^^ It is TOTALLY understandable why a manufacturer would want to first eliminate user error before sending you out a replacement.

Variables:
Quality/potency of plant matter
Moisture content of plant matter
Fineness of grind of plant matter
Breath speed/technique
Heat-up time before first draw
Amount of power being delivered
When and how long power is delivered
How often plant material is shaken/mixed
and I'm sure I missed a few.

Your description of symptoms points to user error regarding one or more of the stated variables. If changing these variables is not possible for you, then the LB is not the right vape for you.

So let me get this straight. After the past few posts, you have completely ignored them and claim that there is no user error and that it is, in fact, a defective vape. And not only that, but BELIEVING that it is a defective vape, you are prepared to sell it to some unknowing person who is buying it from you in good faith? What the fuck????????

Looks like MagicFlight read you correctly.

I got flaming rules that I must comply with here, but man, I sure as hell would like not to right now. Too bad that there's not a rule for just being flat out unethical and pigheaded. (fuck, I couldn't help myself).

I was only trying to make a point that some people can't see around their egos. I won't be selling anyone a defective vape, as long as I'm not stuck with it because I'm just a noob.

Is it defective or is it inexperience? We're well over 10000 posts here and the vast majority of them are from users who are delighted with their LBs. There have been others who started out with complaints similar to yours, but in most of those cases the user was willing to learn to use the device correctly and was eventually happy. The number of cases in which the LB was found to be at fault probably doesn't even enter double digits.

It's possible your LB is at fault but you're refusing to try to learn to use it properly so a determination can be made. Does this seem reasonable to you?

Yes, this seems very reasonable. However I've been unable to explain that all of the methods result in a very unsatisfactory hit. Now though, I am positive that my box is defective.

I just met someone who also has a MFLB, and we had an opportunity to test the units against one another. We both agreed that something is seriously wrong with mine. The other box was giving thick, tasty hits even when using my batteries. Tomorrow I will call Magic Flight and work out a replacement.

What are "we" all using to attach the LB's to a bong?
I assume a short 1/4" piece of tubing as said above and what else?
How we attach to the bong part?
Ideas?

I have one ( a 14.4) as I also bought their water filter (which is a mini bubbler, and I like it a lot better than my bong for vaping, and it works awesomely. I will post pics of my setup soon for anyone interested. Anyway, these things cost $10.99. Just check the DBV website. SSV site prob has them as well.

Peace.

I'd be interested to see that because $90 isn't bad at all... Could you use it for combustion too, like as a perc on a bong?

Either way, looks to be sweet accessory for the LB

Yep, could be used to combust as well. I will clean my glass today and post some pics a bit later on.

And a note to eddyfrancis - I may be in the same boat you are. I can only get barely visible hits with my mflb so far. I am grinding it really fine, I am not packing, but filling the trench, I am using freshly charged stock batteries. I get like one hit that I can actually feel, but barely see, and after that its just horrible. I keep experimenting to see what I am doing wrong, but so far, this thing is not hitting well at all. I am not at the "its defective" point yet, but I am wondering how 500 pages of nothing but mostly positive reviews about this device, and I can't get a good hit from it. I am also an exclusive vaper since February, so I do know the diff between vape hits and combusted hits. We will see as I keep playing with it.

I don't understand why it's bad to pack down the trench a little. As long as you do it carefully to not damage the screen you can really benefit by having a bigger hit. Especially if it is not a full trench. I always figured that it caused more plant material be in contact with the screen and therefore produce more vapor.

I usually only do it at the end of a tench or when a battery is dying and I don't have others to use.

I don't agree that you've been reasonable, but I do understand your frustration. I reviewed all your posts and with that hindsight I can see that you have been trying to figure out how to get your LB to work properly. Usually someone struggling like that gets swarmed with helpful advice, but somehow you slipped through the cracks. For my own part, I apologize for not noticing.

I have to think think that you didn't explain yourself well to Magic-Flight. I say this because Magic-Flight has repeatedly bent over backwards to satisfy customers and honour their warranty. I am convinced that if you explained clearly that you had already done tests and tried various techniques without success, then Magic-Flight would have replaced your LB. We've seen this happen a few times in this thread, and Magic-Flight has always given the customer the benefit of the doubt. It just doesn't make sense that they'd treat you any differently.

Anyway, since you now have proof that your LB is defective, you should be on your way to LB joy. I hope you return and let us know how things went.

PeaceLuvPot: The Vaporpedia entry describes a way to determine if your LB is running too cool. Unfortunately, you have to sacrifice a load to do the test. :(

Yea, I have read it. I am going to try the test. I might just be used to my DBV hits, but I see the youtube hits where u can clearly see vapor on the exhale, and I barely get any. No I am not in search of a milky hit, I don't really care if I see any vapor at all, its just that the hits, visible vapor or not, are just tiny little hits compared to the DBV. I have tried the sipping method as well, and so far that does indeed seem to be the best hitting method, but even then, I get maybe 1/2 the hit I get off of the DBV, and thats only the first hit from a fresh trench. After that, I don't even feel the hit, let alone see any vapor. I don't want ot have to vape 2 or 3 trenches to get high. I take 2 or 3 hits from the DBV and I am completely blazed. And I am using self grown, completely frosty Lemon Skunk that vapes incredibly in the DBV, so its not the strain either. But I am not bashing this device yet. I have only had it a few days, so I will accept the learning curve, I will get better batteries, and a better charger, all before I judge it.

I have no interest in the PA, because when I am home, I use my DBV, because that thing hits like a beast. I also have no warm up time with the DBV, because I just leave it on all the time. So I want the MFLB for motorcycle rides with the wife, fishing on a boat with my buddy and son, and general portable use. So I need to get it working the way I want with batteries.

I will update further as I learn the curve. Thanks.

I sacrifice loads every night before bed... buh-duh, DAH.
haha.
Oh... being single...

Side note: some people just aren't going to like the LB... it's different and you have to change your ways... find me a million people that LOVE change, and I'll give you a shiny dollar, uncreased and pristine.

A couple of my friends love my volcano but don't get why I'd want to vaporize all the time...
I've heard this so many times "I like smoking... can't I smoke? Can you get off my ass and let me smoke?"
given, my friends are borderline assholes, but still... it's a trendy device, but I feel that it's too different for some... the need to use a lighter, to feel the "rush" of depleted oxygen... some don't even like the taste (weirdos).

HOWEVER, just because we're different doesn't mean we all can't get along... the LB is all about love... read the back of the unit... there's no need for flaming users until they're left as charred and smoldering dust (and that goes for BOTH sides of the argument).

and yes, a lot of the time, the disliking of the LB comes from user error... but it's precisely that user error that deters some from liking the device... a pot smoking device should not be tricky to use, and for those unfamiliar with teh device, it is uneasy to use... it's not like smoking out of anything traditional... and most people have been smoking for a while, and don't want someone telling them "hey, you need to smoke weed like this.

but really... in the end... our (LB users) lungs will be less blackened and our stashes will last longer, so we win anyways... but the losers don't really lose, either... they just stick to the archaic ways of herb-burning.

maybe someday everyone will get tired of setting things on fire, but until then... no need to argue and tarnish the good-natured name of FUCKCOMBUSTION.

Thanks and you're welcome.

That's really not necessary. The supplied batteries are MAHA Imedions (unless I've missed something lately) and they're top rate bats. The charger should also be quite sufficient.

Not mine, mine are powerex 2400's. Not that they are not bad, but I hear 2700's are better. I am just looking to find a decent hit off of the thing is all.

Got mine today and banged through my inaugural trench. I'm very impressed. It works great for me right out of the box. I used fairly fine ground material, the mouth/nose breathing technique after a 3-5 second heat up and got a series of about five pretty serious hits. Nice vapor production, great flavor, stupid easy to use... I have no complaints whatsoever.

I've used an Iolite for about a year and while I do dig it, there are down sides. It's hot, it takes a good ten minutes to get it up to optimal temperature, it's futzy about starting up sometimes, it's finicky about butane flow, it's loud. In other words, I experience the typical litany of Iolite niggles. Ultimately the two best things about it are the stealthiness (to the extent it can be stealthy given the wooshing noise) and the reasonably decent hits. The MFLB dropped hits as good as anything I've ever gotten from the Iolite on the very first try, it's incredibly small, the ergonomics are satisfyingly pipe-like and it makes no noise whatsoever. Basically, unless I find the batteries to be problematic in terms of "useful session life" this thing is exactly what I've been wanting the Iolite to be from day one.

As far as PeaceLuvPot's comments on the batteries go, I'm a seasoned e-cigarette user and a semi-professional photographer. I'm well versed in batteries and chargers. I've used dozens of chargers and just about every brand of battery out there. There's no doubt that the batteries and charger that come with the Magic Flight are top notch. Higher mAH bats would be a nice addition to your standard kit, but I doubt it's necessary. If I didn't already have a bunch of chargers and batteries I'd probably buy four more batteries to match the ones that come with it and a four battery charger. The two slot charger is fine, but four gives you more flexibility.

So, yeah. Barring unforeseen developments the MFLB is a HUGE thumbs up for me. I love the simple and elegant design. It's absolutely purpose built, it delivers a great hit and it's practically James Bond-esque in terms of stealthiness.

I hope this is allowed. If I post too many pics, or they are too big (downsized 50% of original already) let me know and I will edit this post.

Here are a bunch of pics of the GonG connector, and the little water filter (mini bubbler) from 7th floor. They would both work with the MFLB very well.

No yours are MAHA as well. Imedion and Powerex are both MAHA designations. The 2700s (Powerex) are better if used right away, but the Imedions are low discharge and retain their charge much better/longer while sitting idle. I've used both and there really isn't that much difference. If you're having an issue with your box, using Imedions, putting in Powerex 2700s won't solve it.

After a weekend with the PA I have some more thoughts. Let me preface my comments by saying the performance of MFLB is spectacular and far exceeds the performance using batteries. My criticism is based on Magic Flight's desire for feedback on the beta unit.

The cord from the "battery" to the power dial is too short (less than arm length). This forces me to hold the power unit in my hand or in my lap as opposed to leaving it on a table. Same deal while passing it to others. Both scenarios add the "twisting of the cord which is my other issue. If I am able to be close enough to a flat surface to rest the power dial down it falls almost every time due to the length (usually my fault) or more regularly to the heavy duty wire connecting the "battery" and dial unwinding. Since both the dial and MFLB are very lightweight the cord twists easily overpowers them both making them twist about and not sit level. The rubber feet offer no resistance. While that is happening the power input plug from the wall to the power dial regularly falls out with little resistance.

Like I said at the beginning of my post I love the PA but the "cording" of it is not very user friendly and could use some redesigning in my opinion. Perhaps adding length to the last cord connecting the battery to the dial or adding weight to the wood pieces surrounding the dial might help stabilize it more. As is, passing the MFLB + PA to a friend is kind of a cluster of wires that leaves my trench and box vunerable to being dropped.

Just got my MFLB this afternoon.

Chopped some herb and tried it right out of the box and was able to pull two mild puffs. Loved the taste! Took 4-5 minutes to realize the effect. But I think my grind was too big.

Got home, put the batteries on the charger and waited for the steady green lights (about 2 hours or less). Ginded some more dry herb to get a finer grind. Filled-up the trench and pull 2-3 long puffs while shaking in between each puff. The last puff tasted differently, so I realized there was something wrong. Opened it up, emptied the trench and saw some burned herb stuck in the bottom. Haaa too fine grind I guess!

I grinded some more herb with a grind size in between my last two attempts, filled-up the trench, put the other unused battery and hmmmmm ahhhhhh wow.... Filled-up my lungs 3 times and I am quite vaped right now :)

Grind size seems to be very important. Shaking the unit very well between each hits as well.

I'll report more as I try different methods. So far I'm using the tips and tricks described on YT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lz68fCk97fM&feature=youtu.be and I'm very happy with the results ;)

I can see why the extra batteries with a 4 slot charger and/or the PA adaptor...
