Tolerance Question

Ok granted it took me 8 months to even develop a little bit of one (an im still a light weight) but im curious. Do you find once you have a tolerance it applies to all strains or just the ones you were using or similar varieties (indica vs sativa and such)?

I bought my first 1/4 in querkle since thats one i can reliable use and not end up dizzy or anxious but im branching out. Mr.Nice was nice at first but one hit to many and it took a paranoid turn. I want to get back to trying the sativas that were a little too much for me before since the winter blues are taking a harder toll this year but im not sure where to start.

I mean really all i can do is try but i like having a baseline opinion on the matter :)

If it is a strain which is totally alien (have to look at parents for most strains) then it hits much harder the first couple times. Still trying to figure out how long I have to avoid a strain before it hits hard again. There is also generic THC tolerance at play too so it is a very hard thing to figure out.

Thanks @Pain i do keep goo dtrack of my strains and their basic lineage so that good to know. Im a super lightweight so its not always easy to find strains that wont knock me on my but or take me on a "bad trip" so to speak. I think ill start with the Jack i have since last time it was just too much for my heart rather than too overwhelming in general. Maybe i can handle it now.

I stay medicated for the most part, but still considered a lightweight (2.5-3.5 grams /wk). Mixing up strains is a good way to bust through tolerance. If one strain isn't doing what it used to, I'll mix in another, and go back to that one after a week.

Be careful jumping into sativas. They are not for everyone, and some batches of Jack might be too much even for someone with more experience. Maybe mix in a little Jack with your Querkle to start.

Remember, expectations affects the effects.

I'm sure you know by now, but I give this advice to all newcomers. Take a hit, wait 20 mins. Repeat until your condition improves, or your anxiety kicks in.

If the anxiety does kick in, try chewing on some peppercorns. It's supposed to work, but won't know until you try.

Concentrates fucked my tolerance. I'm just like @Magic9 - I stay elevated pretty much whenever I'm awake.

But every now and then a strain comes along that knocks me on my ass.

Another thing I do, I rotate my vapes and glass. It helps!

I guess it follows that those of us who make high quality concentrates would have high tolerances ;)

It may come as no surprise that I stay up with my friend mvapes whilst awake. However, this is conscious and deliberate, to fight off an eating disorder amongst other things!

Especially since I only dab dewaxed, plant material free and sterile concentrates, I have noticed 2 things.

1. Smaller dabs give much more effect - who knew, if you take out the inactives, what remains is stronger. lol

2. My throat feels like I've never smoked/vaped before when I wake up now. I may have slight dryness but never any soreness or congestion anymore (unless I vape too much flowers, I tend to only vape like .6g of flowers a day these days.

Whilst I stay up day in and day out, I actually will often use less than 1g of oil a week too. You can keep your tolerance down if you are careful with dosage. Remember, the effects of concentrates can last a long time and with some careful attention to your dosages, you can work out a balance that will keep you medicated as long as you need to be without doing gigantic dabs from the slab. :D

Thanks Magic9. Wow id be an uber light weight then my 1/8th lasted me months. The jack i have is from the same harvest as the first i tried so since it wasnt over the top last time i think ill be ok as long as i go slow. Ohan yes for sure i always wait between hits or raising my dose :). Lol i think ill skip the peppercorns i dont have enough teeth left!

Hi Mvapes. oh yeah i bet i thought about concentrates when i first got my card since pens are very discrete but luckily FC saved me from a ba experiance of majorly overdoing it. I do pretty well on 1-3 doses a day about 2 hits each on my MFLB. so im not always actively medicated but enough to not puke all the time.

Two things. First, I don't smoke. I vape. Secondly, even with the small amounts I use, I still notice when my tolerance begins to creep up but I can bring it right back down within 2 days by either abstaining, switching vaporizing methods (stem to bong to stem) or switching strains.

So in answer to your question, for me, using small amounts does not make tolerance breaks pointless.

I dream more. A LOT more. That's about it, but what's also true is that I've never abstained for more than 3 days in row so I have no idea what kind of withdrawals, if any, would occur further out than that.

Regarding the dreaming, studies have shown that THC interferes with REM sleep so additional dreaming when abstaining makes perfect sense.

Lol very good point Iwein :). Yes high tolerance an low tolerance have their down sides. Us featherweights have a hard time getting enough relief without side effects and average strains knock us around way to hard. The upside of vaping vs ingesting is that if its not a fun ride its done in a few hours.

You are correct that studies have shown that THC interferes with REM sleep, therefore interfering with dreaming. However, paradoxically, I seem to dream much more when vaping at night vs abstaining. Go figure?? Anyone else?

I'm on propranolol, so haven't the foggiest what its actually supposed to do. I do wonder if many older people on blood pressure meds are out there smoking a quarter at a time going "nothing is happening, man this modern weed is awful":zombie:

I take Lisinopril. Both Propranolol and Lisinopril lower BP, just in different ways. Propranolol is a beta blocker, and Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor.

I've been taking Lisinopril for years, and it has not affected my tolerance to cannabis at all.

That equates to .05g per session based on your usage schedule. That's truly amazing that you can even feel anything on .05g. I wish I could do that, I'm more of a .20g per session guy.

As to my tolerance, I've found mine stays about the same over the years. Additionally, I've found that tolerance breaks do absolutely nothing to lower my tolerance. I've taken numerous two week breaks in the past and noticed no difference when I returned to cannabis. Just my experience, I know others have had more of a positive experience with T breaks.

I consider my self a moderate user. I go through about a quarter ounce a month. It's a matter of perspective. Some would say my usage is very light others would say heavy.. IDK, but it's just right for me!

And even funnier it took almost 8 months to build up to that amount lol. My body is a serious wreck though my digestive system is pretty shot so nothing i take in reacts predictably or "normal". Im being evaluated for a genetic condition as well which would help explain why i metabolize substances differently.

Longest break ive taken sine finding my best strain was 3 days. And thats becasue i was staying with family in a time share so sneaking around was tough. I do ok for 2 days without by 3 im starting to fall apart. Whatever works for you is what ya gotta do im glad youve found a nice balance

I don't think that's that amazing though. I hear all the time of people getting as buzzed as they want to be after 2 to 3 hits of some very good bud. When I had my PD who's stems only held .025g, I was able to get 4 to 5 hits from that. My current daily driver, my LSV is not quite as efficient as that.
