Crafty/Crafty+ by Storz & Bickel

I asked S&B through email when the Android app was gonna updated on january 5 and they replied 3 days after. And I can confirm the updated Android app is working with Android 5.0.1 on a Nexus 7 2013, the time to connect to the crafty is less then it was with the old version and Android 4.4, no more dual-booting

Also i was trying to get a clear headed high like with my MFLB, with lower temps (170~178C) i get bether results. With indica's i boost the temp to 195C.

Holy Shit! Worst Crafty scare of my life!

I'm heading into the bathroom to vape with a hoodie on, my Crafty is in there, falls into the fucking toilet! At first, I first thought it was my phone, instantly I saw it was my Crafty and I plunged my hand directly into the toilet water no hesitation whatsoever! lol

Completely Submerged.

I pull it out, it's waterlogged, I'm so panicked I just start shaking the unit, water is coming out a few drops at a time, and I'm continuing to shake this thing vigorously! I can hear water sloshing around inside.

I was so alarmed, I should have just popped the inside bowl screen right away, that's your best bet as far as draining water out of this thing GOD forbid.

My heart is racing, I'm running to the old man's shop and looking for a hex key to open the case. That's got to be the fastest way to see where the water is right?

"No, don't do that you idiot, I know you were dying to vape tonight, but if you turn those screws Storz might void your warranty "Fuck!!"

I gotta do what's right and just keep trying everything QUICKLY to save it.

Pop it into my food dehydrator. Heat and Wind.

Decide to make a paper funnel to channel more wind into the case through the bowl.

At this point my mind realizes:

"Duh, you jackass take the fine mesh screen out, AND MAYBE THOSE LITTLE HOLES can drain some fuckin water out Batman"

I take the fine mesh screen out with an X-acto. Continue to use my paper funnel with a blowdryer, keepin hot air flowing into the bowl.....

Depressed as a mofo, I call the lil lady and tell her what happened.

"Rick, whatever you do; don't try to turn it on tonight, let it fully dry out, worst case we'll send it in and get it fixed" Ok, she's right........

I noticed the unit felt about half of what it felt (in my hand) when I pulled it out of the toilet. All of the water was seemingly gone, even the most vigorous shaking wasn't rattling any more water droplets out; and the floodgates were open with the fine screen now out.

"Dude this thing just fell into a fucking toilet you gotta sanitize the FUCK out of this unit." I popped it back into the dehydrator, ran down to the grocery store for some high strength ISO alcohol."

Come back, Crafty lights up. I did a prolonged "burnout" at maximum temperatures, I swabbed the hell out of every single piece of this vape, then ran extremely hot water multiple times to rinse everything.

Dried it out. Chugged a Christmas Ale. Loaded in the NYC Diesel. Blazed out and so relaxed now; so lucky! I have some tools and appliances (maybe not as much as tdub) that saved my baby, but I have some gadgets that resuscitated this beast.

.....all of this happened IN 15 MINUTES! I was Panicked like a mo-fo! I was going a mile a minute.

I definitely needed something to take the edge off. Mission accomplished. Damn that was stressful and scary. I needed something to take that edge off.

I know this would probably have taken a lot of willpower, but it would have been a Good Thing to soak the thing entirely in ISO or Everclear. Alcohol is hygroscopic so it absorbs the water. In fact, it is used in labs to remove the last traces of water from equipment.

A dunk in fresh water won't do permanent harm to modern electronics provided that you don't apply power before everything is dry. Sea water is a different story because of the deposits left behind when it evaporates, so an alcohol bath gives you a better chance.

...like nuking the Alien planet from orbit would have been the only way to be sure, I agree with pakalolo.
You should drench that thing in 91 or 99 Iso to make sure it is completely sanitized..."It's the only way to be sure"!

Not worth what "extras" your vape might give you...

Does anyone know if it is okay to use the Crafty without the screen in the cooling unit ? I use the liquid pad all the time now and don't grind my herb too fine. Cleaned the mouthpiece after I noticed an increase in draw resistance, what a mess after a week of not cleaning it .

Expect cool not make much sense, since when hot material expands, it should be easier to fit than when he retracted this, or am I wrong?

I think its best to let the unit cool down for a couple of minutes before attaching the mouth piece again after using the crafty. I notice it feels a bit tight when i try to put it back on straight after using it. Iv not had any problems with the app either everything works smoothly every time on my device. My biggest problem with the crafty is that i use it so much its being treated like a desktop vape lol. I really dont think it was meant to be designed for this purpose, the mighty is better for regular home use. The crafty is more suited for a sneaky vape on the go.

Can alcohol in any way react with the electronics?

I was/am a little worried about how sanitary it might be. I was just thinking 212F is the temperature of boiling water, that usually sanitizes. I did the burnout at 410F.

I'm no expert, so by all means I'm looking forward to your responses.

I would feel a lot more comfortable if it was completely sanitized in ISO, just real worried about intentionally plunging my Crafty back into liquid.

If you're not comfortable that it's clean enough, an alcohol soak should be okay provided you turn it off first and wait until the alcohol has evaporated before you turn it on. I accept no responsibility for what happens when you follow the advice of some stoner on the interweb.

I have a friend who sells industrial antimicrobials. She said their tests show that a toilet with fresh water is clean enough to eat out of...so, unless you left a deposit ahead of time, tuck in!

OK, not really. The tests just showed that a toilet with fresh water isn't the dirtiest place in your bathroom. You might want to follow the advice of @pakalolo.

On an unrelated note...flew across country for one night in the Bellevue area. Seattle is not yet making it easy to figure out the recreational goodies situation.

Damn just ordered from them yesterday for the batterry pack, looks good will order that in my next order.

@Mangos word I was just placing an order for o-rings and noticed it!

Still no Crafty - despite any shred of optimism I had, my original estimates were true, and it will be a total of at least 2 weeks before I get my vaporizer back.

I have yet to be able to talk to anyone on the phone, as their phone line is never operating (I get a message stating that the line is busy every time - there appears to be no way to queue). I pleaded with the S&B representative via e-mail before my package arrived to see if they could expedite shipping so I could receive it before this long weekend, but only received a response tonight, claiming that they already shipped out the replacement and that they can no longer modify their shipping speed (which I assume is ground). They didn't give me a tracking number or anything. I also asked in another e-mail if cross-shipping would be available, but they responded without answering my question.

I'm actually pretty astounded - in the past, I have had nothing but excellent customer support. I am honestly thinking about selling my replacement vape while it is mint and getting another vape. I love the Crafty like nothing else, but if I'm gonna be out of a vaporizer for a 2 weeks after using it for 8 weeks, it's just not worth it at all.

So I went to charge my crafty tonight and when I plugged it in it just blinks green a few times and goes blank. No love in the manual on sporadic green blinks so I'm really not sure what's going on.

Anyone run into this problem?

I've had a similar experience if I plug it in too soon after use. Like it has a sensor that cuts the battery out until it cools down. Leaving it plugged in a few minutes later the blue charging light started flashing and it started charging.

The weird thing that happens to me is that towards the end of a longer session my App will flash a message saying the battery is too cold and I should allow it to heat up. Mind you this is at the end of a session when the battery has to be at its warmest. But it hasn't done anything to interfere with its functioning or charging.

My app has been saying it is too hot after a 20 min session on the default temp. Not having the Cold thing that is odd as you said. But still feel like they had a one min auto shut off on this thing for a reason. Still an amazing device.

I am on the same boat. I sent in my Crafty for repair last week, emailed and called them today...got nothing useful on ETA, just wanted me to be more patient..still in queue to be serviced. I am slowly dusting off my old vapes one by one as I wait for my Crafty to be back. Honestly, I have had way better service from Ploom, INH, Pinnacle before and they are about half the price!

What doesn't sound legit at all though is the description…

But has anyone else noticed you can store ABV 'on the go' in the base of the filling tool.

This is extremely handy for me and saves me carrying an additional container when I'm out and about.

fyi, It can hold the same amount of ABV as the top section can hold NBV.

I reckon 20 mins is to long for the crafty. I think The Mighty would be better for a longer session, the crafty I believe is designed for a quick 5-10 min session while on the go or in situations where you need to be discreet.

I am really glad I purchased the mighty, because these two animals need full batteries to work optimally (just my opinion) and I like longer sessions. It seems like a lot more problems in the crafty thread than the mighty thread. When you add even one more variable (app on phone) that relies on a third party (your smartphone), it's just one more area you can have problems.
