yeah that is what i am guessing also.
I had similar issues with my Alfa not producing much vapour and also a couple strange glitches where it seems to loose battery quite suddenly.
Not experienced any since I gave it a full charge and let the battery run out all the way from being on 'Hi'
Quite a big fan of this vape, started with MFLB, moved onto a PnP which I thought was a horrible piece of equipment and returned it for my Alfa.
I find the Automatic temperature settings to be utterly useless, as well as the 'Low' heat settings. I start on Medium to enjoy the flavour and move onto Hi near the end of my session. I always vape my herb quite dark and find that a fine, but not too fine grind and tight pack gets me really quite feeling the effects. Get a good amount of draws, herb is always evenly heated.
Flavour isn't amazing, but it's definitely there for the first few draws and I haven't noticed it tasting 'bad' at any point. Nor have I found any issue with the herb being burned, even after vaping one bowl for 20minutes. Bowl could be bigger, but its not at all prohibitively small.
Pros:
-Good battery life (Nowhere near as long as advertised, more like 45-55 minutes for my own use. But still great)
-Extremely stealthy, palm sized and can easily be passed off as an Ecig
-Herb is cooked very evenly
-Once practiced, clouds can be very very large and I find on some occasions the Alfa produces too much vapour and i'll turn it off midway through a session as i'm having to take constant draws in order to prevent waste!
-Very durable
- 2 year warranty
Cons:
-Unit is very smelly even when not in use and I need to keep it in an airtight jar to prevent smell buildup (I'm sure with better cleaning it would be fine though)
-Pipe cleaners it comes with are fairly terrible to clean it with, I recommend removing the wool from a Q tip
-Mouthpieces are easy to loose if removing for cleaning or otherwise, i'm really clumsy tho. Have spoken with Ciaran (the CEO) and he said replacements will be available ''Soon'' So i'm just gonna have to use it without mouthpiece for now.
-Takes ages to charge (Although can be used after a short time on charge)
Overall, really great piece of kit. I'd give it around a 7.5 or an 8 out of 10.

Well i spoke to gotvape and they will not take the unit back , bummer but on the bright side they said they will fix it for me so i will def be sending it back shortly. Here's to hoping it works just as good as some of you say and the above poster def has me excited to get a working unit.

Wondering if anyone has had any response from Goboof yet?
I have one of their early units prior to the ones requiring software update. Until now, there has been no trouble... this past week tho I have noticed the unit beginning to act up. I am noticing inconsistencies in low/med/hi settings. It is almost as if the unit cannot sense how hot it is... for example turn on to low, green led blinks like normal and then goes solid. Turn unit off and then back on to low and the heating cycle begins all over again...blinking green led for 25 seconds and then solid. By this point the chamber has had 2 "low" heat cycles and has blackened anything loaded. I would have expected turning it on the second time, the unit would have sensed that it is heated sufficiently and start off solid green... Wondering if @Mike M can see if his unit acts similarly? I believe we have the same "generation" of Alfa.
In addition, the control wheel has become loose to the point that it is not safe to leave in a coat pocket for fear of turning on. This has happened twice now. To top it all off, the unit will only charge to full capacity (red LED changing to green) while standing upright. Charging while lying on its side will never complete...the LED begins red but when I return to check on it has turned off.
I would like to talk to Goboof about it but still no email responses.
If I had the correct screw driver to dismantle I would attempt fixing myself...what good is a 2 year warranty if you cannot get in touch with the company...

if you decide not to send it back, the following hacks will help a little. For the charging issues put a rubber band around the unit securing the charger in place to the unit. Solid charge every time. The loose wherl can be solved by wrapping some dental floss around the base of the knob and using a safety pin to tuck it away. Hope this helps. My elevape sv will be here in a couple hours so I will be doing a comparison later or tomorrow for those that are interested.

I got to vape about 2g's out of the SV before I managed to bust the heating coil (I'll have new ones on Tuesday). The Alfa is stealthier for blatant public use because of its size only and at hi temp I like the taste on the Alfa better. I also like the Alfa oven size more. Its the perfect size for me to get medicated. The SV has a much better build quality and at low temps the vapor taste amazing and is so cool is doesn't even feel like I'm getting a draw and then I blow a huge cloud with no cough. The Alfa has no learning curve and anyone can use it, not so much with SV, my friend and I both combusted. The SV is not pants pocket friendly for me personally, but the unit doesn't smell and I love the fact I can hit it once and put it away. The SV has much better temp control as well. For now, I like the Alfa better because its smaller with better ergonomics, and because I know how to use it.

I started following the suggestions, and I can confirm I totally fell in love with this machine. Loving it.
BUT.
Now something strange is going on. I can turn it on on LOW, and it will keep blinking as it didn't reach the temperature. The truth is that not only it does reach it, but I guess it goes over 240º (celsius) because it's actually burning the weed. Let me confirm you that it has the new software.
It seems like it's the opposite problem compared to the old software (it didn't turn on because it thought it was too hot - now it just gets too hot). I will write to vapefiend.co.uk right now, especially cause goboof doesn't seem to answer to mails. I will let you know.

I drilled a hole in the cap the size of the rod, and now it packs perfectly. The blue cap is the perfect size for the bowl, and it even has a lip on it so it can't go completely into the bowl and get stuck.

Cheers man, great tip. I made one last night - great use of $3 to make a much more useful tool.
For folks recreating this, I recommend using a 9/64" bit or wider to make the hole in the cap. 1/8" Seems to be the exact size of the oven pin (or at least very close, it's probably metric), and I found that there wasn't enough clearance between the pin and the edges of the cap hole, causing friction, and getting the cap stuck in the oven.
I went a bit further and added a poker to help clean out the oven. I took a picture hanging nail, which nearly perfectly fit in the hole in the bottom (I widened the hole a touch so the size of the nail wouldn't stress the plastic) and rounded it off with a dremel tool. I trimmed it to 1.8cm in length, which seemed an ideal length to get into the oven and not be too long. I epoxied the nail in from the exterior using a plastic bonding epoxy, and covered the hole of the cap with a bit of tape so I could use it as a storage container.
I cut off a bit of the bottom off a plastic flask funnel I got for free at my local liquor store, which makes it easy to fill the tube. I have yet to use the tube, so I don't know how compatible its volume is with the oven capacity.

I emptied, cleaned throughly, and tried again. This time on medium(just for comparison)and the same exact thing happend. 600+ on SN#
So up to 600 they are still having some bugs.

Exactly the same issue I have regarding charring... @Slow Draw McGraw did you contact goboof regarding this "feature"? If so, could you elaborate on their response? I have one of their early units, original firmware with serial number GA-02077...
It is a conduction vape so the oven gets hot and takes some time to cool down. Keep that in mind.
Even so, it Still should not heat to combustion.

I am having the opposite problem here. Sent my unit back to gotvape bc it barely heats up and when it does it just stops heating randomly. Pretty upset bc i only got to use it 1 time. This is 1 purchase i wish i would have held out on and waited for them to do a revision. Happy to have my Air as a back up .

There are different kinds of hash out there. The alfa is not really made for hash , its a dry herb vaporizer. If its a hash that is sticky or melts down i would advice strongly against putting it in the alfa. If its like a bubble hash which is usually dry you can try breaking some up or grinding it with herb and putting it in there. Some people also sandwich it between there herb and put it in.
