Mine has the new car smell, & can almost taste it. Hoping it will eventually dissipate.

Herculean in siZe, and fast heater. Huge capacity.

No way I can call this tower a portable, will do fine in a backpack, however.

Everything about this behemoth is gy-normous. Except the pri:2c:e.

Since when did UPS and USPS start working together? UPS said my package was in town at 5:00 this morning, but tracking still showed an arrival date of tomorrow. I was hoping UPS would show up anyway, but they didn't. Instead, they handed the package off to the local post office, and they will deliver it tomorrow. wth?

Yup. I got the run-around with the UPS/USPS chase, the ultimate example of UP the down staircase:

MD first goes thru UPS. UPS then transfers it to the local PO. Which then will deliver it.

Believe it's a way to shave off their time, and gas, ultimately saving potential $$$.

Comparison shopping will show that UPS rates ups USPS, sorta like UPS-ing the ante.

The good thing is that it eventually shows up, although I am still chasing my Ascent.

Renaissance, indeed.

Incidentally, not to undercut UP$, I found that cutting off UP$ from the möbius loop altogether, is actually faster.

& you save buxs.

My :2c:.

stark1,
Got my V8 from MD. Charged and burning off now. Quick question...

How in the blue hell do I get the glass mouthpiece out of there? Son of a bitch is stuck tighter than a titmouse twat. Is there a trick to it before I bust out a screwdriver and risk chipping it?

TheDudeNextDoor,
Maybe heat it up more?
With the Solo you also have to heat it up first sometimes before the glass mouthpiece fits in.

I've had it running at 446 steadily for about 10 minutes so far. Not budging. I'll keep trying.

Edit: Got it! Just a little nudge with a small screwdriver released the grip.

Mine comes out pretty easily, i just hook my thumbnail under the glass lip. the indent under the rubber top piece is there so you can grab the glass straw from the lip.

fake name,
Holy frack! This thing has a restrictive draw, way more restrictive than the Pax, even without it being loaded! Not getting much from it yet but a plastic taste, and working hard for that. Gonna burn off some more.

I hope you folks don't mind me adding my 2 cents. I received mine today from the MD purchase.
I haven't turned it on yet but I pulled it out of the box and tried the draw (which was fine for me - not much different than the Flowermate V5 or IMAG Plus or any of my mods).

Without heating it up the taste (and surprisingly a powerful lingering aftertaste) of the unheated unit is abhorrent. It reminds me maybe of breathing the air out of a swimming innertube . I hope letting it air out outside will help.

So as I said I received my FlowerMate V8.0 By Smiss.

The box includes:
User Manual
Packing Tool / Cleaning Brush
AC/DC Adapter
2x Borosilicate Glass Mouthpiece
FLOWERMATE V8.0

The V8 stands roughly at 5-7/8" tall (no MP) and 2-7/8" wide. The V8 also has 3 internal 2000mAh Li-polymer Batteries, 11.1v adding to the weight of 309.3g/0.681lbs. I believe the oven has a capacity around .2g if packed, I lightly tamped and used .18g. The temp ranges from 104f-446f/40c-230c. The heat up time with the V8 is around 20 seconds, basically instant. The battery claims to be last 150 min on a fully charged unit and take 3-3.5hrs to charge from completely drain to full. (I have not used it enough to confirm or deny this. This unit has a 5 min auto shut off. My sessions tend to last longer so running a second session, another 5 min works perfectly.

Here are a couple size comparison pictures before i get into my experience and first impression with the FlowerMate V8.0.

The FlowerMate V8.0 came partially charged so i charged it fully before my burn offs. It defiantly had the new factory smell but no visible burnoff vapor. Also no extreme electric or glue smell like that beta unit as I was not expecting it to have that issue. I probably performed a dozen burnoffs. The 'new' taste was still lingering a little bit. After the first oven it was basically gone.

I loaded the oven up with .18g of herb and set the temp to 175c. I really like how you can set the temp without heating up the unit too, because I start on low temps and end at high temps. One click turns on the OLED and you select your temp then hold or repeatedly press the power button to start heating. In the blink of an eye it was up to temp! There wasn't too much vapor being produced, so I just kept bumping up 5-10c. The vapor was very tasty at the low temps (185c-195c) with pretty decent clouds. I ended my session at 210c and the vapor was surprisingly cool. I can't quite figure out the air path as most have said it doesn't go straight down. Nor do i know the materials besides the ceramic oven and ss screen. There seems to be a good amount of restriction when you draw from the unit loaded or unloaded and with the oven door open or closed. But still produces fairly good clouds. The ABV looked pretty evenly vaped. IMO the V8.0 is not a discreet vape what so ever it's just too large and too shiny. Unless you're a Sasquatch, you can't conceal this in your palm. Though it's perfect for the the times when discretion is not a factor.

Pros:
heat up time
battery length/power
price
charge time considering 3 batteries
even abv
cool vapor
unit itself stays cool
did I already say the PRICE lol

Cons:
standard 'new' smell
very large
small oven size
doesn't seem to do concentrates (haven't tried)
can't use while being charged

Well this is just MY initial thoughts/review hope it helps thanks guys n gals. Keep vaping!

I've been burning off throughout the day (not constant but fairly regular), about half a battery's worth so far. The smell, which was strong at first, is still detectable if I smell the chamber up close, but it is definitely dissipating rapidly now. The taste was horrible when I tried it, so hopefully this will help. @Happy Magpie is spot on with the description of the taste. Can't take much of that.

I enjoy everything about this (the size, the speed of heatup, the chamber size, the operation, etc.) Except that stupid odor and taste. And now I understand where it is coming from.
the entire length of the path that holds the glass tube is rubberized (of some sort, perhaps silicon). Only at the very bottom of that path does a bit of steel show where the path diverges at a right angle to the oven.
if you have a macro focus lens and can illuminate the path where the pyrex tube goes, check it out.
isn't the selling point of glass to have a clean flavor?

Hi all
New to the forum

I've had the Flowermate v5.0s for about 5 months now and it's been a life changer for me in terms of use and value for money,it's not the greatest vape ever but it is good,so I thought I would get the 8 as it was a bargain at massdrop.

Got to say it's a nice looking vape and it will be my home vape while I use the 5 when I'm out and about.
But I have done a lot more burn ins than I ever did with the 5 and I can't seem to get rid of that smell it has.
It's not that rubber seal at the top of the chamber is it? Flavour is very important to me and this taste is bugging me,I really hope it eventually goes.

Bloody hell my first post and it's a bit of a moan.

Mr. H,
I believe that the rubber rim that we see at the top surrounding the hole (which may or may not be the same as the rbber cap?) Extends down to the bottom of the tube and accounts for the smell/taste.

Yes I cannot get a decent look inside but I can see from the mouthpiece to a third of the way down the unit then it changes into some other surface possibly metal it's something shinier or lighter in colour on mine.

Here is the image I was able to get down the vapor path of my unit. I too have a "seam" about a third of the way down, but the lining continues from there and seems to be the same material as that at the top third continues down and at the bottom of the path over to the silver opening that leads off to the oven. That bit is steel, I hope.
I've gently poked at the material with a bamboo skewer all down the length, at the ridge that can be seen along the bottom, and at the very bottom of the cup that you see in this picture. the sides are slick but they and especially the bottom have as much rubbery give as the black edge that you see at the top of the pathway, where you can reach with your fingernail to pull out the glass straw.
My unit without a doubt has some sort of rubber-like lining along the entire airway that is visible here, to the point where it takes a right turn off toward the oven.

Don't worry too much, this is food grade silicone. But in the first design there were telescoping glass straws, so the vapor was less exposed to it. They told me the tube at the bottom is stainless steel but I kinda hoped they would have replaced the entire tunnel with that material, as it's more inert and easier to clean.

For my own use, and at the price I paid for it via MD I am not upset. It's a gorgeous device that works extremely well (other than that nasty taste, which remains two days later after constant burn off, multiple attempts to infuse the silicon with a strong tea that I vape, and regular use).
I have a few other portable vaporizers that have about the same price point, work well, and that I will certainly recommend over the V8 if asked.

It certainly a learning experience, for us as consumers; and hopefully for Smiss as well, for an excellence in their product line.

I am "hoot"ing, and rooting, for their next "Air"- like product!

The V8 is a hard one to burn in. I tried several 5 min cycles on the highest temp and the smell did not get much better. The only way to get it hot enough is to open the oven door and blow the hot air out of the bowl. After several cycles of blowing the smell was low enough I was willing to try some weed. The 1st bowl was had a slight taste but the 2nd was not bad, and by the 3rd I could not detect any smell or taste.

Still trying to figure the best temperature to use. Tried the same temp increments that I like with the Solo and found that 10 degrees hotter on the V8 is about equivalent. The highest V8 temp is supposed to be 20 degree hotter then Solo level 7 but judging from the AVB I don't think it gets quite as hot. The V8 ABV after baking at 230 C is a dark brown which turns to dust when crushed. The 2014 Solo level 7 ABV is black.

Overall I like the Solo better for home use mainly just for how it fits in my hand and the larger glass mouthpiece is less restricted and tasty, but the V8 is more portable since the glass stem stores inside so you can just throw it in a bag or glove box and not worry. The V8 has a longer vapor path which cools the vapor way more then the Solo, but I prefer the taste of the warm Solo vapor better. 5 minutes timeout is too short but 1 press of a button gets you 5 min more so it is not a deal breaker and the quicker heat up time helps alot. This might change as I use it more since I have only used it for a couple days.

My AVB looks way darker. The more I develope my V8 technique the better it gets. I think the very cool vapor is harder to taste so you need to keep tokin at high temp till your AVB gets fully extracted. It is easy to swing the door open, stir the bowl and look at the AVB to see how it is doing.

When I have an extention tube on my Solo I have the same problem of not being able to detect the burnt popcorn taste so I know by taste when I have fully extracted all the good stuff out.
