Custom Glass Ideas/Designs Thread

@oli you are going to be a big asset to everyone with your photoshop skills. You should try to redo the last pillar posted by EverythingsHazy with a neck that comes from the top instead of the side. I would like to see people's response.

Here is the first prototype klein. Next one will be all clear and with bigger base plate. So it's not really ugly like I said

Looks really nice, although I think the joint should be longer. To get the piece to vortex or recycle properly, you will need a fairly high water level, just below the egg shaped bit inside. Placing the water that high on his piece may result in a wet vaporizer when the water bounces back up the joint...

I use a Claisen as a carb, so I prefer not to add more height with adapters. I think I'm in a minority though...so if I want a piece, I go with the flow and will use an adapter. I am right now trying to come up with a 3-way female Claisen for Joda to make me so I can vape flowers on the diffusion pump.

@blankrider (not having ever used one) that klein seems to me that it has a combination of too wide space (between internal and external "can") and too much distance between the perc and the upper holes, to recycle a lot of water

water test? :) :)

Anyone looking for a water test of this klein should go on to Instagram and check out greenbuddashop . They have almost the same thing and videos

More people on here seemed to like the idea of the neck NOT coming out of the top and killing the view of the can completely. The mini-pillar has that anyway, so let's not make them both the same. I don't see what the obsession with the neck coming from the top is about. Plus, it's the fc-186, not the fc- sovreignity pillar.

Found these two videos. The joint on the version @blankrider posted actually looks like it might be even higher up than the ones in those videos.

Looking good my friend!
The cans are shorter, but the joints are higher, they look to be at the middle of the funnel, while the one Blankrider posted is actually at the lower end of the funnel, but is hard to tell because the picture was a little angled.

Edit: BTW, I don't see it as a problem being a little lower, I'm sure they will water test it before the full production, right?

Shinier neck to fit the style of the newer images.

For some feedback:

That will be a beast as well as a best seller! I'll buy one

Yeah I can't imagine it would be hard to reproduce, but never seen anything like it! Very creative.
this is a good thread to share ideas and see what others want to see on the market. Good one @EverythingsHazy :)

Love it. Perfect neck, joint and mouthpiece design. Everything I love about the 186 and none of the things I dislike. Thanks @EverythingsHazy!

Everyone is getting to wrapped up in their own personal opinion of what is best. I am trying to request the designs that will sell the best and only a single model of each design. Everyone is not going to get exactly what they want. Sorry

There are a good selection of pieces that I am trying to have produced. There will be something for everyone. There does not need to be different joint and neck options for every model.

FC-187 is 18mm female and sidecar mouthpiece

Mini pillar will be 14mm female and sidecar/straight angled mouthpiece

Large pillar will be 18mm female and different mouthpiece. Perhaps bent neck

diffusion pump is 14mm male and bubbler style mouthpiece

ms torus and klein designs are bent neck

and more designs to come....
Why not make large ash collectors!
Add your own mouth piece?

I'll buy one too, ( I think I said that already).
But I like the one @oli drew #2 the most.
Appearance wise, they all look great imo. Very neat looking coming from the top. However, when you picture where your face is going to be, and where your eyes will be, you can see how the neck coming from the top doesnt allow you to see the can at all really, which is imo one of the best features of the gb-186. An unobstructed view into the can, down to where the bubbles are popping and the wisps of vapor are billowing into the open part of the can. It would look especially cool with pillars too imo.
Just my opinion.

Not all pieces are water tested before being sold, @SnidelyWhiplash will tell you that the proportions are important for these Klein or incycler type pieces.

I am sure this one from Steven will be fine, but please check out this post below to see how NOT to make one.

I officially think I took one for the team here.

Cloud doesn't fit, even with a clausen its uncomfortable. Taste and pain level are both shitty. D20 is a better buy. YQ-42 way better. Maybe my replacement will not suck balls...

I suddenly wish I gave the 70 to an artist like Colie with another 70 for something to last...

I think #1 off centered is the best option. It provides the viewing angle sought after by @EverythingsHazy while being more stream line. There is also no worries of water pooling at the bottom of the neck.

2 is good but the splash guard flare at the bottom of the neck is unnecessary in a pillar because it does not stack bubbles like other designs.

3 is good but overkill height wise. I was thinking this would be 14 inches tall, which is about the most you can fit in the standard 4 pistol case from Plano. I believe they are 15 inches across http://www.amazon.com/Plano-Protector-Four-Pistol-Case/dp/B000P3WPKK

Can someone pass this on to one of the sellers? 18mm female is key here for me, and the recycling function seems straight forward enough.

Second one would be this egg (although I hear that they have trouble with eggs) due to it's nice setup, would prefer it in 14/18 female though). There are a lot of angles + pictures on this site so it should be easy if they do attempt it. The angles/downstem seem slightly more basic which would help on reproduction.

Let him at least make the prototype for my design and I'll get that one if the neck must be on top for others, which is nothing more than an opinion. The neck is on top for the other pillar. Might as well get to see the original design for real at least once. Perhaps if nobody else wants one like mine, he can switch to whatever neck once I post pics if people still like the top neck better. I can't see why anyone would tho, because covering half the can is a design flaw. Tolerable if it was already made, but no point opting for it that way.
Especially not when the mini pillar was already decided to be that way by blankrider. No reason for all of them to be the same. If anyone really doesn't like it, they can always opt out of it. As blankrider even said, not every piece is going to have every variation. It's fitting to give the fc-186 it's original design as the one it IS going to get tho, so that option is out there.

@tennstrong that pyrology D-cycler is indeed a solid design and something worth consideration. I have heard many people who don't buy production designs say they would make an exception for that or the dimepiece.

Attention everyone interested in fab eggs! I have looked into it and it is for sure possible but not if you are going to be a cheap skate. They are not easy to make plain and simple. The real thing sell for a couple thousand and good imitations sell for upwards of 500. If we were to get them they would probably be over 100. How many people are willing to purchase one for between 100 and 200?

And please no one complain about the price because you can't find a decent egg for twice that

What are the benefits of a fab egg as I've never used one I've seen them but idk what I'm looking for. I'd still be interested in it for that price range if the function is up to par. With all the pics n water tests goin on here I don't see why it wouldn't. Sorry for the noob question

So here is a rough copy with adjustments to discuss (I have made 03 with a cone can, could it help?) Bearing in mind the arms been ugly but hey its a sketch :)

Z73jmuD.jpg
I like them in order, #1 the most, #3 the least.
Thanks!
This is purely a guess, but I think a lot of people like the 18mm female vs 14mm female because if you want an 18mm female to be 14mm you just use a reducer which doesn't add any height. However if you to change a 14mm female to an 18mm female your adapter adds an inch or two in height and some people may not like that extra height added?
That's pretty much my sentiment
Bend neck it is :)

#2>#3>#1
IMO.

Re: #1, I'm not the bigger fan of the offset neck, why not move it that little bit further and make it a bubbler mouthpiece at that point?

I didn't even think of that bit of the #2 neck being a splash guard, I just thought of it as an accent :)

Thanks for making these pics :)

For anything over $100, I'd be expecting better QC...
Once it's over $100, it gets to a point (for me) where it's no longer "fuck it" money and it becomes "let's consider this purchase" money.

I recently got a planet rig in from Kathy that had 2 little cracks where the downstem meets the main can.
For a ~$20 rig, I don't really care, but for a $100+ rig, id be pissed.

I fully get that it's a more complicated piece, and the added price would just be a reflection of that, but personally, here's how I think about a (china) piece regarding it's price range:
$0-$50: so long as it's functional and I don't drink water I'm happy.
$50-$120: any cracks start to become unacceptable in this price range. Crooked percs, or slightly sloppy construction are acceptable, but annoying.
Bubbles are acceptable so long as the piece isn't riddled with them.
$120-$200: absolutely no chips or cracks are acceptable, bubbles are only really acceptable at a join or something, crooked percs/sloppy construction become less acceptable (but still ok if they're not too noticeable).

Not trying to say the construction will be anything but fine, just throwing it out there that as a customer my expectations go up as the price goes up.

I'm pretty sure for a lot of buyers $50 is the sweet spot where under that price, the purchase is a no-brainer, and anything over that is a considered purchase.

I'd be hesitant to drop over $150 on it, (less so if there was already reviews from a couple of members that showed good function and QC).
At $150+ I'd personally start strongly considering looking into one of the lower end American made eggs, I think I saw one gong for ~$300 the other day.
While that's still 2x the price, the value proposition becomes a lot more murky there.
:2c::)

My understanding of the functional benefit is that it'll act like a Swiss perc - because it's a hollow egg, there's less water volume, so the water can stack up higher and give more contact time.

Plus, they look badass ;)

Yea, for a china piece, anything overr $70 has to be exceptional. The whole amazement with dhgate pieces is that they are 5-10x cheaper. Not just half the price. The shipping time, possible broken on arrival pieces, and other issues are only worth it if a piece is dirt cheap. Not just cheaper than the original. The originals are almost always way overpriced.
