Discontinued The Firefly Vaporizer

Three Firefly questions:

Is there supposed to be draw resistance? I find mine has none.

The flavor is good but much more subtle than the Arizer solo or MFLB. The flavor is not as noticeable or tastes more "watered down". It is definetely cooler vapor though.

My Avb has been very uneven - dark black spots next to green spots. I've not been stirring so I will try that. My grind is medium (Santa Cruz Shredder); fill bowl to top, don't pack down.

I've read almost this whole thread and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. I follow the techniques others have posted.

Thanks!

There should be resistance. Try sqeezing the edges of the lid to goet a tighter seal.
When everything is dialed in this unit rips.

I find there's a little draw resistance especially if you draw fast

The FF has some of the tastiest vapor I've tried. It destroys the mflb and I think it has a slight edge over the solo from what I read.

Uneven avb is common in convection vapes. Stirring will help a lot and don't pack too much or you'll be stirring often.

Where was the FF purchased?

Thanks for the help - I purchased it from Vapeworld so it should be authentic.

A few days after I got it, when cleaning the bowl with a paper towel and iso, I think I pushed down a little too much. It seems like there's a little more gap at the bottom now. Could this effect it? I know there's a rubber gasket in there so I wouldn't think it would matter.

I'm not all that technical, but if the heating element is moved then it would affect the unit. How snug is the screen when you install it?

Yes, there should be resistance. Make sure the lid is on properly. If it's misaligned at all, even if the magnet makes a seal, you may not make a tight enough seal to create proper airflow. As for black spots etc, yes, try stirring every few hits.

A properly-functioning and aligned lid shouldn't need to be squeezed to work. (It's a good test actually...if the lid is on right, and you have to squeeze it to get a good seal and/or hit, then your lid magnet isn't strong enough and it should be replaced.)

This is interesting...because I've noticed differences in draw among the several FF's I've used. Even now, my Silver has more resistance (at any speed) than my Red which feels "airier". In general though it's a good idea to throttle back on your draw speed once you feel resistance.

I agree with you on the taste...the FF is, IMO, hands-down the tastiest, coolest vapor I've encountered in a portable.

It seems unlikely that you've actually moved the steel plate, but I guess anything is possible. It sits on top of a ceramic platform that in turn sits directly on the bottom of the device. I doubt you've done any damage...and as long as the FF performs, I wouldn't sweat it. (But in the future be gentle when pushing on the plate for cleaning purposes.)

It might help to check out the tear-down photos on page 81...gives you a good idea of how it's all pieced together, without having to void your warranty and open it yourself.

I do feel the resistance after the fast draw then draw slow, fast, slow, fast or whatever your style is. That's strange. Is there an airleak or something between the 2 units @mitchgo61? As long as it works right? Haha

It's pretty odd...especially because the silver has a weak-seeming magnet (lid pops right off) but a more restricted draw than the red, which seems airier but has a super strong magnet (you could lose a nail prying the lid off). Completely counter-intuitive, and I have no idea what explains the difference in draw, but it's quite noticeable.

They both work fine, for now anyway.

Hehehe, I had a similar problem recently, wouldn't believe the cause/solution.

Gave the FireFly its first cleaning the other day, really really needed it, took me much longer than expected but baby looks brand new. But, when I tried inhaling, it still seemed awfully gunked up even after "cleaning" out the mouthpiece.

But I only cleared out the bits of bud that were in the actual mouthpiece, that little slit that goes from the top to the mouthpiece....well I stuck the cleaner tool in there and managed to pull out enough reclaim to take a solid pea sized dab :p

NOW it hits like factory made, while looking factory made :D

I vaped a bowl this morning on an early morning work errand, and when I went to do my usual bowl at lunch, my FF was dead  and I only vaped once that morning so I was REALLY worried and thought I was starting to experience some of these battery issues that pop up.....thankfully, I charged it fully when I got home and it ran its usual cycle  all those vape bowls for science and to make sure the battery is ok...I remembered about halfway through that I vaped out the FF before bed last night and didn't put it on the charger after

Okay I need help. I guess I been vapin to much.. (2-3 times a day) my mouth is kinda burned up inside from this damn thing. Anybody know how to turn this into a water tool? Because I saw something earlier on these forums about tubing and attachments.

If your lips/mouth burns then let the FF rest for a minute or draw faster to lower the temp, it cools down fast. There's a SonG available, but it's not quite efficient (air leaks and not a snug fit). There's no official WPA, but you could always try a DIY method

Thanks everyone for your help so far!

Can anyone tell me if this result is typical?

Below is a picture of my Firefly bowl after two 20-second draws. There was little pre-heat (one second after bowl reaches maximum heat) and my draws were pretty fast and constant.

I stirred it up a little and you can see there are distinct dark black spots along with the green.

Sorry the pic isn't the best; its highly magnified.

I will try and get a pic tomorrow for reference, but my firefly (which doesnt seem the norm) browns up the material a lot more than what I see in yours. 2 x 20 second draws = all my material dark brown, with black spots. The lighter parts of my bowls are as dark or darker than the spots in your pic.

I imagine your results are more in line with what one should expect though.

It took me a while to work out the right technique for me, but my abv is much more evenly browned than yours appears to be. No more black whatsoever. The FF is trickier than it looks, and like many vaporizers requires user attention. IMO a light touch with the "trigger" button makes a big difference.

A hot FF can be a good thing. Play with her, maybe back off on pre heat times,
material dryness and strain can factor in the mix.

Hi all,

My firefly arrived in the post today so I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring too.

I've spent a good 5 hours reading reviews & experiences on here & similar forums- all seemed very positive & full of questions of fine tuning & individual preferences which I liked the sound of... So I bought it!!

It arrived today & once unpacked my first thought was that it's much bigger than I expected & weighs a fair bit too. I should explain I only want this forgone use, camping in the summer etc so not bothered by weight or size- just surprised!

I went for the 4 sec preheat then keep it on until nearing end of toke, 2nd hit straight in- all long, even inhale, I then left it for a few breaths then repeated & seemed to get a good number of hits off a loosely filled bowl.

Once done I cleaned out, wasn't sure of the smell factor so was outside (we have kids & don't smoke in the house) so simply blew it out, everything darkish brown- all good.

Had 4 more over the day & I feel amazing! Bought this to stop smoking & was worried it wouldn't give me a lasting buzz- it does but with no Mong & a lot more chilled.

I waxed the battery on the 3rd bowl but charged quick enough & got plenty of hits off the charge.

Well happy with it & look forward to tuning my methods for big fluffy clouds : )

I now have another batt that indicates a full charge after only 15 mins.
If I leave it for 45 mins. it functions normal. So any one with problem batts.
should go by the clock not the light.

I'm going for a spare battery & in-car charger (camping weekends sorted), suppose I'll need the external charger too! Anyone know if a USB charger is available for the firefly?

No harm in being prepared, right?

No USB charger currently. The spare and external charger are an excellent idea...you won't be sorry.

Welcome to FC and the FF, Mr Angry. Spend a little time here and you'll be Mr Happy! :p

Ha! Cheers, I'm new to vaping but day one has been brilliant! I haven't smoked a cigarette since 1999 but use baccy in my J's & have started noticing it in my chest, to knock out smoking entirely & still get baked is awesome!!

@Mr Angry there's a car adapter, or a small inverter will do the trick;
the ff requires 9 dc volts from a charger and usb only supplies 5 volts.

@grokit

Cheers for that, car charger should do the job, don't suppose I'll need more than that & a spare battery- mildly concerned over the battery issues people are having with the FF, how long before they start playing up?

Also I spent most of today spaced out to f*ck yet I only had a full bowl this morning- does anyone else have this experience? Not like spliff stoned but not normal either. Not sure I'd be doing too well at work the next day if I had a good vaping the night before, maybe it's cos I'm a noob to this? Previously very experienced smoker but this is something else, I'll get more practice in...
