Arizer Solo

Need @OF to confirm his finding as I believe he did some experiments along these lines.

Arizer doesn't say what to expect feeding the new Solo's with the old Solo's PA voltage. (8-9 volts) Seems some like @poonman have it working in a good way. "True" PA when battery is full and still works as charger when battery needs it. "True" being the big difference.
Can't remember if this is something that we can count on as gospel as don't think it was confirmed by any numbers. But would definitely be a plus in my books....;)

Like I said, for now I can't retest the new version as it's on loan. I too recall someone running with the PA, but they had to remove the battery? For sure the new version did not run as expected on the PA when I tried. And when I measured currents the battery was used to make up the shortfall in power from the supplied charger (which ran about 850mA IIRC?).

Understood. I think the question is, how the Solo behaves when has 8-9 volts and battery doesn't need charging. @poonman was getting over 5 sessions before his battery fell to the point the charger circuit would kick in. This would indicate the Solo is getting the majority of power from the PA. Seems this changes when the Solo is in need of a charge.

I took a better picture so you could see it charge. I thought there was a question whether or not the old PA could charge the newer Solo. Sorry if I misunderstood.:p I don't know enough about electronics.

EDIT
Thanks for keeping everyone on track @OF and @Pipes
I was trying yo get the picture right. Every time I took it I couldn't see the Solo charging. It took the pic in between the flashes.

I think that's a fair question, does the PA charge your new Solo normally? That is 'to the top' and in the normal time?

I will keep it on the charge to see if it charges up to 7 lights, it's back up to 6 lights lit up now. I don't have a battery meter checker or wouldn't know how to use one anyway to check.
EDIT
I would have to charge from low battery to find out if it charges at a regular time. Further testing will need to be done.;)

OK, just for the hack of it.
I sent Arizer an email asking, what if any are the benefits of using the 8.5 volt supply on newer Solos.? They still have them on their site with no description on use. Seems a little odd they don't let folks know if no use or benefit for new Solos. Specially at $45 a pop.
Will post back their response.

Digging a bit has refreshed my memory some. It seems there is partial charging possible using the new PA, but as expected it 'runs out of gas' (that is the voltage is too low to finish the charge:

Otherwise you could look at the PA as a 'low voltage charger'? That is unlike the old type the battery is still used in running? It may be some time before I can recover my new model and check this out.

Be interesting what Arizer has to say, thanks Pipes.

After reviewing all the portables I think I'll buy another solo.

Now I'm a little nervous because I use while charging- not a lot, but I'm an impatient sort. I try to wait, but it gets away from me! I'm wondering if I'm going to see issues down the line from that.
Fear not. Nothing lasts forever. Think of it as participating in a big experiment :)
If the battery claps out seriously within the 12 month warranty period, I'm sure they'll replace it.
If later so much the better and you can still replace it with a new standard battery if you're handy with a screwdriver - about $45 I think.
Even betterer, there are slightly more expensive high capacity replacements from vapepower.ca

Use the newer Solo as it's intended and worry about the battery later. I do try to take it off the charge when the green is still blinking, if possible. I try not to run the battery down to nothing, before I put it on the charge.

FCer @CentiZen has a Solo battery he sells. The Solo battery has a full 1 yr warranty and a 2 year warranty on the unit itself. That's pretty good. You will see several portable vaporizers on the market have only a 90 day warranty on the battery and a 1 year warranty on the unit.

There are times I use while charging not always. I have 2 of the newer version Solos and use my 1 older Solo once in a while. I like the easier draw of the newer model units.

The Solo is my go to vaporizer. It's a tank, the workhorse of portables, a very sturdy well made vaporizer. It works so well with WTs too. Its come down in price over the last couple years. It's proven it's place as being a top of the line portable unit.

Indeed. It's not like we didn't try to tell you to get on board or anything like that, we made great efforts to not keep it a secret. Glad you got on board, and in time for the Holidays no less.

Merry Christmas to all, and all the best wishes for family enjoyment and reflection the season brings. And a Happy New Year to us all........with the new vape choices the year will bring us. We are indeed blessed.

My DHGATE D020 bubbler came in (10 days including weekends) but I have no 18mm adapter. My SOLO is just staring at me (deer in headlights) I saw someone rigged up something with the stock stem in this thread but I cannot locate it. Anyone out there help me with configuring something or linking me to that portion of the thread please.

rubber grommets/o-rings around the stem, maybe some rubber bands twisted around and around enough to make a seal? Silicone tubing if you have it? A long thin piece of saran wrap?
