I want to clean my cooling unit and reclaim the oil. What kind of ISO do you guys use?
I went to a pharmacy yesterday and they only had 70% ISO and it was about 5€ for a 150ml bottle, which is extremely expensive.
I read about 93/96% ISO and the clerk said that she only knows about 70% and 100% ISO.
They would have had to order the 100% ISO for me.

Can I reclaim with 70% ISO? Or do I need a higher percentage?
Will ISO from the hardware store work?

EDIT: Sorry if this is OT.

The lower the ISO % the weaker of a solvent. I would personally recommend to find yourself some 93/96%, or if you can find some everclear or ethyl alcohol 190 proof'ish, that would do a better job at cleaning the oil.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm not sure if there's a European spirit similar to Everclear.
Will ethyl alcohol evaporate and leave me with vapeable oil?

Oh and what does 190 proof stand for? Not sure if this is a dumb question

It's how we measure alcohol by volume in the US. 190 proof is 95% ABV (half the ABV % number). Ethyl Alcohol or some sort of flavor free 90-95% ABV vodka would be preferable as they are both food grade.

I'm going to start experimenting with this. You can get it at paint/hardware stores. Its ethanol denatured with a bit of methanol. The reason I'm trying the "green" stuff is because it has less methanol in it so its closer to what we want and what the manual recommends.

Try a DIY electronics shop. They should have some 99% for a reasonable price.

You can by simply double pressing the button again.

And man, some nice discussion going on here and I hate that I hardly can't take part anymore due to the fact that this nice haven has been stupidly blocked by the blue coat web filter at work, and this is the only place I really got time for the webs, kinda officially.
(It's blocking it for some weird reason btw and this might be easily avoidable for the webmasters..who's the one here I might address this to? Not only for selfish reasons, but it's a common web filter and as a consequence limiting FC's operating range!)

Anyway back to the Crafty and the efficiency discussion: not much to add here. To me it's efficient because I still smoke a lot of doobies and with not having to worry about supply my tolerance got sky high, but this thing gets me always well medicated in between with less herb and equally low hassle, plus it's so stealthy that I can medicate places I couldn't before, thus making it possible to process even more herb per day, much efficient I'd say :D

But I got one issue with the machine that no one really hasn't mentioned before: it's not so cool and nice to my lungs as all others here seem to experience it. Ok maybe not bad to my lungs, but I get this tickling feeling in the throat that makes you cough, not a slurmy cough deep down from the lungs but a irritated one. So I actually need to pay a tiny bit of attention to the puffs..I can't take too long and big hits and have to sip in between. Only experienced this before with the eNano when filling up too huge watertools or dry when the heat was too high. And yes I already use much lower temperature with the Crafty than what I'm used to, most of the session around 180° C. So ok, an avoidable issue, but sometimes I'd be more fun to pop even bigger clouds..

Your statement about how you smoke joints and STILL get high from the crafty is what just sealed the deal for me. I was like 75% sure I was gonna buy it with my next check but now you sealed the deal. You know this is the best vape if you get high even after smoking joints. The pax never did shit for me if I even smoked a bong rip before it.

Now about the taSte - has that issue went away for you from cleaning it like that guy said? Or do you still find it slightly harsh? I have always wondered why storz and bickel used stainless steel instead of titanium as that seems to be the best and healthiest metal. I emailed them and ask them that as well and they haven't replied.

Last night, I tried some material that has been sitting around for almost a year. It had never impressed me as being particularly effective. In the Crafty, it put me in a headlock and bitch-slapped me.

This is probably because your vaporizing it, which is a lower temperature so you can hold the pulls in for much longer and get a stronger high versus lighting it on fire when you can only hold it in for a couple of seconds?

As others have mentioned, I use Everclear for cleaning. It's 95 percent alcohol and is safer to ingest in case any residue is accidentally inhaled than ISO.

How does it perform with bud and shatter on the oil pad? I always thought it would be nice to smoke both at same time. Must be SUPER medicating! Does all the oil evaporate away from the pad like how a pen burns it away? Or does it leave residue? And would you say you can get a bigger pull of just oil from the crafty then a top line pen like let's say the dabbler? I feel like a pen would be better because the oil is in direct contact with the heating element but I could be wrong?

Try mousematrix.com and remember to enable javascript.

I can't confirm what you said about double pressing, can you really go back to normal temp? I checked and it doesn't do anything. I also have to turn off to disable boost mode. I think S&B act a lot like Apple. They make these silly software restrictions, or features (look up "intuitive scrolling mac"), and push us to trust them on user experience. Not sure how this is a feature though.

My unit does not revert back to normal temp from boost mode either with the double click. I have to do a "long" double click (turning the unit off and back on) to get back to normal temp.

IMHO My initial Crafty end-user summery:

a) Its a level up from the air (stem design), but is it a $400 (£240/e300) petro dollar vape?

b) I get the craft I do, it makes sense, I like it a lot, but S&B have left a gap for stonemonkey and his mates (portable cloud) or (portable) herbalizer, etc to do better in two areas. Unless, S&B address these areas then they can possibly be bested by the competition.

c) Need to test the crafty with different herb (north of equator/south of equator) mixtures.

d) Is a personal vape, I don't think I will be sharing it, unless I get a spare cooling unit to isopropyl.

e) Thanks, to the chaps on here for pointing me in the right direction

I think the arizer air looks terrible, it looks like an Apollo moon rocket in your pocket and apparently the draw resistance is only slightly better than the arizer solo. I also now realise iv been using my crafty wrong. Iv been putting far to much weed in the unit, i put the same amount i use in my E-nano and got a really fat cloud that gave me a far stronger effect than my E-nano. From now on I will be using far less.

@VitaminM I use 91% ISO from the dollar store.

I fill up a small Tostitos salsa jar just above the cooling chamber parts.

I let it soak for about an hour, periodically shaking it.

Cooling chamber looks like new!

Here is the ISO after cleaning.

I sometimes use this same method to reclaim my oil. To reclaim it, either vacuum purge it, or put it in a 6x6 pyrex dish with a fan on top blowing away from the dish.

***make sure to do this in a well ventilated area***

Wait at least 2 days (or until ISO is completely evaporated) and scrape up the reclaim with a Skilletool or razorblade and put it in a dab dish or on parchment paper (never use wax paper it has paraffin in it).

The higher the grade of ISO the less water in it (IE 91% ISO has 9% water) The lower the ISO rating the more water is in it. It will still work, just takes longer.
You should be able to find 91% ISO at most dollar stores, or something close to it.

This method has always worked great for me.

Hope this helps!

Hi Very high
Crafty is a real beast. I have gone back to full packed to the rafters bowls with no oil pad and just the top screen as normal. This way I get hit after hit but it can take me nearly 20mins to finish! I am completely floored at the end of the booster hits.

I will be trying a half load next time but putting on the booster temp after the first "flavor" hit and see how that treats me for bedtime :brow: I love how after finally letting the crafty turn off I can still get 2-3 tasty hits

Funny I just had a nice mini session doing just that. I load it with 1/2 chamber of herb, place oil pad over it with dab already placed on top of oil pad and lift off! Just imagine the flavor. It's otherworldly and trandimensional!

It melts down into oil pad and evaporates over time.

I've only tried the MicroG with wax and it tasted like colon cancer. The flavor and Vape production in the crafty is far far better in my opinion but I wanted to get a Dr. dabber ghost pen vape and really try a top rated pen vape to see if there's a difference but that's about $85 experiment I can't afford right now.

Nope. Never combusted any. MFLB, Pinnacle Pro, Vapman, Crafty.

@Volteric May I suggest you get maybe a omicron, O-phos, or even a "vaporizer" (that's the name $30) from W9 tech.
Their products are the finest oil products you can get.
They are also extremely affordable. Check out their website before you pull the trigger on the Dr Dabber.
http://www.w9tech.com/vaporizers-portable-oil/

FYI: the Dr Dabber uses a silica wick (same as micro G) where as W9 Tech uses ceramic rods with titanium wire. Plus everything they make, they sell rebuild kits for that are very inexpensive.

I've used the Dr Dabber and everything W9 Tech sells. W9 wins on taste, vapor, accessories, and cost all day long. I would just cut to the chase and get a solid oil vape. Check out the Persei thread!
Yes, there is a huge difference!

Just a suggestion my friend!

Hey thanks! Really appreciate the feedback and ideas. Have you vaped oil/wax in the crafty? How do you think it compares to the oil Vapes you recommend? Also, silly question: is there really a difference between vaping wax and hitting it with torch and nail. Seems so small amount that it doesn't seem to matter

Looks pretty good. They even have the mighty, but it just seems pointless to spend more on a digital reader. But I guess it's comparable to the Volcano classic to the digital. It also has an app that you can install on your phone. I don't know what it's supposed to, so please somebody explain.

It's not just a digital readout, it's also twice the battery. Main differences:

Mighty: Larger, 2x battery, digital readout, no app/bluetooth

Crafty: Smaller, 1x battery, no screen, connects via bluetooth to the app

The Crafty can only be set at two temperatures without the app, the normal temp, and the booster temp. By default they are 180° C and 195° C. However, with the app, you have the option to change those two temps to whatever you desire. Once you change it, it will stay at those temps until changed again.

Now I suggest you do a little more reading ;)

Like, dude it is all here. Old news, just read the thread a little bit.

The Crafty App controls LEDs and temps on the Crafty.
I'm new to this site so you can ease up a bit chief. I'm trying to contribute here, so if you're just going to tell me to read shit instead of giving me an answer or a decent response, you can just not reply at all.

Seems pretty good. Depends how much better the bigger battery is. It seems like an even trade off with the digital reader and the app.
