The log says 145 but it's inaccurate - it leapt up a little bit ago from like 60 or so. There were a few signs that it might be about to die near the end, such as weird light glitches (normal mode would be a blinking light, boost would be a fast blinking light) and taking increasingly longer times to charge. I'm just pissed I'm going to have to send them the stupid thing back and wait for the turnaround when it's clearly a defective unit (the app even tells me so). Then again I've yet to hear back from them, it's like 8:30 Cali time, so we will see.

Excuse me for re-posting this on the Crafty thread, but since it and the Mighty were so similar, I thought I would ask here as well :

For the past day or two (I have had the Mighty since last Friday), I seem to be getting harsher pulls with the Mighty. I wouldn't say "combustion", but pulls that were once super clean and cool are now causing me to cough, and I'm detecting a "smokier" feel in my lungs, even when starting at temps around 330-340. The smokier feel does not progress as I go up the temps, so I don't think its burning?

I have kept the unit spotless, so it can't be the cooling unit, and the ABV is still coming out nice and brown at the end. The whole thing is perplexing me.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps the stash I'm using has a lot of twigs in it, (I ground the buds in my Space case without opening them up and checking/cleaning out any twigs inside,), and perhaps that's why, but the ABV looks pretty normal.

I am getting a wear and tear set, so I'll try out the new cooling unit when it comes, and will try different stashes, but just curious if anyone else is experiencing the same issue or have an idea to what else it could be?

If you have a defective unit just follow the directions on the website. My replacement shipped the next day after they received my broken one. Send it in with a nice letter . . . :)

I decided it was time to replace the oil pad the other day, to check for hot metal taste, didn't notice any, but the interesting point.

The old pad was used so much, it is pretty much deformed from all the picking and pinching to get it out of the bowl. I would say I've ran at least an ounce of high quality flowers under it, ground up good and fine. I covered the old oil pad in ISO and shook the mixture off and on for about 20 minutes. Let it set and evaporate. Sad to say, I have 0 reclaim from it. Just a few specs of dry ABV powder bits.

I had used reclaim oil on this pad at least 4 times to boost some sessions. Looks like I'll just be tossing these away when I am ready to swap them out.

All this being said, if anyone is worried about the oil pad holding back goodies from you, consider this debunked! Your cooling chamber is your goldmine for reclaim. About half an ounce of herb through it and it's a good time to clean it.

ALSO - During these cold months, be sure NOT to try and flip around the mouthpiece when the unit is super cold, like if you've been outside for a while. The oil acts like a superglue in the cold and will break that mouthpiece off as you rotate it.

I'm wondering if the twist on/twist off cooling chamber/mouthpiece lends to some of these chips we're seeing? Seems over time that twisting action with gunk, debris and the plastic experiencing cold weather to high heat ups, etc might lend to this problem??

Here is an example of a "nice" letter . . . :)

Dear S&B,

I absolutely love my Crafty, its the best vaporizer I have ever owned, but when I was cleaning it the plastic housing had a piece come off that is responsible for holding on the cooling unit. You can see the piece next to where it was is also “fatigued” and about to break which could render the unit useless, without warning, at any time. The crack expands when a cooling unit or filling aid is attached to the device. So I think I need a new case.

Please inspect everything, including underneath the filling chamber screen, repair unit, and advise, anything I can do to help please let me know because I love my Crafty and I need it back for a trip as quickly as possible.

Many thanks,

t-dub

With these two latest(ish) devices needing to go back to the mothership S&B to be fixed,

Maybe its time to remind us of the good old adage "what's better than one Crafty, two Crafties " :D

I'd love to have an extra unit in a draw just in case then again I'd go for a Mighty instead, which wouldn't go in the draw at all actually, so I'll start again,

Remember the old adage "What's better than one Crafty, two Crafties & two Mighties " cause you just never know!

That's what I told my partner but it did not go down that well, so I kinda tried again, " Yeah you're right Babe let's settle it with 2 Crafties then" .... didn't work either, damn!

Anyway sorry blablabla this Kali Jack is just to gooood, blablabla

Ok, I'll let myself out

NB: Crafty is a little plastic dynamite  fits my needs soooo perfectly

really loving the ease of use with the Crafty. it's just so quick and convenient. heats up quickly and cleans up super easy as well. I just invert the heater while it's still hot and brush it out. brush off the bottom of the cooling unit, and I'm done. finding myself using it more and more just because it's so easy

I was getting a bunch of particulate buildup in the cooling unit using the coarse screen that came installed, so I swapped in a finer screen. no more particulate buildup, and no noticeable increase in draw resistance.

why did S&B use the coarse screen instead of a finer one? I don't get it. is it just to avoid clogging for the super lazy who never clean their shit?

Cooling causes condensation of vapour. The craftys cooling unit does an impressive job at that so you will naturally expect condensate in the cooling chamber. Good thing is you can reclaim it, which makes for a great couple of sessions. There was a great cleaning guide written up by vape Dr on this thread...somewhere lol

Can you use it "as-is" without processing it further, say sticking a small ball on a layer of bud and putting it on a high temp?

Could not agree more about the 'ease of use' of the Crafty.

How long have you had the fine screen in?

Was running mine for a few weeks and it started clogging up. (Like the fine screens on my 'cano also do)

I have gone back to completely stock setup and temps on mine after much testing and experimenting.

It sounds like maybe your grind is too fine? I'll get build up eventually, but it usually takes probably close to two dozen full bowls. What you're describing is definitely different from my experiences.

You can try putting the oil pad on top of the bud, or you can replace the screen in your cooling unit with the finer screen they sent you as a replacement for the screen at the bottom of the bowl.

Possible, my previous vape was a MFLB so my bud was ground pretty well however since then its just a few twists in a two piece grinder and off I go.

I do vape pretty much every night, but I only use around 5g a month roughly.

Okay so my crafty has about 36 hours of use. So far everything has been great. Today I definitely had an incident of combustion though. I was watching it heat up on my app, and I noticed that the temperature was climbing very very slowly but I was patiently waiting and did not think anything about it. Then all of a sudden I noticed thick vapor coming out of the stem.So I picked it up and it could immediately smell that it was very very hot vapor or almost smoke so I started to pull on it.The temperature on the app was still only registering about 270 degrees Fahrenheit and I had it set for 360. It was definitely smoke. So I immediately turned it off and kept pulling to cool it down. Then I held the button in for 10 seconds to let it do the factory reset. I dumped out the chamber after it cooled down and took some pictures I will post them here.now I must figure out how to post the picture on here.

i know its suggested to load the chamber first and then let the crafty heat up... but isn t then the herb already a bit cooked and maybe less flaverfull... what your opinion... ok maybe you can t use the filling tool because it maybe melts

I officialy realized you get bigger clouds and better taste when you fully pAck the chamber and lightly tap it down. I was packing it too tight before.

Very interested in this, I swear it feels like I'm starting to get smalls bits of smoke in my vapor on my Mighty. Just enough to send me coughing, can can't figure out what it is, and is happening at temps as low as 330 F

Have you used much oil in your unit? Just a wild guess, maybe some seeped down into the oven or somehow got into the vape's internals?

Thanks for your reply, No, only had 6 days, have not used oil, have kept the entire unit, including the cooling unit. Have been using all week, will no issue, and then suddenly the other day, started getting really harsh vapors. Can't seem to figure out why. S & B recommended a burn off at 410 for a couple of minutes, will try when I get home.

Oh yea, I replaced that screen with the fine one and that made all the difference in the world. Brush or blow-done!

I've only been running the fine screen for a couple days, so maybe mine will get clogged too? I think a cleaning every few weeks is acceptable...

well I could not figure out how to get the pictures posted.after my crafty cool down I charged it fully and accepted to turn it back on and got the red and yellow flashing light. So I called s_&_d and they told me to send it and I would probably get a replacement. oh well good thing I've got the mighty and the Herbalizer to tide me over until it returns.Mike m I think it's probably just time for you to change your cooling unit or give it a good cleaning. After a couple of weeks of use it starts to taste a little harsh through a dirtycooling unit. pS sorry about the misspellings I'm driving using a speech to text app.

Thanks Freshly, but have been keeping it spotless, cleaning it every other day. I got a wear and tear set, with an extra cooling unit, and will try that tonight to see if it makes a difference.

I find the clean cooling unit to be far harsher than my usual glazed cooling unit. I clean mone at the half ounce mark.

I found the best way to clean is to soak in Iso for about 20 minutes max and use a dedicated tooth brush. I get it factory clean with no discoloration of the "plastic". I take the mouth piece out of the ISO after about 20 or so and use a pipe cleaner. I do this maybe once a week.
