@pootsforjesus the app is easy to install and very necessary. You need to know the temps your set at. It could be at 450F for all you know which is all well and good if your vaping oil, hence the high temperature however 450F will absolutely combust your herb in a flash!

If you add another fine screen to the chamber that will lower the chamber temp aw well.
Also make sure the coil is pointed down away from the posts, you may simply have to tweak it down a little bit. A good way to determine this is to look at the bottom of your screen above the coil. If the screen is turning purple, either your temps are way too high or your coil is too close to the screen.

@°k The Elevape is a very easy vape to dial in. You must be careful not to over tighten the screw on the post or you will break the leg off the coil. This may infact be your issue.

Try taking the top off and blow into the USB port in front of a mirror in the dark and see how your coil is heating up. If it is sporadic when heating you may have a bad connection to your coil.

If that is the case, try taking both screws completely out, removing the coil, then tap the post on the side of a pencil laying on the table. You may have a broken piece of coil in one of your posts not allowing for a good connection, I've seen this before.

You can contact Joe at elevapesmart.com I believe he has a European contact for you, Joe will do whatever he can to get you up and Elevaping again as fast as possible.

I have had my ESV for a month now and it is my daily driver which I can use anytime I want anywhere I want as long as I have 10 seconds.

I hope this was helpful and I hope you both get your ESVs working properly soon. You will love The ESV!

I picked an ESV up a little while ago and I just haven't been able to figure it quite out yet. First off, the red light on the top of the unit never lights up. I recall reading about this happening to another member, so I shrugged it off.

Every time I've tried to use it, I've combusted. I haven't plugged it in to my windows box to see the current settings just yet, but so far I'm not a very happy user and I wish I had went with either a Crafty or an Air instead. I'll keep at it and try more draw techniques, but i've tried slow, fast, hard, soft, short, long, etc etc etc, all to gross combustion.
I'm assuming this is on the lowest default setting?

I like the robust construction of this vape, and the quick easy draw sounds great when it's working well. But it seems to still need some refinement before being adopted more widely, while the crafty although plastic seems to be more functionally polished. The air is a solo in a stick, so probably longer sessions in comparison with the other two. We seem to be entering a real golden age of portable vapes!

Thanks for trying but as my post suggested it I've done all that, I've been patient for at least 4 or 5 months with it slowly improving my way to use it but I think I've started with a badly set coil that spoiled the experience and the learning curve, hence why I can rely to @pootsforjesus experience I think.
As for the European contact as mentioned I'm not having impressive results so far.

I went to the site and remembered reading about the mac beta. Installed it on to my mac and I got my levels: 7, 8, and 11 (335, 355, 390).

I haven't looked through all of the previous pages yet so I apologize for asking this - where should the coil be in relation to the bowl (distance wise and such, I mean). Also @Vape Dr., where do you suggest adding the second screen to? Would it go on top of the bowl after filling it?

First I suggest lowering to temp 1, before changing anything else. And trying every draw style you can

You must have a more updated version of the Mac OS (I'm holding at 10.6.8) because it just crashes immediately whenever I try to open the App. Really discouraged me from using it as much as I thought I would. I hear the Crafty App works with most Mac OSs so I wonder what the problem is. Most of my buddies like it, but are Mac folk and paying a premium for something you can't use an integral part of just doesn't make any sense.

It's interesting (to me) that the two portable vapes with apps did it so differently, one needs a mobile os and bt4, the other needs a computer os and usb, both do usb charging; not sure which way is 'better'.

@pootsforjesus Remove the bottom ring under your chamber and add a fine screen.
You will have fine-coarse-fine that will decrease chamber temps a bit.
Always have the coil pointed more down by the serial numbers (opposite of the posts) just a bit. Make sure your not too close to the camera lens.
This is the same setup I use and I love the results at low temps 310-340F.

Thanks for the hints Vape Dr. I tried the screen ideal does work better that way. Had an old piece screen from a old magicflight box and using that for bottom screen. I also bent the coil a tad like you said.

I find it's my go to vaporizer when out and about. At home I tend to use the crafty first, once medicated I switch to elevape to maintain the effect. After 5 months with my elevape still amazed on how little it uses.

This vaporizers does need a little more maintenance to get coil, draw and grind right but once you find that sweet spot it also likely to become the favorite in your collection. It least it has for me.

So here's my coil, bent downwards. Is this what you mean? Is it too far or not far enough?

Thank you for those pictures I am trying to study up on this thing as much as I can and that will for sure go in my mental notes . I'm pretty set on getting this as my next vape and have recently been in contact with Joe, who so far has been very fast and helpful (hope that is the way this companys customer service works A+). I'm tired of reading through all the up and down reviews ,and just really need to try it for myself .I will probably tend to use this vape as HerbieVonVapster . I will use the Crafty or Air for a session and hope to use this in between with a hit here and there to stay medicated .

I also have a real need since I stopped combustion for a fast one hitter . I used to smoke a bowl and then take a hit here and there until the next bowl staying lightly yet nicely medicated . Since vaping and all this session stuff that has been non existent and I think I do more sessions than needed .The firefly kinda worked like this but I just felt like the hits were so slow and the fact that from a cold bowl I had to take 2 or 3 of those long pulls to get things warmed up to get a nice hit so it was not fast . Once I get this thing all dialed in ,and tinkered with I just want to be able to pull it outta my pocket take one or two fast 8sec rip's and put away . If that can happen This thing will win my heart

Enchantre , thank you for your opinion on the esv and enano . I am going to hold off on the enano for now . I just have a feeling once I get that its going to lead to glass .That could be a problem for my wallet ,problem for storage and problem for my OCD as I tend to keep most everything I own spotless . I am really getting good results from these higher end portables ,and it excites the gadget-tinker geek in me .

Thanks @Vape Dr. For that! I just replaced my coil but it then combusted on level 3 for me, way too hot! Im going to try using your pic as a reference to bend it lower when I can clean my Elevape. This new coil is actually bigger than my original coil too (I had though smaller coils was a new thing?!). I also had trouble puting the screws back in, they wouldn't tighten as much as they were before I removed my original so it was tough getting them in enough that I could put the elevape back together, just narrowly got it to fit. Wish it came with a screw driver too like the Alan wrench for this, I have to use tweezers...

I would also try the two screen trick to lower my bowl temp like you suggested, but I still can't remove that thing, no tool. And I'm on the road right now (I'm not the one driving though lol)

Could not agree more. I have suggested this to the company on more than one occasion. Chances are, most of us have something that will work already, but if changing the coil is something that needs to be done on a semi-regular basis, as it seems to, then a tool should be included. :2c:

I love this unit when it works, but I've been having reliability issues. Most recently, it stopped heating well. I cleaned the unit, fully charged it, and changed the heating coil, and now cannot get the unit to heat at all. The red light illuminates, but the coil won't glow or heat at all. I'm fairly confident that I attached the heating coil correctly. Any advice? I tried to email Joe, who has always been helpful, but the email bounced back.

Modnote: Back to back posts merged

Folks: Joe contacted me and helped me fix the problems, which appears to be that I over-tightened the screws into the posts holding the heating coil (or perhaps had the coil touching the side of the piece that goes on top. I posted here and sent a FC IM to Joe, and he contacted me within an hour, on a Sunday in the holiday season! As I've said, I really like the unit. When it works well, it's fantastic. It can be a bit finicky, but Elevape's outstanding customer service more than makes up for that.

So I decided to go for it , and my new ESV has already shipped today . At this point I have to say I am really impressed with the fast communication and service of this company , especially during the holiday season . I'm really excited to test the ESV out . I think Its going to fill a very nice niche that I don't have already with the crafty and the air . I think the new stirring lid , plus Vape Dr's video and his presence on this thread is what made me finally pull the trigger on this one. Those fast 8 sec hits over, and over with that little quarter turn of the cap in that video sold me :brow:. I will report back with some initial impressions once I receive it .

I have been fiddling with my ESV which has been back for just over a week now. I haven't had a lot of time with it but I think I'm almost there.

Still getting a hint of combustion here and there but it's a lot better than before.

I have gone back to a fine/course/fine screen setup and now I'm just dialing in the exact coil position and temps. Right now running 305-320-330 and it seems to be doing pretty well.

Here is an Elevape Smart Vaporizer cleaning video if anyone is interested.
I also did a coil replacement video that should be up soon as well as an oil pad video!

This cleaning video was done after using the Elevape twice with shatter and over a dozen times with herb (once right before the video).

TIP: I use 2 chamber lid screens (one like a tic tac toe board then the other one rotated 30 degrees, or like an argyle pattern) which also helps to keep the cooling chamber much much cleaner.

So I'm finally ready to report back . I've had the Elevape for over a week now . I've had a good chance to use it at home during the holidays and in my regular work day routine this week . Hands down this vape is a winner !!! I've owned pretty much every portable vape worth using in the last two months and the only thing that I' didn't resell on ebay was a Air and a crafty , If I don't like something I don't waste my time on it , I count my losses and move on . This vape fits so perfectly into my rotation and serves such a specific function . However , I did NOT love this thing at first :cuss: . please let me give you guys the rundown >>>

Upon receiving the elevape I opened and charged it . I was pretty amazed at how tiny the thing is , Its so tiny and stealthy the crafty and air both look huge charging next to it . The thing is a little tank in your hand its basically a solid chunk of aluminum so no chance of breaking it . First use with it I used the stock settings I had pre downloaded the app but figured I'd just try it on 1 first . First hit was bad no vapor and bad aluminum taste . It tasted like inside of a can or something . tried a couple more hits on 1 with very little success put it up to 2 setting and I started to get little puffs of vapor tiny . I looked inside , my load was all still green like it had not been touched . So I went to 3 setting and finally a little wispy hit , then another . At this point I knew it was only the first bowl ,and I didn't try the app yet, or even know the temps. So I looked at the app ,and it said temps were 315 345 380 ? those temps sounded great to me especially if in Vape Dr's video he was getting such nice hits at low temps. I should also mention this was with trying to hit it every way imaginable slow-fast you name it .Also cranking the stirring lid every hit and then some

So I decided to open the unit up because I figured it must be the coil position. I also wiped down the pieces with alcohol to see if that helped the weird taste . The coil did not look the same position or angle as Vape dr's picture . So I moved it down , angled it forward just a tad and got ready to try again . This time I got a tiny little puff on setting 1 , better on setting 2, a actual cloud on setting 3, and the weird taste was GONE . So I finally got it to work ,but at this point I am NOT impressed . Basically setting 3 was the only thing giving me a decent hit which wasn't even that great it was pretty wispy . I knew 380 should be more than high enough from reading other peoples temp settings on this thread . So I thought maybe the coil is bad that was sent with the unit . I ordered an extra 4 pack of coils with my elevape so I took out a spare and swapped it out. I positioned it just like Vape dr's and loaded it up with a fresh ground load . Basically same results :cuss:.

I was ready to pack this thing up and sell it on ebay ,but I couldn't get over that Vape dr video and how
well it worked ,so I decided to watch it again . This is where I found my problem . In the Video It shows him load it up by dumping his flower from a doob tube . It is a very fine powdery grind . I thought my space case 4 piece grinder was pretty fine ,but his grind just looked like powder falling out of that tube in the video. So I broke out my volcano 2 piece grinder that I got with the crafty . I made a super fine grind and packed up the elevape one last time . I took a hit and HOLY SHIT !!! I got the biggest sweetest lung busting cloud of vapor . The temp was still at setting 3 so 380 first hit :D. It made me cough it was such a fast unexpected big hit after such a disappointing first few bowls . I finished the rest of the load at 380 it was about 10 or so hits , the first 4 or 5 being very flavorful , the last few were not bad either ,much more tolerable than the last hits of some other vapes . The ABV was pretty even ,but I had been opening the lid a lot and checking the progress through the hits so between my inspection and the stirring lid there was a lot of stirring on this first working load.

Now that I knew the problem all along was my grind I loaded up another bowl of the powdery grind and started changing the temp settings on the app . After 2 or 3 bowls of tweaking the settings and my draw speed I decided on my temps. I am a recent convert from combusting so I find I am more of a high temp vapor . So my temps are probably a little higher than most at 375- 390 - 410 . I have the unit setup so the higher temp settings along with my fast draw speed let me whip the elevape out of my pocket take one or two fast big medicating hit's and put it away . I can finish a bowl on these settings in about 10 hits ,no stirring I just crank the stir lid a quick turn before every hit , its so fast and easy . The ABV a very nice brown just like the crafty and air.

Now that I have the unit setup to my liking I'm using it more and more . It really is becoming my go-to favorite vape in my line up . When I combusted I always had a pipe with a swivel lid loaded in my pocket with a lighter ready to go . This vape is the closest thing on the market to that . The fact that no lighter is needed and no smell means this is faster and stealthier than the pipe/lighter setup could ever be . I've been sneaking hits with this thing at times and places I never thought possible . All I have in my pocket is the elevape and a tiny doob tube of super fine grind . I think having the elevape and a good session portable is the perfect combination, and really all you need for your portable needs. Sometimes you just don't have the time to wait for something to heat up and then have a session . I noticed when I only had the session style vapes my consumption went up quite a bit because when I only needed a hit or two I was having a full session . When I'm with friends or relaxing watching tv , I'm picking the crafty or air .Everything else when I'm on the go and need to medicate fast and get on with what I'm doing its been elevape .As of right now if I lost one of three the elevape would be most missed since the crafty and air are both so similar . This thing is just really fitting into my routine that well

My suggestions to anyone considering purchasing the elevape >>>

- The stirring lid is a must , I think it should be included with the unit it works so well .Its only $10 though so not a big deal

-Buy an extra pack of chamber lid screens , When you use the stirring lid only the outer perimeter of the screen gets used and it gets pretty clogged up after a full days use (about 5 loads). At the end of the day I just swap it out with a new one and put the old one in a small cup of alcohol . The stirring lid lets you swap out the screen with no screwdriver just your fingers so its very fast and easy . I have 7 lid screens so when I get to the last one I dump the old ones out of the cup and they are brand new again ready for rotation .

-Buy an extra set of coils , a 4 pack is only $10 . I think having extra coils on hand is a no brainer . I'm glad I had them when I thought my first coil was bad (even though I think was just the grind in the end )

-Have a 2 piece grinder ,4 piece just doesn't cut it . I really hate 2 piece grinders because I just feel they are messy and I like to collect pollen from a 4 piece . However this vape needs a very fine grind so 2 piece is a must . I just ordered a 3 piece so I can turn it upside down get my fine grind I need and then turn it over and collect it in the bottom so it should be a little less messy than the 2piece .

-Little doob tubes, bead storage tubes work great loading this thing fast . You can get a 10 pack of bead storage tubes on ebay for like $3 , VERY convenient with the fine grind needed .

- Be prepared to tinker with this thing for a little bit when you get it . I really think the temps are just kinda guidelines . I think the temp is going to vary by coil distance/position , draw speed etc . So think of the temps as low, med, high not the actual temp degree per say .

-Have a very small flathead eyeglass screwdriver on hand for coil adjustment ,this should be but is NOT included .

- The current version of the app on Ipuff website is old . You need to contact Ipuff directly to send you the most current version of the app to download

-The orange crafty pick tool from s&B is the perfect companion for this thing . It is high temp plastic so it does not stick to the magnets and the elevape like a good tamp on top, the flat spot on the crafty pick is perfect size for this . I think a 5 pack is like $6 well worth it !

I forgot to add that I think the flavor of this vape is top notch . I think the first 3 hits from this unit are better than the first three from crafty or air . Especially the first hit , Really the only thing comparable to that first big burst of flavor hit is the firefly IMHO . Firefly has the first 3 hits of elevape beat hands down , but I'll have those first 3 hits done before you even finish your second on the fly .

Also battery is like pretty freeking amazing on this thing . It lasts me like 4 - 5 bowls and charges very nicely off my 2a output power bank .I think the usb charging, speed ,size and stealth of this thing make it a clear winner over the slightly better tasting more elegant firefly ,but that is for my needs . The firefly is probably the most comparable to this vape ,but having owned both they are so much different .

I really want to purchase this but I'm not a big DIY kind of guy. If ppl are spending this much, shouldn't it be easy to use like the crafty/mighty? But the video by vape dr. made me want it so bad. It looks so efficient and gives some nice vapor.

It is also my experience that this vape requires some tinkering. I'm not a DIY guy either but I have been able to get it right and I'm in testing now to make sure I can keep it there before I write my official review.

As of this point I can say that as of now this vape is not out of the box ready. It will require some tinkering and technique but once you have it right, it can be a great piece for your collection.

Right now I'm using my other vapes for my "sessions" and the ESV to keep me there. I believe that has been mentioned in this thread and the ESV works great in that capacity. Even better is that it can be used almost anywhere because it's stealthy in its small size and low smell.

@btka thank you for the kind words my friend! I hope it was informative!

@mixchu69 The ESV is "out of the box" ready for most people.
I just love to take things apart and tinker.
When taking apart my Elevape I realized just how easy it is to tweak it to your own personal preferences so I couldn't resist!
I love low temps and played around a bit untill I got what I considered "optimal" results for me.
The ESV is super efficient, tastes amazing, and has good vapor.
Once you have ESV set where you want it, it is good to go like the crafty without the 2 minute warm up time.:)

I know @scottg402 Had some trouble at first with his. However, being a self proclaimed "Non DIY guy" he was still able to get it dialed in to exactly where he likes all the temps.
Also I know @scottg402 is a crazy "Go big or go home" session kind of guy, lol.
Where as I am a "6 great draws and I'm good for a while" type of guy, so this vape works well for me as a session vape so to speak as well as a "keep you going" vape like he mentioned.

IMO the ESV is an all around great vape for any occasion!
