I like @capcoho 's Idea of picking up something cheaper and leave it behind when you head home.

I always think of vapes like the vapor genie classic or coil where you only need carry a lighter or two with you instead of a charger and batteries for simplicity while traveling.

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too
I used to take my iOlite to Amsterdam with a new chamber and stem.

Then just bin the stem at the Airport on way home.

Next visit there will be with my Crafty.......

I have a similar scenario which has been rolling around my mind for the past few months.

One of my acquaintances has a family villa overlooking the Caribbean on St. Lucia (beautiful open-construction St Lucian old-style design) - gorgeous place on a cliff, no neighbors within eyesight, secluded beach...... In a word, paradise. And the best part is they rent it out for cheap (airfare is the biggest per-person expense).

Better yet, the land's caretaker smokes more in a day than I could in a MONTH  He hooked me UP the last time I went. Rolled these massive fatties.

Anyway my wife & I fell in love with the place and the people/culture/food. We plan to visit it many more times in the near future. However, I have since fucked combustion.

I have personally come to the conclusion any vaporizer I bring will need to be brand new / unused (I like to be extra careful). Additionally I've come to the conclusion that it will not be coming back with me. Moreover, I know I probably can't bring butane with me, so I'll be limited with butane powered vapes - any butane down there would probably be low quality Ronson stuff

The four vapes I currently have on my list (in order of likelyhood to buy) are:

1) Flowermate - great vape for the price, would be most likely to work for my needs, and nice gift for one of the house's staff at the end of the week. Charging is no problem - there are 110V outlets in the villa
2) Vaporgenie - Simple, low-cost, works with standard lighter (supposedly, but I have never used one, probably would need to bring a preloaded torch lighter just in case)

3 (Tie) - Lotus - very powerful vape, fun to use, but requires a LOT of butane and a torch lighter - would need to find a torch that could last a whole week prefilled with high quality butane
3 (Tie) - Vapman - Again another popular vape for the price, but would require a LOT of butane

I am also interested in the Chalice vape which was invented on Jamacia (and powered by coconut charcoal) - you could find one of those perhaps (though it's a bit huge and awkward - CERTAINLY not stealth by any means!)

I have also been thinking about edibles. Since I do have access to the house kitchen and basically an infinite amount of average quality Caribbean Ganja (seedy, sparse stemmy herb - nothing like america's finest). My only problem is time - I need to find a recipe I can prepare in the first 24 hours on the island (Edibles are still quite new to me)

My bud brought the Solo to "One happy island "every year he leave the Stems behind and the solo always makes it home.
Just clean bowl before you leave.
every year. Tattoos and all.
Before the Solo it was the No2.
Ten years and not one problem packed in luggage
Not carry on.
Puts the solo with toiletries.
Also brings a half lb or more.and only comes home with vape.
Or just gift to a friend there.

I'd personally get a Coil, its only a 35 dollar investment and you may end up liking the usage more than the Solo, also very discrete and discreet while being entirely cleanable. If you can take a Solo, why can't you clean the stems and take them?

2 years ago I was in Jamaica and MJ still wasn't legal. I was asked multiple times by taxi drivers, folks on the street, etc. if I wanted to buy some and none of them seemed worried. They even had a tour you could book called 'The Bob Marley Experience' where they promised/alluded to taking you into the mountains and allowing you to experience the Jamaican way of life 'in all aspects'. Never went on the tour though.

I think Jamaica may have decriminalized up to 2 ounces last year but I'm not sure.

It's not worth taking a chance that you'll be caught by the airline by bringing your own MJ when you can easily score at your destination. Jamaican MJ is good and cheap so you'll save money there ... why not spend the savings on a throw-away vape?

I agree with others who have said you should purchase a cheap vape for the trip and leave it behind.

Bump! New to the forum, 1st post. This is a question near and dear to me. Been traveling to the island for many years and want to FC on the next visit. Waiting for my FF2 to arrive, which seems constructed in such a way it may be pretty thoroughly cleaned. I won't know until I start using it, but I am thinking about taking it. I am worried about the random searches when you leave the island, those Jamaican 'TSA' are no freakin TSA, the women are especially tough. I'd never try to bring herb back, but they could really hold you up searching through everything.. the worst would be having the vape confiscated as happened with a torch lighter I had that US TSA recently confiscated in route to Colorado.

The reason your torch lighter was confiscated is because they are on the TSA banned items list, not because they thought it was drug related. Personally, I'd rather bring a cheap disposable vape and have 'no worries mon'.

Vaporizers are not illegal, at least in the States. Just as glass bongs are not illegal. I met a woman who flies with huge, clean, glass bongs as carry-ons: she owns a head shop.
A vaporizer can initiate a further, closer search of your belongings, but if you are not transporting anything illegal, they won't find anything. Let them search.

I agree the Ascent if you've used it a while would be hard to get rid of smells. It's the stinkiest of all my portables.

I would suggest buying a new vaporizer, don't use it. Keep it in the original box and pack it in your carry on bag. You can give it away before you leave. Get something inexpensive like a Flowermate. Turn it on before you leave to make sure that it works.

I just checked out Last Call on Puffitup. It's vaporizers that are refurbished that you can get good deals on. Almost brand new vaporizers. Randy had some Flowermates really cheap. I bought a Solo for $55. a couple years ago and it's still working.

I wouldn't ever chance bringing cannabis even in a legal state on a plane.

Was in Jamaica last fall. Did as several people have already suggested above, and took a new flowermate. Forget the exact model number, but it looked pretty much like a little batt pack. Did a great job while I was there (tho meds don't vape as well as what I get in US - they grow to smoke fatties all day!). Don't think the flowermate itself is illegal down there (and know it isn't really up here - it's for tobacco and lavender, right?), but if it is dirty it will be!

I gifted it to my favorite bartender before we left. I had showed it to him and how to use it earlier in the week. It cost about $80, and kind of sucked to leave a nearly new vape behind. But, was very glad I did when I saw how security/TSA is in Jamaica. They don't play. Would it have made it home in my checked bag if I cleaned it very well? Probably. But, not worth the risk or the worry. As it turned out, because of plane issues I was at the airport for hours (and had to stay overnight to wait for a different plane to fly out). My shit went through their "customs" at least twice. With the random way they search, I'm guessing it was dog-sniffed at least a few more times while I was sitting and waiting.

I watched a young couple get pinched in the airport concourse just before their flight left. Not sure what happened to them after they were led off, but was glad I didn't get to find out first hand. Think I describe in much more detail in the vapes on plane thread, but basically they just wander around with little dogs. When your flight is ready to board, they just cut the dog loose to meander through the clusterfuck at the gate. I saw the same guys with the dogs in other areas (and heading out to or back from tarmac), but not sure of how else they sniff.

Strongly suggest you get one to leave there or take a few packs of papers and suffer through combustion.

On buying down there..... bicker and barter like crazy, and know that they have better than what they first show you (and usually the second stuff). Be picky, and never put yourself in a situation where you order it and they go get it. Not that you would even give them money first, but you'll do a lot better if the nugs are right there in front of you. And, if you're buying pretty much in the open - as you usually will be - take your time. When another seller pops up you'll be surprised what quality comes out and how fast prices drop! Let them bicker amongst themselves while trying to get your business, and then go a little lower from there. And, don't feel guilty no matter what they say. You are just another mark to them and they will make plenty of money on the next guy who probably isn't as street smart as you. And, have no worries. There will be plenty to choose from. The first guy that talked me up caught me in the airport while waiting for my luggage to come out.

Don't entertain offers in the airport. That's my only suggestion. :peace::2c:

Enjoy!

Hell to the no!! Too much security around, and from what I found you can do much better with quality and cost elsewhere. If you happen to be heading up to Nine Mile (Bob Marley Mausoleum), try to hold out until you get there - or only buy what you'll need before then. For Caucasian tourists, this seems to be the place for the best deals if you know how to haggle - both in quality and price. Well - compared to the north and west sides of the island where all the resorts are, anyway. Don't really know about Kingston or other places way out in the bush. The guys that stroll the resort beaches can set you up pretty well, too. But, you want to take a little time to play with them - or even chat them up one time and catch them the next for purchase. If you're at an all inclusive, snag a few of those beers or airplane bottles from your room fridge. They work out well for bartering for me, just don't let resort security see you.

Both on the beach and at Nine Mile were where it paid to go slow and wait for someone else to swoop in and try to take your business. Who knows? They may know each other and this is part of their game. But, I feel like I did pretty well. I probably could have even gone a bit cheaper if I really pushed. But, at the end of any deal I made - no matter how small - I hung out and turned them on to the vape while they smoked spliffs. Everyone was happy. Yeah, they may have been chuckling at the fact that they got me to pay $10 US for a scrimpy 1/8th, but I was happy too! I found better prices than on the street in California, and way cheaper than dispensaries in Denver. Of course the quality was no where near the same and YMMV.

One other thing you may want to know - especially if you just decide to go the combustion route. Spliffs are pretty much for one person to Jamaican stoners. No passing!!! Bowls get refilled, then passed to the next person. I did the vape the same, and no one was offended. One load per person, and don't rush anybody! Actually, don't try to rush anyone at all on the island. Just chill and be chill. Kind of hard to do at first if you're not used to it, but a good idea to get into island mode as soon as you can and stay there until you get back on the plane. "No problem, mon" works best as a 2 way street, if you know what I mean.

Vapes like the Solo/Air/Crafty/Mighty/etc that get dirty only in the stem/cooling unit work well, because you can just buy a brand new stem/cooling unit for the trip, keep it clean until you get there, use it on the trip, and then throw it away while you are there.

Thanks all for the feedback. As far as acquiring herbs in Jamaica, I totally have that covered. After more than 10 years going down there I'm totally connected and most of the time pay nothing for it. Typically I have a nice assortment. Last year I got some of it mixed up and had to get other guests to help me test to see if what I had rolled was wheelchair weed or the happy stuff

I probably wouldn't risk the FF2; it's too expensive to take a chance with, IMO. I might go with a Vapor Genie Classic or Glass Bat, or maybe a Vapman or VapCap. No worries about batteries, chargers or plugging in. All you need is a reliable lighter.
