question about making ABV rick simpson oil

I plan on using this recipe http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/master-wus-green-dragon-tincture-w-abv.15910/ but I want to purge the alcohol out of it to make ABV RSO. Has anyone here done this? The video on youtube says to use an orgreenic frying pan over a pot of simmering water. I saw the reviews for the pan and they said that the nonstick surface sucks on the Ogreenic brand ones. Is it safe using a regular non stick pan or will the chemicals leach into the medicine.

I would imagine Pyrex would be the ideal dish used to evap your alcohol, especially in the double boiler set up you described. But there are other folks on here who are much more experienced then myself, and moreover, more qualified to give you a definitive answer.

That link shows instructions for making tincture, not oil. Dunno if I'd make tinc with ABV, but it's pretty good mixed with heated peanut butter and then mixed with ice cream, but I digress...

Remember that Everclear 190 is very flammable, especially with heated fumes (think cooking show flambe), so be careful on a stovetop. The link shows the Rick Simpson recipe. This uses a rice cooker as it won't burn anything, but will continue to heat as long as there is moisture, so when the alcohol is almost gone you can put a few drops of water in until it's clean...

lots of ways to do it but i have a somewhat unique way having tried others means that didn't turn out so well. my routine, i clean my vaporizer every morning. the used material i place in a "spent" container. when i have a good amount i mix it with vodka or everclear and let it sit. then i have what is called an "aeropress" :hmm: for making coffee. you can find them online lots of places mine was around twenty bucks. if not familiar it is a hand press no power anything, just a simple piston to press and flat filter. after the vodka mix has sat for a week or so i pour it into the aeropress. push the plunger down forcing the liquid through and the filter traps all the semi-solid materials. in the bottom all you have is the tincture. best yet after cleaning things up, the press, it goes back to being used for my morning coffee. it's the easiest and fastest way i've found to make tincture from vaped material. i have tried cheese cloth before but i don't like that process personally, kind of a pain, messy and the tincture not nearly so good as is produced using the aeropress. doesn't really matter how one does it so long as they are happy with the process and the end results.:)

@mikencolo - Thanks for sharing! I just got an Aeropress a couple of weeks ago and was considering it - the filtration would be great! Are you using the std paper filters or the stainless permie filter? Have you tried pressing anything thicker than alcohol?

i had ordered the steel ones but after three in a row and none fit i gave up and just went with the paper ones that come with. to be honest after using those i am very happy with the results. fyi i was told by the manufacturer of those steel filters that aeropress made a minor change recently in size/diameter why they all look to fit but don't. just a mess as you can't tell by looking at one, they can't tell you and just not worth the trouble imho, paper is easy, cheap and good.

i haven't tried pressing anything "thicker" as you asked. i doubt having used this for several months now that anything thicker, well it would require too much pressure to get it filtered without causing a leak/blowout. i didn't mention one thing in the first post that i do as part of the process. just before i filter out my tincture i sit it on a heating pad to warm it a bit. a safe source of heat that warms the mix making the filtration process more efficient and a bit easier to filter. not a lot just enough so the container/contents warm to the touch.

just to reiterate absolutely never ever anything with or near a flame, sparks, just better safe to say something than not. i say that only because it seems at least once a week someone is blowing up a garage or catching a home on fire here in colo. i think the users of this forum are much smarter, have common sense more so than the average joe on this subject, but still need to put it out there just in case. have a good one.

Thanks for sharing, as well as the safety info. We have all gas cooking here, so my christmas prezzie request was for an induction cooker. The one selected should provide very good temperature control and avoid any impromptu flambe incidents.

Now I dunno if this is a tinc thread or an oil thread, but from a tinc perspective what do you do with it to make it more palatable? I find the Everclear version to burn a lot under the tongue. I started mixing it into fruit juice, but it still has that 'lingering afterburn' that Everclear is famous for. I read somewhere about infusing with essential oils to help, but haven't made any for awhile now...

it's an oil thread my bad i got thinking about reclaiming, oil, etc. and got off track didn't intend to hijack it so to speak. that said i only use tincture with drinks before trying to sleep. as for taste i just expect it to taste nasty so when i add some to say mango or orange juice i do a small amount so i can drink it all quickly like a shot of liquor, quicker is better. i don't get the "afterburn" you mentioned i think partly as i take more after filtered allowing more of the alcohol to evaporate. i only do this process a couple times a year. i am a relative amateur at this just sharing a small bit i have picked up along the way. there is far more i don't know that others would be better at filling those gaps.

The guy who started the thread said he wanted to make oil, but posted a tinc recipe asking for comments. I guess it's a 'whatever' thread now :)

I've only made tinc once - by simmering weed in Everclear in a double-boiler on the stove. It was effective, but made your eyes water. I just made a batch of budder using reclaim and fresh buds, but will get started on another batch of tinc for the holidays. Maybe the taste will dull in enough eggnog?

Merry Hoho!

Can the reclaim oil from a stem be used externally like Rick Simpson oil?

In my head I thought since abv can just be digested without heating and work. Just maybe rubbing reclaim oil on lets say a sore joint or back or something, would that work also?

Just a vaked thought out of the blue. maybe this is covered else where on the forum but I couldn't find it in search.

I appreciate any input or feed back on this thanks, and i hope this isn't too off topic.

I think you'd want to dilute the oil/reclaim into a carrier oil. Straight it will be too strong and not easily absorbed. I use cold-pressed olive oil.

Hi,

Just a quick note, strictly IMO.

I make RSO using EC191 wash for 15 min, then double-boiler the EC off using very little heat, slowly for several hours.

Anyway, I noticed a huge difference switching from trim to manicured bud only. The consistency is better (thick, but smoother), and interestingly the oil is much more of a golden color when viewed closely.

The effects were much superior, lasted twice as long.

I only say that because with ABV, you might get the other-direction effect so to speak. Although we are all simply concentrating whatever happens to be available to end up in the oil, there is (in my experience) a big difference.

Also, I wonder if some cannabinoids would now be missing/spent? Or terpenes maybe? Out of my league to say intelligently.

But wanted to be helpful if possible. :-)

Also check out one of @Snappo videos, because on another thread (Naturally Decarbed Concentrates - Best Yet) I think he (or his video) shows him using ABV as a sort of "adjunct ingredient", i.e. - he uses it, but as a minor extra and primarily uses flowers and/or trim.

I think.

Thanks for the recognition, but you must be referring to someone else's video ...I never made one re decarbed concentrates - only made text posts. Enjoy!
