I need to get my hands on some of these Honests again…! I'm gonna need them anyway as my affair with the Coil is evolving!

I had a breakthrough tonight when I tried to remove the ceramic and re-install it cause it seemed a little misplaced and wanted to put it more straight. I decided to do this cause I was charring the load too often, I had very uneven vaping and couldn't control the temps so effectively. I also felt that the draw was way too open and had noticed that the outer coil, at the point where the heat comes in from the lighter, was not tight for a few turns of the spiral and if I closed the top hole with my finger, a lot of air was still coming in, when drawing, from the sides. When I pushed down with my finger though I had almost zero loss…

So I was happy to realize that when I put the top part of the Coil back together (and also saw that the ceramic was still crooked :p, it must be normal I guess due to the spiraling of the coil), the coil had tightened up there and there was no more air coming in from the sides! I guess they had overtightened this at the factory or something and that caused the side openings... The draw got tighter but still much more open than even the Crafty! The temp got lower and didn't fluctuate so suddenly and the baking of the load got much more even without needing to pay much attention to the flame height or distance!!! I can even vape native now and the coil is a joy to use, and tiny!!! Amazing vaporizer for an amazing price! Very pleasantly surprised so far by the little devil! It might even become my daily driver, leaving the Crafty for the sneaky businesses!

VG Coil is officially NF APPROVED!!!

@natural farmer

Glad to hear about your success with the coil :). What type of lighter are you using? Still thinking about getting this. I would like to be able to use it native. I hear most people use a candle flame lighter, and maybe some have had success with a torch. Do I need to invest in a particular lighter to have success with the coil native?

It gets a little harsh native but it's manageable for me although I prefer mating it with my bamboo pipe/steamroller and get super cool hits! It's such a nice pipe combo… :luv:

I am using a cheap knock-off of the cheap Honest torch (!!!) and the more expensive Sleek Honest from the Lotus e-shop cause I hate the butane taste of the candle flamed ones. And I need to pay almost no attention to the flame now! I just put the tip of the flame in the hole and fire it up and draw! It also works fine with candle flames though if you prefer… I just find you have more speed and cleaner taste with the torch. I wonder if the SS Bat does as good of a job as the Coil… Is it bigger in size?

And I just had the most uniform ABV coming out of the Coil!!! WOW!!! It's almost as even as the Crafty's ABV… Just WOW!!! I had it completely wrong all those days… :p

EDIT:

Just had a high-dea and had to share! :ko:

So, the Coil is stealthy enough but what you tell the cop that asks what this is?

Well, you tell him it's a portable water filter!! :science:

So this is how I mate my Coil with my bamboo pipe, with a couple of pieces of silicone tubing and some pressure… Ain't she a looker?

Now, if you separate and stick the wrong end to the wrong hole and also put some of these in that hole…

That bamboo pipe/steamroller looks great. Simple and elegant. Next time I go to the park, I'll have to look out for bamboo. Looks like a great mate to the coil and the lotus especially. The bamboo stem looks so great with the lotus, you or someone could make and sell them especially for the lotus I bet. I would buy one.

I wonder if you could attach it to a banana pipe? Maybe it's too big. Just an idea.

Tried the water filter high-dea the other day but it won't work. The filter is too dense for the water to pass freely. Maybe with a ss screen in its place and carbon filling…

Anyway, the Coil is growing on me day by day. Combined with the bamboo stem it consistently gives me huge, extremely cool, tasty, dense and lung-fillng clouds and so far out of all my vapes and previous ones I believe it's the best tool for me when in privacy and/or with friends to enjoy nature's best herbs! I love the super-duper Crafty for certain scenarios but I prefer the humble Coil for most of the day's sessions! It's just that it feels like I am more connected and in touch with the whole ritual with it. The Crafty is more cold and without character, a serious tool, a strict medical device built to give RESULTS. Like going to the hospital for your drugs. The Coil with the bamboo is like sitting around the fire with the elder Indians from the tribe under the starry sky and be immersed in the healing moment… I hope I am making sense… I love the Coil!

Hey guys. Had a vaporgenie couple years ago that I didn't use much. Also used vapman and mflb before.

Picked up a yellow classic not long ago.
My only vape right now.

I have that zico torch a couple of pages back on this thread, and a bic.

I know, I don't like the flint but for now I just strike it away from the bowl. Would like to get a better candle flame lighter.

Something interesting I tried....hitting dry with the zico and bic to test flavor.

Did it multiple times to confirm.

Nearly everything I have heard.....its said a torch will taste better than a bic or candle flame.

My test and my taste showed that both the torch and bic both had about equal flavor in the dry hit. Both put out a little taste from the flame.

To my surprise the bic didn't taste any worse at all like most claim.

Now the taste goes away fast and doesn't linger.

At least for me I didn't see any taste advantage with the torch.
With something in the bowl its not even really noticeable.

Anyways, torch for slightly windy areas....and flame for no wind IMO. I can use both easily. Torch warms up slightly faster. I keep the tip of the torch about flush with the bowl. Plus or minus to adjust temp based on my tongues feedback.

I've found that barely covering the screen or more gets the best vapor.

I've used less than screen covered (.05?)
And still vaped it to a darker brown.

Maybe slightly harder to burn if its barely loaded. From being slightly lower.....maybe not.

Obviously dry and ground up decently works best.

Flavor is great. Could easily vape low temps and get a few flavorful hits.

Everyones warm might be different.

For me....with at least the screen covered or more.......a little warmth on the tongue and I back off while drawing.....then if I want, do little dips to get more vapor and control temp.

Once its light brown I usually step up in heat.

I'll go until I deal some actual heat on my tongue. I'll dip to keep coming back at that hotter temp.

Eventually I'll have a wispy vapor hit and then basically no vapor.

If it's done good....it will come out towards dark brown and vaped pretty evenly.

I like how it can vape it fairly even.

Once that happens.....I've played with temps a bit and kept hitting it for a while with no visible vapor.... To see what it takes to smoke it. Seems like it took quite a bit.

I like to keep the bowl less than 3/4 full.

I've seen picks of bowls load to the rim.

I haven't actually tried that. But I'm thinking 1/4 to 3/4 will let you tap it easier and move or stir it if you want.

That and maybe someone can confirm whether its easier to combust with it fully loaded?

I'd imaging it'd be easier but maybe not? Because its higher up to the filter. I could be dead wrong hear though.

Honestly I wouldn't need another vape.

I like that it takes a bit of work. More something to do.

Super fast heat up.

Really big hits if you go straight to your "hot" temp.

Or go slower and then step it up. Either way you can vape to suit your needs.

I sort of like watching the flame dip in the bowl vs the torch.....and I like that its quiter while vaping. But both have a place. I'd get good at both....IMO.

Con's.....slight taste on dry hits both torch and bics.....but I doubt its unhealthy.

Butane refill. Not bad though.

Slight learning curve.

Overall I really like this vaporizer. I'd like to try their glass one and others...

But for now.....this thing is easy to use and one of the best parts for me.....is that since its convection I can stop anytime and not finish the rest.

It gives you freedom since not everyone wants to finish a fill bowl.....or use a tiny amount and get weak results because the screen isn't covered.

But I can see the point of a crafty or something. Really cool vapes out there. The precise temp is something I'd really like....
But another pro here is.....there's really nothing to go wrong or break.

Keep filter clean...
And clean pipe once in a while and it just simply works.

I sorta have doubt's that any battery portable can really blow away the genie as far as how big of a hit you can get.

Your doubts are well founded. Even my Crafty can't put out the kind of hit that my VG can. The amount of energy that a flame provides far exceeds the heat energy that a battery can provide with current technology. Love my VG. :luv:

Salutations,

Honestly I wouldn't need another vape.

Actually, well at least to me, the Vaporgenie Classic as it is today isn't then end: instead i'd say some nice future awaits eventually and the time should occur about now if i could help it!!

:D

Super fast heat up.

Hummm... How about a maximum of over 750 °C in a matter of nearly a quarter of a second?... It can be made thermostatic too - no sensor even required (etc.):

So the real question is how large a load needs to be exactly and hence i'd personally try to aim at a sweet spot somewhere inbetween, say 50 ~ 200 mg for dried/grinded cannabic material. That seems like a reasonable start anyway.

:science:

Really big hits if you go straight to your "hot" temp.

The SiC pucks are so adequate in this flame application, yet imagine if heat came from the heat-catcher itself, turning it into a heat-exchanger. Always at a predicatable temperature pre-set by alloy formulation in modular rings, LEGO-style...

Con's.....slight taste on dry hits both torch and bics.....but I doubt its unhealthy.

Using what i've got in mind the VaporGenie doesn't actually require a flame, an A.C. magnetic filed will do: turn to bi-energy and adopt IH compatibility, or go with Induction Heat and remain fire-compatible. At least i can tell "Plan-B" works since i've evaluated it for over a year, now if i could get my hands on a set of Curie-alloy rings you could expect to read about "Plan-A" in a matter of days, not months or years. Then i'd tell you how the "butane-free" (IH) mode (of bi-energy) compares, but that's only an hypothetic suggestion, though IMO not an impossible dream nonetheless!!

:leaf:

Slight learning curve.

The pipe reminds me of a musical instrument, although it may be involving to learn how to handle one there's some nice reward when success is finally achieved.

The precise temp is something I'd really like...

I'd certainly appreciate having the absolute certainly that my heating element in "Plan-A" mode can never exceed a given temperature, to me it seems the sweet spot for my cannabic bowl should be no higher than 361 °C (SV314-6) at the point of contact (inside my bowl); of course relatively to the convection part my vaping temperature shall be significantly higher beyond the top screen above my bowl, as some heat vanishes into that, etc. So for the convection heat element i'd say maybe around 399 °C (SV314-6), maybe more. Maybe a lot more... Somebody will have to check someday.

Unless I'm way off, did you mean 399 F? IIRC combustion occurs around 450 F (hence the name of a rather famous dystopian fiction novel).

399 C = ~750 F... That's REALLY bloody hot, even by cooking standards!

either way, I think I may get myself a bronze VaporGenie soon ish :p

Is there an available water pipe adapter for the VG? I'm trying to pick up a used Lotus, but I could get behind the VG if I can get the same WPA+stem package for less.

Salutations,

...did you mean 399 F?

You guessed right, it was a typo. Here are the references i used, hoping i didn't commit the same mistake there too (...):

Alloy SV314-6
183 °C (361 °F) Curie point

204 °C (399 °F) SV317-1

...399 C = ~750 F... That's REALLY bloody hot, even by cooking standards!

Honestly does it really matter if the range of available fixed-temperature alloys might exceed the range of application? Also, since i've been refering to IH technology as a means to attain fire-compatibility in a bi-energy concept there are 3 main options on my mind:

  • The letter "B" in my "Plan-B" (still) refers to butane-operated mode
  • The IH element is present within the air path (heat-radiating insert)
  • The IH element is excluded from that air path (ring for purist option)

Naturally, this calls for various Tc points depending on the scenario and associated variables...

...I think I may get myself a bronze VaporGenie...

The day there's one in front of me at a local shop i'll be likely to want/get mine too.

I get that the Coil is made for water pipes, but I do not want to be putting that steel wire on my glass. Given the option, if much rather get a hand carved VG and something to mate it with my WP. I would definitely want a dry stem and I love the beautiful discretion of the hand carved pieces.

Interesting, why is that? Which do you think will damage which? TIA

If this is an issue due to value of the glass or something, why not use a cheap adapter or spacer between?

While the coil fits nicely in water pipes due to the conical shape, I would not say it was made "for waterpipes".... it just happens to fit in them appropriately.
For a piece to mate a handcarved VG with glass....
think wood or silicone... and then ask members @Ed's TnT (wood) and @Ratchett (#D silicone mold) if they can make you the piece you desire.

Right on!

I'm worried about the coil potentially scratching my glass. My actual biggest problem is it looking like a crack pipe if I'm vaping outdoors. I just ordered a Lotus, so I'm going to wait to see how I like that before I think about commissioning a VG adapter. Something cheaper would probably be preferable though as I'd be switching to the VG n order to save money.

Thanks for the additional information. I guess I wouldn't worry about that. "Only real diamonds scratch glass" not withstanding the glass is harder than most steels (the coil is most likely very soft for easy forming). What I would expect, at worst, is some steel scuffing off and leaving dark deposits to clean off.

For sure I haven't noticed even that in my casual use.

A short piece of silicone tubing will add protection and a better seal.

The Glass Sherlock VG can also be easily adapted to a water-pipe, but it's $109. You only need the glass top, filter, and a GonG adapter for a bowl, but it's hard to buy just the filter if you don't own the vape... IIRC. I like this idea because it's all-glass and you don't have to spend all day screwing the top on and off just to stir your load. I know jambandphan03 has made some great posts on this, just search this thread for details and pics.

I was just about to suggest some tubing too ;) I still use my home versions of the glass VG, gave away my walnut hand carved VG to a friend so they could give it a go since they had a pax and wanted something flame based. She says she likes using it, I also showed her the clear tubing on the mouthpiece trick so she could see her vapor and get a better experience right away.

About the coil, it's a great vaping tool, sturdy but flexible and I wouldn't worry about it bothering your glass, it barely makes contact with it, so an O ring or bit of tubing might be helpful for a tighter seal, and keep it from rubbing the glass. I hardly use my lotus since the metal plate got old it's not hitting as well, and I don't want to bother paying for a replacement right now when I have my glass VG style vapes on hand. The info I posted about building them is burried somewhere in this thread... it was well over a year ago now when I was posting about it. I will sum up with a tip, healthstone glass uses the same carbon disk material as the VG heat stone only slightly larger in size, so you can get them as singles at aqua lab glass (alg) website or where ever they sell healthstone pipes. I filed my HS disk down to fit inside the 14/18 reducer and used a VG tension ring to secure it in there... works like a charm. :D My original VG glass top has finally cracked to the piont that I can no longer use it.

Only you can prevent ganja fires.
So then how would you use a torch with the VG? Just like a regular lighter?
