I have been using my DBV daily for months now and I am noticing white flakes on the ceramic heater. I am certain after examining that the heater isn't cracked, but I can wipe the flakes off.

Is this from being heated and cooled? These flakes are most likely being inhaled which is worrying me. I read about Mica and the diseases that ceramic dust can cause. Is that what these flakes are?

Anyone else see these small white flakes on their DBV heating element?

Looking into buying a portable, was wondering what you guys own and if you're happy with it. So far I'm leaning towards an Arizer Air. Any other suggestions? My Budget is ~250 dollars.

It could be dust from the air drawn past the element, that burns invisibly as it comes in contact, while passing that rod.
The dust or particles will not get to you.
It would need to make it past the herb, and screen..... then down a sticky wand, and through 3 feet of sticky tubing and a sticky mouthpiece, before it can get into your moist mouth... from there the tongue and moisture in throat take over and filter any unwanted particles before they get near your lungs.

I know that the stuff around the heater cover is from the environment, and air...but directly on the rod? Wouldn't anything on the rod burn off? That's why I always let DBV burn for a few minutes before vaping.

These flakes are white, and some wipe off, whereas some are more bonded to the rod. Also when I look at the rod, there are black ventricle lines, almost like surface cracks, but the rod is still smooth. Additionally, these cracks appear a lighter orange when the rod is on.

I do not think so..
Residue on the rod would not burn off.
The dust that lands on rod immediately burns, some turns to ash and just sits there.
It takes months for this ash to form.
The dustier the area, the more forms.
Also, there is weed that falls into your unit that sometimes is light enough to suck into that air hole, and it too can adhere as a white ash to the rod.

I wonder if it is white ash, some of it is tough to get off, and it is almost like it has bonded to the rod. That's why I suspected this maybe being ceramic dust forming on the rod.

Also since I see black lines on the rod, and that they burn brighter when on, I suspected the rod may be cracked...but I still can not tell.

You have the full support of 7th Floor LLC.
Please.. call them. They will take an interest.
Tell them that the response you got from "fellow vaporists on FC" was to contact the Professionals!

...and of course please report back and tell us what is going on.

I did contact them, but no response.

Does your DBV have any streaks on the rod? If you look closely, are there any flakes or rough parts on the texture?

I can not look that closely, the DBV has been on for years, and it is hot, 24/7.
I have a friends unit here, but due to spasticity I do not take things apart unless the situation is immediately urgent.
My LSV rod looks smooth and flawless.

Mine appears smooth too, but you can see the bumps if you look very close. I can also see the darker vertical lines that look like surface cracks.

@Vitolo what do you think of those photos and the texture on the ceramic rod? (I'm asking you because I know you know a lot about the DBV!) Thanks!

Those are good images.
They look exactly like the elements on the DBV I use (I turned it off for 1st time in years for you!)
The lines look like staining.
My DBV element appears the same.

Do you also see and feel a little bit of texture? You can sort of see the texture bumps in the photo...

Thanks V!

I have no sensation on fingertips.
My eyes can not focus so well.
I think they look the same.
This is not a criticism... but you may be over-thinking things here.
perhaps, go into a head shop, and ask to look at an element.
Wait for answer from 7th Floor.
If you are in any way nervous, use a different system until you get answer.

That's what I plan to do. I'm gonna go to a shop today and check out a DBV/SSV. I'm also going to check out other vapes. I have been researching other vapes that would eliminate risks, way to much info to sort through (in a good way). Thanks.

I'd like to announce that I've created a Best of the Da Buddha Vaporizer thread based on selections that @Magic9 was good enough to suggest. This is a work-in-progress and there more nominations to process. I also encourage all of you to nominate the best posts you've read here. Read How the "Best Of" threads work for details. Magic9 has reviewed pages 1-98 so far, and I'm grateful for that work. I'd really like to see more volunteers—yes, multiple—to review the whole thread. I bet you'd be surprised what you learn. Also, never assume that all the best posts have been found. Opinions vary, and no one is perfect.

Hey all, new Da Buddha owner here. I'm having an issue with the heating element not staying up more towards the top of the cover. I haven't got to test it yet but I've been reading it should be very close but not touching the cover. Does mine look right? Thats as high as I can get the heating element and as far down as I can push the cover. I tried taking the cover off and gently pulling up the heating element but it feels like its spring loaded and just falls back down..thanks in advance

i had the exact same problem when i got mine. take off the heating glass cover, just pull straight up while kinda twisting it, and yeah, i tripped out on the whole "spring loaded thing" too bc thats EXACTLY what mine kept doing, going back down that low. mine started out as low as urs in the pic, and is now almost touching the class cover. i found out u just have to really mess w by pulling it up REALLY slowly while twisting it just a LITTLE at a time, NOT TOO MUCH! i kept messin w it, and it EVENTUALLY stayed up there and it started vaping SOOO much better.. trust me, just tinker w it for a bit. haha tinker  :spliff:

Just so you know, the heating element is not "spring loaded". It's just held in place by the two well insulated leads that go to it. There is plenty of slack there so don't worry when trying to adjust the height. If you hold it up as far as it goes for a few seconds it will stay better. Maybe just a little higher there rainn, but hoptimum is right, you're in pretty good shape.

I just ordered my DaBuddha and I can't wait for it to get here! I live in Billings Montana and its coming from 7th Floor in Colorado so hopefully it'll be quick. More important I hope it shows up in awesome working order, which I am sure it will.

I ordered the black one, was really tempted to get the black glass tube instead of the clear one, but ended up going with the clear so I can see the vapor, and it should be easier to scrape out as well. I've been vaping with some very ghetto methods so this is going to be a huge step up for me = ).

After reading through these forums I'm stoked to after a while order new glass pieces for it. Ranging from possibly the LSV tube, to direct draw glass for the EV-2. Seems like the EV-2 glass will allow for some control in keeping the herb further from the heating unit. Not to mention all glass.

Anyways clearly you can see I am stoked!

And... if you have no fear, like cluffy... you can "open her up" and re-bend the wire gently in your favor, to allow a higher resting spot.

Yeah Vito, I looked for that pic, but alas it is gone. I won't open her up for another one until it's absolutely necessary. :)
