Crafty/Crafty+ by Storz & Bickel

I really believe that Storz and Bickel needs to make one of these for the Crafty.

Rather than using the liquid pad, I think this would be a much more valid solution for 1/2 chamber packs.

I really feel that using the liquid pad on smaller bowls is basically using the wrong tool for the job.

I think the liquid pad absorbs too much heat, and the vapor seems very weak to me.

Great Scott!
Maybe I'm crazy but I get some of my best vapor throwing in half filled bowls of ground bud without any tricks and just not drawing like a cyclone.

I actually prefer it to a fully packed bowl.

Of course its spent faster but that would make sense to me.

I thought scaling the temp back 20 degrees would preserve it a little bit. So you're saying just don't rip it too hard. What temps are you operating at Darkrom?

Fluffy grind, add a pinch and close.
Heat and rip away!
I get two great clouds with robust taste and then a few smaller clouds with not a lot of good flavor.
ABV is usually a straw color with not much left unless I really turn up the E-Nano and then it tastes awful!

I like the fact that doing it this way seems to add a few more short sessions to the battery!

@Kaptan -- but would the vapor be cool enough? ime, with many portables that have little to no air path, the vapor is too hot for most. Your mobius, even dry, is doing more than enough to cool down the vapor.

I've seen different opinions in this thread and not much on the S&B site. I'm finally going to try concentrates on this thing. The general consensus is to put it on *top* of the liquid pad, correct? Can you also put flowers below the pad?

Yes that is the best way I found to use concentrates for maximum flavor. Simply lay down your flower bed, place pad on top, place dab on top, place cooling chamber on top, place mouth on top, feel on top, you are on top, you are a top! :-)

OK disagree with me, I can't force you to be right

Thanks, Volteric, from a concentrate newbie. I'll give the above a try with a fresh load once the current bowl is roasted--probably tonight. Guessing that shatter and "flake" will work about the same?

I'm a noob w concentrates as well. I only tried shatter and it worked very well. Ultimately on the advice of @Vape Dr. ended up with a high end oil pen Vape that I prefer. Keeps the crafty clean and always ready to do what it excels at: flowers. Don't get me wrong it handles concentrates very well it's just I'm finding the pen vape with wickless ceramic core w titstaniun coil preferable.

I gave it a go with an Arizer Solo stem with a domed screen, slightly inserted in the crafty bowl with no oil pad (herb was placed in the Crafty bowl). The vapor was warmer as predicted, but seemed more thick and potent by by-passing the cooling unit. I could have been imagining an increase in vapor, but it was certainly thicker. The stem was quite warm after a dozen hits.

Yeah, I should have a Cloud EVO tomorrow, along with some VX Nails. That will be my home device and will handle most concentrates. The Crafty will mainly be an on-the-road unit. May I ask what pen the Doc suggested?

This is incredible man, I have to ask the question:

Are you able to do this for Windows? You would instantly become one of my heroes! :D

Sorry, I have been spending the last 30+ years avoiding Microsoft operating systems. Don't see that changing now.

Looks interesting, but doesn't work with older versions of the OS unfortunately, and I got tired of updating to a new OS every 6 months or so.

~

It appears I'm doing a couple things in a way that won't run on older versions of OS X. I can look into adding support for 10.9 later but it's not going to be a quick fix. In the meantime 10.10 was a painless upgrade. Fast and broke nothing.

Got my Crafty 2 days now, upgrading from a MFLB. Does someone know how to hook up the Crafty with the Orbiter?

Did you notice a difference in flavour between the Solo stem and the cooling unit?
I find the CU gives a more "blended" hit and i loose a lot of the nuances in the flavour.
Almost a robust flavour and all the profiles are mixed into the hits.

When i tried without the cooling unit i found the flavour to be more "true" to what it tastes like in my other convection vapes. Also the hits were slightly thicker, i found.

If you find a way to do so without glazing the cooling chamber let me know cuz you're right man hitting a little flower dab sandwich is supreme!

Small bowls: Mission accomplished. EVO elb cap.

Smaller bowls work best when you don't spread them out so thin. My analogy would be making pancakes, the thinner they get, the faster they cook. When packing small loads: by covering the Crafy's bottom screen, it only forms a very thin layer and the heat consumes it pretty quickly.

Using this EVO elb cap, I stretched my session out to double what I have been getting.

I stir my Crafty, I know it's probably not necessary, but I just am superstitious like that, I figure I could find a few more surfaces to vape.

After my ELB cap stopped producing, I just dumped it directly into the Crafty and go into boost, that stirs it and gives one or two solid rips.

I feel great, a perfect dose for a pick me up without disabling the user. The cap fits very well, nothing is forced, the top screwed back in easily, and there's no rattle.

Yea your right it's not something good to do often unless maybe you have multiple cooling chambers. That might be a good idea because even using it one time i notice it all glazed up already

I agree with your assessment that the flavor did seem to have a more pure taste sans CU.

X3 I've just had sessions with a Mighty but X3. The flavor nuances seem to disappear with the cooling unit. IMO, there is no free lunch. Straight, short path gives the best pure/ true flavor.
The cooling unit trades some flavor for coolness of vapor and also trades off some potency for the cooling effect. See the pics of cleaning the cooling units , as that is all condensed vapor that didn't make it to your taste buds and lungs.
It is a great design but has pluses and minuses.

I ended up with a Dr. Dabber and a Vapor Bros Eleven. Happy that both of them are much better than the microg style cheap pens. I hate those. These are stylish with well made atomizers. Again the crafty is great w concentrates but these excel in that they low temp vape in 5 seconds. The crafty takes too long but is worth the wait. Diff situations make both ideal! :-)

I just made more tests and i have to admit that i am impressed by its performance for the number of draws with this little bowl, i did 22 draws, not big ones, normal ones, and yes 22. S&B did a very good job. The only problem is the battery, half of it went away after two sessions.. The two or three first draws have a phenomenal magic flavor..

I'd snort bud if it worked. Nothing smells/tastes as fragrant or as seductive except possibly basil. When I start reading research papers extolling the medicinal benefits of basil I might consider switching!

I am with you. Basil is incredible. Trying to decide if I want to try the eucalyptus I happen to have hanging around.
