Custom Glass Ideas/Designs Thread

I really like your pricing expectation break down @Frederick McGuire . It is reasonable and similar to my expectations.

I would assume with the complexity of the fab egg that only the best blowers in the factory would be working on them. Therefore they would be less likely to have little blemishes and imperfections you find in some of the cheaper pieces.

To be clear the style fab egg I am speaking of having made is a normal size egg shaped 8 hole 4 drain. I know that blowers are making them with varying numbers of holes and drains. Less holes and less drains is less complex and takes less time so this can improve price

@Frederick McGuire who made the eggs you speak of and how many hole and drain is the $300 model

I just commissioned a 8 hole(4 levels of 2) straight fab for about $300 from an artist on Instagram. This was cheaper than if I went with the 9 hole(3 levels of 3)

@NickDlow Primarily form, but the function on a egg or ball rig is different from any other rig I've hit. If an egg is out of the question, I'm sure a female 90 degree jointed ball rig is possible at a low budget based on preexisting models, the only thing holding me back is that they all seem to have a tilted joint.

So here is a rough copy with adjustments to discuss (I have made 03 with a cone can, could it help?) Bearing in mind the arms been ugly but hey its a sketch :)

@oli, you rock. Thanks. Upon looking at it it's not as big of a visual improvement over the first one as I thought it would be, however I do think #2 would function much better. Who here owns a d020-D (same piece without the recycler)? I do, and I can tell you that on gentler hits bubbles don't stack more than an inch or so. Given this, the bubbles on the first one wouldn't stack high enough to recycle unless you ripped it really hard or filled the water level really high, either of which would defeat the purpose of a high-percolation, low drag perc such as the matrix.

As long as it recycled dependably and wasn't just my d020-D with an extra useless chamber, I'd buy either 1 or 2 in a heartbeat. As for 3, I'd imagine it would work slightly better than 1 for the reasons I described above, but it doesn't appeal to me visually at all, and if it was the version we ended up going with I think I'd respectfully bow out of this whole thing and not buy one at all...

Especially not when the mini pillar was already decided to be that way by blankrider.
I didn't design the neck or any part of the mini pillar. It is a direct replica of the SG because that is what is most in demand. I just told him to make it a female joint.

I get that you LOVE your 186 neck @EverythingsHazy but pushing it really hard won't change the majorities opinion. I am trying to listen to everyone's voice, I really am. I constantly review the thread and monitor how many likes each post gets to gauge the amount of interest. I put the majority above myself as illustrated by making the torus and klein 18mm even though I think they should be 14mm.

Lots of these designs would be purchased either way. Like if a straight neck pillar was the only option it would still sell. But I am trying to have them made to satisfy the majority.

I can't remember the blower tbh, it was in a thread here on fc, maybe the recent acquisitions thread?
No idea re holes/drains, I just remember being impressed at the ~$300 price range.

I'll shoot ya a pm if I find it

Lots of these options will be purchased either way if they are listed at $40-60, but for more, which it seems like some will be, everyone isn't going to just be getting them all and throwing hundreds away. Comparing the prices to the originals isn't good justification either because those are way overpriced to begin with, so saying "well its a third the price of the original $700 piece, doesn't make it worth getting 'anyway' if it isn't something you really like. Either way, regardless of who picked the first design for the mini pilar, it is that way now, and gives people the neck from the top option. No reason not to offer one from the back/side of the can (not sidecar) for those who want something else. . Options are always better, for the seller, AND the buyers. I still don't see how from a functionality standpoint, having the neck from the top makes any sense. It is more susceptible to being knocked over if someone leans on the mouthpiece too hard, and it's also taller for no reason. Either way tho, we have that option already.

Mini Peyote pillar pics or drawing.........
Can someone please post a picture of this bad boy.
I have searched here and tried searching AquaLabTech (ALT) as someone said it's a copy of
a piece over there.
Under what "brand" at ALT?
I found some written descriptions but not sure if those are even current.
I'm looking for max flavor, small can, minimal diffusion and this interests
me a lot.
Thank you---frustrated after 20 minutes searching

If someone "leans" on the mouthpiece, it's gonna fall over, doesn't matter where the mouth piece is...

Everything is hazy thanks to super lemon haze.
So close but so far---love everything but wish the joint was in center of the can.

I just don't get it as the center joint works so well with an inverted vape as it stands
straight up, is supported, takes nothing to support it.

Here, the vape would be hanging off the end, wanting to tip the piece AND
it's at an angle so you have to continue to hold the vape in the correct position.

Can someone explain?

I think a solid MS ball is completely doable by their team judging by work so far. That taller showerhead with the tear shaped ball
1%20Lots%20Glass%20pipes%20Glass%20bubbler%20Glass%20glass%20oil%20rig%20JH022-14.4.jpg
seemed promising but if they can get an 14/18mm female 90 degree joint on one (more appeal to sublimator/enail users) with a more ball shaped center (maybe someone who has connections can submit a ms ball photo
488A1368_zpsf18446e6.jpg
), slightly smaller size, and I think it would work with a basic showerhead bottom and sell very well. Their design seemed so close but just a slight misfire.
Edit: this is after using the MS ball rig multiple times and the unique pull of it, just seems so basic in design I couldn't shell out that kind of money.

The pillar design doesn't really lend itself to a centered dewaar joint.

It would be a lot of glass to jam in the middle of the piece.

----------------

Side note, how many of you actually leave your vape connected to the bong when not hitting it?

I understand the advantages of a stable piece, but some of the discussion seems focused on having a stable piece while the vape is attached...

I just don't really get that as the vape shouldn't be staying attached to the glass if you want any kind of stability...

I've got that pictured ball rig.

It's fun to use, but I think the mouthpiece is a bit too small and causes some drag...

Yingmin also has a version, which looks nicer...
Maybe check that one out?

I don't, BUT i don't always hold the piece while hitting it either if it's sitting on my desk. No need to with a solid base and good center of gravity. Not with the gb-186 anyway. Plus, some like to let the vape heatsoak their GonG attatchment before hitting, and not having to hold the piece, or worry that a light bump while the vape is resting on it, will knock it down, is very nice. I also agree that the joint should be on the side of the can not in the middle of it, considering all the glass for the percs and such, already taking up space in the can.

No clue what I did yesterday

I'd say "likes" are a very pure measure. Either the few that bother with the likes will rule or it's gona turn into a like-spam-war. The "majority" won't get their preference in either case. This is because the majority isn't bothered to go here to comment and "like" things. And that doesn't mean we get the right to pick our own preference.

We have the task of figuring out what the majority wants. So not only is it about having tried a thousand pipes and the knowledge that comes with that, it is also about understanding the person that has only bought 1 or 2 pieces from china. They buy different. Looks often matter more to them than function. So identifying yourself as a novice with only 1 china piece or none shouldn't mean your opinion is worthless, in fact it's worth the most if everybody else in the room is an expert.
(FYI I have 4 pipes, quartz, titanium, ceramic nails from dhg)

If anything is gona make this thread work it's gona be constructive commenting and keeping it short... A shitty drawing will be much more appreciated than a 5 mile descriptive paragraph of what you mean.

also.. I'm all for 14mm on the torus, klein and other products. Buying china glass is all about building variety, that means not 18mm female everything.

I thought the survey @Frederick McGuire did on

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/mouthpiece-and-neck-style-whats-your-preference.16582/

Is a good way of doing things although as @VJJJV says

The "majority" won't get their preference in either case. This is because the majority isn't bothered to go here to comment and "like" things.

Looking at Fred's survey, out of approx. 70 views approx 13 people have given their opinion.

Could we do one of those which each serious decision? and perhaps wait till we have 10 or 20 opinions before making a move?

Which each survey a quick reminders to happy lurkers to remind them to come and join the fun?

Holy Cow; if it were possible for Steven to do gridded work, this could be a great repica of
Yeah those EFS Incyclers are really nice. All clear runs about $500-$600 so I'd love to see a cheap version of that.

I think we are getting a Mothership Incycler IIRC.

Here is one I suggest. Sirenapparatus Swiss Klein. I would like to see a little longer/bigger mouthpiece tube but those details can be hashed out later :D

A ball rig should be coming eventually. It is very doable and indeed a more simple design compared to some of these other ones.

I want to remind everyone that just because it is possible for China to produce something does not mean that they can sell it for dirt cheap. The prices are set buy the difficulty and time it takes to produce the piece. For example we are lucky the 187 is not that complicated and they were able to offer it for $40. On the other hand a fab egg is only something a few people can make and they can only make 2 a day. This will make it substantially more expensive. I don't have a price yet but most likely over $100 and without the guarantee of American quality.

So you guys must decide if you want to get a China egg for still a great deal but over 100, or if you want to save up and get an American egg for 300+ from an up and coming artist. Or you can just not get an egg at all

Perhaps a good one for a new survey...As I have giving you a like because I feel it deserves one, with all this nice information you're giving us but would I want a Egg, YES, do I want spend over $100 on a piece of China Glass, probably NO

Edit: But my answer could be different if I did not have 5 pieces in the post + all the new stuff which will be coming from this thread and 30+ china pieces at home (Which I have now discovered that I can not sell, at least not here in Spain, I had many pieces on 2 websites, but out of 8 months I only sold 1 with super prices, so now I'm a little more carefull at what I buy)

Re-edit: Instead of talking mass production, isn't they a way to have Steven to produce a sample which we could pay together, If 20 of us would put $5 towards it for example. Since @blankrider seems to know his stuff I'd be happy for the sample to go to him as a gift for trials! There has to be some kind of perc for doing all this leg work for us!?

Dude @oli that is a very considerate suggestion. I have truly put a lot of myself into making this happen and not just for myself but for everyone. I have received nothing in return except the chance to purchase this glass once it is available.

Steven said that he would send me some tea with my 187 for my help. I graciously accepted it even though I don't like tea. Just seemed like the polite thing to do
