How Legalizing Cannabis Extractions Will Decrease BHO Explosions

The production of marijuana-derived products, like marijuana wax and hash oil, are a common cause of lab explosions throughout the country. The risk of an explosion rises when a laboratory uses any kind of alcohol solvent. But it also rises when the people working in the laboratory are untrained.

Cannabis extractions will always be popular, as they continue to prove beneficial to frequent users with high tolerance and those with serious medical problems. Marijuana wax and hash oil can be used in a variety of ways, and this versatility increases the demand. But because marijuana is illegal in most states, many who produce it are amateurs and are not properly trained.

As with anything illegal, the production of cannabis extractions does not follow a set of guidelines to ensure its workers and the community stay safe. Laboratories for marijuana wax and hash oil products lack proper ventilation, fire-suppression systems and controlled environments. Most workers in the industry are unable to rent safe facilities, resulting in the inclination to produce cannabis extractions in their own home.

Because there are no regulations for making marijuana wax, hash oil and other cannabis extractions, people continue to make the products in residential areas. This results in deadly explosions that could have been avoided had cannabis production been legalized and regulated.

If marijuana use and production were legal throughout the country, with it would come rules regarding how the laboratories are run. Workers would be skilled and trained in safety measures. Business owners could rent out proper laboratories. Businesses selling cannabis extractions would offer it for less than the black market, so people would not be inclined to start a laboratory in their homes.

The production and consumption of cannabis extractions will not cease in this country. If anything, the demand for it will grow over time. When marijuana is legalized, workers in the industry will be skilled professionals working in regulated laboratories, and BHO explosions will be few and far between.

Has there been a solution yet to the pump/seal issues people are having with closed-loop systems?

I fear for the right of an individual to make there own medicine. Yes for profit business should be regulated, but the right of an individual to make there own should not be taken away. There are idots ruining a lot of good things out there, but I believe in my right to make my own.

DIY extraction can still be safe. and some solvents are more dangerous than others. butane being the most dangerous i would think. evapping small amounts of ethanol will not result in danger even if done inside IMO (<----important). sure there is some danger, but its about the same a spilling a few ounces of everclear on your kitchen floor. i wouldnt go lighting a cig while standing over the spill, but your fridge isnt going to ignite it.

my guess is that the house in the pic above was processing oil with butane... and large amounts of it.

having said all of that... if i could buy high quality extractions amd not have to mess with it i likely would.

The explosion in the .gif was the result of bullets piercing the gas line in a shootout. No butane oil production involved in the video.

This article is highly speculative and doesn't seem to support its argument with any evidence. My biggest problem is with the text block I quoted; it assumes extraction explosions will decrease simply because concentrates are legally available. This totally ignores people who grow or have access to a large supply of cannabis; there is a huge incentive for them to manufacture their own concentrates, in order to realize some very large savings.

Attempting to regulate the industry will not make legal concentrates cheaper than the black market. In fact, it will do the opposite, unless heavily subsidized by tax payers. Regulation enforcement is expensive and that cost will be reflected in the product. Backyard [illegal] production will always be cheaper thanks to the lack of safety requirements.

Some of us out there don't consider ourselves the sharpest of the knives in the drawer... no offense.

Personally dude I would never trust myself making BHO for two reasons : One : Safety, explosion, etc

and Two : If everything did work out alright, I'm pretty sure the product would be lackluster at best.

Maybe this is just low self esteem talking? Or being realistic?

Well I am definitely not the shapest tool in the shead, but I have safety made some great bho with low equipment cost. That is probably thanks to grey wolf from skunk farm and the oh so friendly fooks here.

But on another point I worry extractions will get clumped together. Weather it is a person who investments in a safe closed loop system, some idot blasting inside, ethonal or iso(which are a lot safer), dry sifting kief or bubble hash, they could all be banded because the bad name fox gives us.

Give me extractions or give me death. Lol

Yeah I'm picking up what you're putting down, sounds like you had a lil bit of experienced help with process so maybe go a little easier for you ! Hah. But yes ! I am totally considering dry sift, bubble hash, and maybe even some QWISO ! (If I can stand the smell of the alcohol! Been off drink now for 3 years and smell makes me sick can't even have a sip of beer or I get allergic reaction...)

Darwin in action folks, lets face it if you use butane and don't know what you are doling it can bite you. On the other hand just a few simple safety steps reduces the risk to a minimal level IMO.
