Remember messing around with this idea....

To all enthusiast Photo-sketchers out there: I have done a couple of stuff with @blankrider which is quite good fun. If YOU also enjoy messing around with Photoshop or other soft and like the challenge of putting glass together, why don't you come and join the fun. Also do not hesitate to to copy what is already started and improve on it. (Just wanted to be clear and transparent about the fact that I'm doing it to help the thread and have No monopoly on any of it) :peace:
Yep, that's the one I was gonna be tinkering around with :)

My new laptop just came with photoshop elements so I might be able to do something with that, otherwise I'll just keep using me paint :)

In reality I'm working with [USER=13450]@oli
on an actual FC-186 if anyone is interested. It will not be straight neck. This is prototype number 1

It would be interesting to work out a size for this new Stereo matrix.

Size of can from ground
Original Stereo Matrix = 23 cm
Copy GB-186 = 21 cm
Original Stereo Matrix 65T = 29 cm

In the meanwhile I have added a different mouthpiece plus black accents

Hey all, life has been a bit nuts lately. Glad to see that some stuff is coming together here. Since it looks to function very well and is a design I want to try I will be gladly snagging an FC-710, I put my order in already just need to fight with my bank a little and get the payment sent off.

I would like to take a second and once again ask why the new 242 became a can perc chamber? Was it for ease of photo-shopping or ease of manufacturing the female GonG instead of the male on the original? Perhaps it was discussed and I just missed it due to the politics of the other thread.

At any rate I feel like the can shape is actually quite a bit of a step in the wrong direction here as it increased the amount of free glass space in the perc chamber. Thus there will be a bit more bubble popping and a slightly less flavor. Assuming the prototype #2 is water filled to a functional level, just look how much more free glass that has in the per chamber compared to the original.
freeproto2.jpg

Sorry the red lines are different thickness, the base images were different resolutions.

The current mouthpiece comes directly out of the center of the vortex chamber. I don't really like that, and here is my proposed change to allow you to see the vortex in action while hitting it yourself. This will also mean the vapor spends a little longer in the chamber and thus slightly smoother hits also, win/win.
Here is how it is on the original 242:
100_6803.jpg

Here is the mouthpiece exiting the vortex chamber on my large rig which I would like to see get ported over to the new 242:
100_6812.jpg

Again but cleaner and with a little highlighting on the indents which help guide the vortex and eliminate splash-back:
rpath.jpg

Drawing of the proposed uptake tube paths needed to accommodate this mouthpiece change:
100_6817.jpg

I kinda drew that left one going out farther than needed, use your imagination to tighten it up a tad.

Also while we are at it :p steven managed to get a moving peice of glass inside of another one in the FC-710 think he's up to this challenge?

Tho besides the cool factor I really can't say that seems highly functional. I'd buy one tho if they were in china glass price range.
Edit: after watching the video another time I decided 10/10 cool. I would buy that even if i knew it hit mediocre but we got that made at a reasonable price. (shudders to think how many will die in shipping from china)

Also check out PB's newest prototype with the propeller perc series, Here.

1 - Those uptakes look odd to me, They each attach to the funnel about 180 degrees away from where I'd think they should go... The GB-242 looks like its got them pretty perfect.
Your design just doesn't have a symmetrical look to me, which is a bit of a turn off...
2 - I like and agree with the mouthpiece/funnel change, My delta-9 recycler has that same sorta setup.
3(a) - The propeller perc was briefly brought up in the other thread, I believe @blankrider said it was above their skill range ATM...
I'd LOVE to have one... I think the real ones are in the $600 range ATM? I'd pretty happily drop $300ish on an american made one (I struggle to drop any more than $400 on any piece of glass)
Hell yessss though, I want one of those in my arsenal...
3(b) - Sweet baby jesus those dabs in that video were INSANE.

Yeah I was trying to find a way to keep the nice pretty symmetricality the original has, but I couldn't think of a good arrangement and wanted to get an image of the idea up so you guys could see the idea a bit more clearly. Please suggest away if we can get that MP design popped onto a more pretty and symmetrical setup.

PB propeller perc pricing here, cheapest one is $550.

Yeah, the most I've spent on any glass is american made by a local person, $205 was what I payed and it's to date the most I've spent on 1 glass item. Tho I really have been considering seeing if LeafyGreen would be willing to make me a custom rig and collab with someone who could help him make a killer vortex recycler, I just really like his ascetic work.

Also the dabs in that video were ice wax patties, which are generally less harsh to take big dabs of.

Ok, you guys have me thinking about glass hookahs now. And the more I think, the more I love the idea. I wouldn't want a huge, full-size one, but ideally some perfect middle size where it could function as a small but legit hookah if I wanted it too, but otherwise could have a vape plugged in and serve as a large but equally-legit tabletop bubbler.

I also really, like the design aesthetic of the tank-style glass hookahs, like this one that @BoogerMan suggested:
D9ED1BCA-9870-49C4-A07C-CD944A4B1D4D_zpsjkxxas4u.jpg

They're unique and cool looking, have room for lots of water, look very stable especially with multiple hoses attached, and wouldn't be hard to manufacture.

I also searched around a bit and found few other, similar styled tank hookahs to use as food for thought.

So what do you guys think about this style? We would have a lot of room to work with creatively, as we could really play around with shape, design, perc style and hose/bowl/mouthpiece placement. An inline perc could be awesome, or... sky's the limit.. I know that I for one would love to have something like this as part of my collection. Anyone else??

I like the style if only because 99% of hookah's look the same and are easy to tip over. Group dabs would be fun too.

The sideways orientation is appealing and something I've never really considered before. I've been using a jhan sidecar, which is great, but I've been keeping an eye out for something that's a little easier to pack away. I've really liked the idea of a removable mouthpiece for that purpose, but something like this with the added advantage of having no wide base takes it a step further. I suppose I'd be more interested in something smaller with just one output, but I'd still take a serious look if dhgate offers something like what's posted above. Nice find!

I agree with @snackmaster. I like the idea of a desktop hookah being used as a solo bubbler, meaning one person at a time. Personally, it doesn't matter to me if it stands up can-style or is laid over tank-style, as long as it's not too big and designed for the single user.

You can have two outputs and just use a stopper on the other one when you're solo.

Got my FC-187 today. Woohoo! BUT. The perc is pretty high up in the can. At least 1 cm. if I put the water level 1/8" above the perc, I get water in the MP. I like the look better than my deceased GB-187. The MP is much less wonky. The GB has a bigger base too 4 3/4". Vs 4 3/8" on the FC. Otherwise very clean. Excellent double box packaging with plenty of bubbles inside.

Okay, I'm getting really excited about this idea. I've got an image of an amazing looking bubbler in my head that I would love to see become a reality. I personally don't have any real interest in using it as a hookah, (@cybrguy) although I have many friends who would jump on the idea. What I'm stoked about is something big and wide with a low center of gravity, that would theoretically be stable enough to park next to me on my couch and vape through without having to lift anything to my mouth. I'd primarily use it as a one person bubbler myself, (@snackmaster and @hd_rider) but I could see the two hose option, if it works well enough, becoming a regular thing with my girlfriend. I also love the idea of having a horizontal glass cylinder amongst my collection of vertical cylinders, while fulfilling my need for a whip mouthpiece-style bub. Also the option of group dabs, as @Monsoon said, would be the shit.

Given the nature of the design it would also be super easy to transport (nothing breakable sticking off, essentially just a glass cylinder) and, with multiple connection points for hoses (even just two would do the trick), you'd have a lot of versatility regarding configuration. You could have one hose or two, and the option of using a hookah-style check valve if you want depending on your setup, choice of length of hose, and choice of mouthpieces on the end.

It would be great with an inline perc. Essentially the whole thing would be just a large inline chamber with legs with a perc running along the bottom and attachments on the top. I have zero photoshop skills, but I drew up a picture on my computer to try to illustrate what's in my head, and realized 20 minutes in to it I would have been better off drawing it on paper and taking a picture. Whatever, though, it's done, so here it is. Perhaps one of you with magical image-manipulation powers could take a whack at it at some point if the idea takes off....

I'm essentially thinking something that looks roughly like this but smaller:
1418913780Middle-Tank-Side-home-page.jpg

I imagine it about 10 to 12 inches across, with the needed open chamber underneath the inlet joint and a long inline perc running along the bottom of the tank. Like so:

QLlU8BT.jpg

So .... Do you guys think this would be as awesome as I do?

This hookah type piece isn't my bag but as soon as I saw that big barrel with a lil showerhead in it I was confused.

Sorta seems to defeat the point of having that massive area for water if you're just gonna use a simple small perc in there.

A big long inline like you just posted seemed like the most logical perc Setup to me.

I ordered last week on Friday and had no expectation of shipping that late in the week. I still have no tracking for the 710 though. Maybe they aren't ready yet? I sent him a separate message about doing a function test, and he has replied saying don't worry it.

From what I understand, Steven works for the company that manufacturers the glass. Then they ship the inventory to a shipping company in the city.

I bet part of the issue with shipping is because it's not coming directly from Steven. Any communication with him requires he contact the distribution center to find an answer. He probably isn't responding because "I don't know" usually isn't the answer customers want.

I am still on the fence about Steven, but not because of his shipping and response times, but how he handles broken/defective orders. Most other legitimate vendors I've worked with in china typically request photographic proof of defect, and then they refund your money. Steven seems to prefer you send him MORE money before he will replace the defective item

Still closely watching this thread as I'll most likely be ordering a lefty FC187v2 when it's released

As far as shipping goes bet way to do it is not even worry about it. Worrying and all that other stuff will just make it worse. It will come.... eventually. Order it and forget about it.

I got my FC-187 last night as well. It is very well made and it's only serious flaw is the perc being too high as @DieHard mentioned above. It's other issue is the sidecar connection of the MP is somewhat restricted, but that is hard to avoid when connecting two cylindrical surfaces. It is manageable and I am satisfied with the piece. While in principle I love the thicker glass, in actuality I think the weight will make it a little burdensome as I tend to hold my glass while hitting it. The Dewar is all but perfect this time.

I had hoped the sidecar would give me a better view in the can, and it IS better, but not much. The weight would make it a good idea to always hold it by the can rather than picking it up by the MP which I often do with my D022. All in this will be in my rotation, but will not knock the D022 off the top.

And I'm not sure I can recommend going with glass this thick on future pieces as it does get quite heavy. Maybe I'm just getting old...

Inline definitely fits the form factor better, but I'd prefer a simple shower head that I know is gonna work even if it looks a little silly. (Not surprisingly) It kinda seems like there's not a lot of demand for such a piece though

This one doesn't hold ice but gives you an idea of what it could look like. Having standard joints all over gives you a lot of options for how to use it.

why is the above NOT a recycler?! its got the shape... and would function perfect for either person [with a finger on the hose] or together.... so why the fuck is that not a recycler!

just had to comment on that. sorry, continue on.
