Epoxy Glue and Rig Repair

Hello, Awhile back I broke a concentrate rig of mine, but I was able to repair it using a small amount of epoxy gel that contains epoxy resin and a hardener. It has been dry and cured for about a week.

My question is about how much if at all should I worry about glue fumes while using this rig?

I've done a little of my own research and I've found that epoxy glue does release dangerous fumes while curing, however I haven't been able to find out anything about fumes being released after it has been fully cured.

I also don't know if the clouds in the rig would pickup anything toxic from coming in brief contact with the glued joint.



The glue is applied near the top of the rig and there is a small amount just enough to seal the crack. I doubt it will be heated by the torch and nail much if at all but it should withstand temperatures up to 300F when cured.

Did you press the glass together and put the epoxy on the outside, or put the epoxy on the seam and press it together? If it was just he outside I would be less worried.

If it was me I would probably use it until my replacement came.

It was pressed together so there is definitely some glue on the inside

What's the name of the epoxy you used? If it cured hard, then I'd say the health risks are pretty minimal.

It's Loctite Epoxy Gel

I'll probably end up using it sparingly at least, I would think after it has hardened it would be about the same as using a type of plastic or rubber, but then again I'm not a chemist either.

The temp max on that joint should be like 140 F ???? so it should be fine.

It's after the water bath and then an air chamber and then the repair.

I would trash the piece and start new. A 1% risk is too high.

I built a stitch and glue boat using epoxy and it's fairly benign stuff (compared to polyester resin) as long as you're not huffing the fumes.

If it's fully cured you should be fine and odds are there's very little to gas off anyway.

I'd put it somewhere warm just ensure it cures completely.

It's probably not much worse than some of the crap we breath every day

Duct tape would look cooler.
