Ok, so we a have a Fuck You thread. Seems to be pretty popular here, so I thought I'd follow that up with.........A Stupid Shit thread. It's kinda like the Fuck You thread but rather than expressing anger and frustration, this one is more of a "What the........?" kind of thread.

You need to understand that there are Quranic prohibitions against the representation (drawings or statues of any kind) of ANY Living creature that were put in place to fight the Idol worship that was present in the Levant and Orient in the 700's AD.

Why Is It now Ok to belittle peoples faith in the name of free speech, these "cartoons" are flat out fucking offensive to a Billion or more people so I say FUCK brainless fuckin' satirist who have to keep publishing this stupid trash. They should expect to have a fatwa calling for their death if they are Dumb enough to publish this purely offensive Crap for no reason but shits, giggles and profits from a small group of regular readers while offending a billion or more others.

As for the snow men or sacred groves or rocks or Drawings or statues or even t-shirts with pop stars images, they all break rules allied to the fundamentals of Tawheed that are a foundation of Islamic law and basic belief. Just as Iconoclasm was a foundation of the protestant reformation that shaped our present western thought so it was in Arabia at the time of the birth of Islam.

Why is it oK for these A'Hole low life cartoonists to offend a whole people groups sensibility? I think they should expect backlash and death threats since their only purpose is to offend. They're fucking asking for it in my opinion(they know it's going to happen) and They damn sure don't get my respect or sympathy since they show so little of either for others.

First off, there is nothing in the Quran that prohibits drawings or statues of any kind. These prohibitions are stated in supplemental teachings.

Secondly, they were put forth, as you stated above, in the 700AD's. A few years have passed since then, eh. Hell, would you also have respect for those who literally followed biblical law from the first testament if they also practiced those laws to the letter today?

Those French cartoonists make satire of EVERYTHING and EVERYONE, from Jews to Christians to Buddhists to the Islamic faith. They're an equal opportunity offender. That's what they do and they've been doing it for years. Kinda like the French version of South Park. Since when did political humor not offend? By it's very design, it's meant to offend.

The bigger question is, what is the appropriate response to being offended? Do you just not say anything? Do you publicly state that you are offended? Do you counter with some offending material of your own? Do you hold a rally? Do you put your outrage in print? Or..............do you issue death threats and then carry out those threats.

Just because you're offended does not give you the right to issue death threats, let alone followthrough with those threats.

2) History and tradition isn't forgotten and recreated all around the world in every society and culture as it is Here in Ours, When Christianity was 1436 years old things weren't pretty with the bloodshed and hatred among Christians.

Why is it ok for others to dictate what is "ok" and what isn't? Everything will offend somebody somewhere. Religion as a whole offends me, but I accept a persons beliefs as their right. Just because I choose to be offended, doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to express their views.

I totally agree with you in regards to the blood that was shed in the name of Christ with not only the Crusades but Inquisitions as well, but that was a long time ago. It seems like almost all religions go through this, but some, in some religions, are still stuck in the past.

I'm not quite sure where this should go though. I love debating stuff like this. Opens me up to different perspectives and such but it can also lead to a lot of disharmony, so yeah, we should probably both step away from this, eh?

Sounds as absurb to me as an Eskimo pissed off about all the problems associated with coconut palm trees.

Reminds of of my current favorite proverb: "Not my monkeys. Not my circus."

I like to say this when I simply don't give a shit about fixing the problem someone else should have had the foresight to prevent in the first place.

From the link I posted up: Snow has covered upland areas of Tabuk province near Saudi Arabia's border with Jordan for the third consecutive year as cold weather swept across the Middle East.

I think that is what prompted this.

Here's a quote that just boggles my mind though, "Sheikh Munajjid had some supporters, however. "It (building snowmen) is imitating the infidels, it promotes lustiness and eroticism," one wrote.

I never once saw a snowman that was lustfully erotic. How can a snowman possibly promote those feelings? I don't get it, but then, there are some who have some very strange fetishes out there.

Listen, I'm Jewish and jokes about Jews are pretty widespread and when I hear someone tell them, especially if it's painting my religion in a bad light, I do get offended, but what do I do with that feeling? I walk the fuck away so I don't have to hear it anymore, thinking to myself, "Fucking ignorant assholes.", but realizing full well that those that are telling the jokes and laughing at those jokes have every right to do so.

Edit: And please guys, let's not let any of the discussion here get personal and nasty. As long as we can keep that lid on it, FC should be ok with it.

I do believe in respecting others, and find ethnic jokes despicable personally. But whether something is offensive or not is purely subjective. I do not believe in censorship though. At all. The only form of censorship I can get on board with, is if the recipient of content, has no way of getting away from it.

No @lwien. drawing from your Own life experience for the sake of comedy is quite different in my opinion then just making fun of those who are different than you culturally that you put down and demean for laughs (you know like those Polack and jew jokes) and to make yourself feel all superior and all.

I totally agree with Iwien. I'm french, and I couldn't be so eloquent as english is not my native language. I will make a try however:
Make satire of everything and everyone is the spirit of this newspaper, it's true. I was really laughing at some cartoons , or not, sometimes... But put some derision in the news, laughing for free is good in our brave old world! Laughing from serious things,from the revolting things .

Imo, being offensive with people is not the primary goal of Charlie Hebdo. It's not a trash press.

I guess I'm kind of ambivalent over the matter. On one hand it seems like a kind of pointless provocation that got the reaction everyone sort of expected. But on the other, that doesn't give anyone the right to kill over it.

I also wonder if perhaps we tend to pick and choose whose acceptable to ridicule and portray as racially stereotypical cartoon characters. Would it be acceptable to portray minorities in cariacture? I don't know, maybe Charlie Hebdo does. Hustler does without regard to sensitivities...I know this because I read it for the journalistic content, but they don't publish that on the front cover and it's not displayed on plain sight.....just sayin'

Anyway, we live in a world where everyone seems to be less and less reasonable and a way too easily butthurt.

All religion is fair game to be made fun of. It's freedom of speech unless you live in North Korea, Russia or a number of countries where a person's rights are trampled on.

What I think is stupid shit is getting a bunch of piercings in weird places on your body. But that too is freedom that we enjoy. It's your body you should be able to do what you want. I don't think it should be taken away. I grew up in a different era. I really do try to be open minded. Some of this is pretty stupid shit.
