Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I really am starting to like my ascent. It's great for on the road. Big bowl so you can sip on it for 20 mins. Not the best for the pocket but great for hitting in the car during my break. I love my mighty but the bowl size is too small.

I enjoyed my Ascent a lot the last few weeks, the only annoyance I had with it is getting bits of herb into my mouth but that was quickly resolved
I've never been a fan of glass screens and prefer a fine metal one but couldn't get one to properly fit over the bottom of the stem and I didn't want to put one on my load each time.

Apologies if this was already mentioned, I was not able to find a mentioned of this using the search
I've taken the screen from a spare glass lined PnP mouthpiece I had laying around, it's a perfect fit for the top of the Ascent stem.
I will still get some plant matter in the Glass tube so I'll have to clean it so the Airflow doesn't get restricted but I don't think it's a lot more than most vapes with a screen
I imagine this can be made yourself using the correct size screen and doming it, it just seemed impossible for me to get it domed and going in properly, these screens were a perfect fit

And @Ratchett, great work on the docking station, it makes using this vape even better

So I rethought my top screen bowl, and moved right below the glass screen.

Used a 3/4" extra fine mesh screen and cut it out into an oval, about 1/8" bigger than the glass filter's circumference.

Bent it around the edges and stuck it in, and not one bit of finely ground herbs has gotten into either stem.

Interesting idea. I'd be a little concerned closing and more importantly opening the door. If that screen got caught up in the seal area it's gonna win against the rubber?

@mixchu69 I enjoy both types of mouthpieces. I have been using the WonG more the last few months. I don't even use the stock stems anymore.

The Ascent is a very nice portable that has great vapor flavor. Davinci is coming out with a lot of different styles to choose from. It's a very beautiful unit in person too. Best of all it medicates sooo well.

@OF,

That was also a concern of mine.
There is approximately 3mm clearance between the metal and the top of the bowl.
You can see in the pic that the screen is recessed.
I have OCD and I quintuple check everything at times (usually triple check).
That screen is in there as snug as a nug getting a hug from a pug wrapped up in a rug.

However, because of your observation, I will implement one of the following countermeasuress to ensure that the screen stays put.

1) Stitch the metal screen to the glass filter (through the holes, might have to bore out the holes on the glass stem) using hemp thread.

OR

2) Use ultra thin gauge stainless steel wire and put make weave it in there between the screen and glass stem holes.

Thanks for the feedback.

This is why I love FC!!!

BTW, @CarolKing , hello, been a while, nice to see you in here. Hope all is well.

I hope you have a few spare inner glass stems! Those suckers can fall apart in your hands without any effort.

You might want to consider a set of wood stems from @Ed's TnT - if I'm not mistaken his inner stem can replace the glass filter stem. AND it has a SS screen installed for better filtering of debris

@Ratchett,

Thanks for the heads up.

I have many stems on hand.

Well to be fair, it was an ISO soak for like 3 weeks straight in 91%, but yes, it shouldn't crumble apart simply while rinsing off the ISO in a sink with lukewarm tap water!

Here is a screen in the upper chamber of the Ascent. I have it wedged inside. Easy enough to get out. It above the door.

Do you use your WonG without a inner stem, or is there an inner wooden Ed's TNT stem underneath that screen?
I will give Ed's mouthpieces a shot regardless, I'm very pleased with the solo stem I got from him too and often quite like the wooden aftertaste

I can recall people complaining that they would crumble after an ISO soak... WTF?

That's not entirely accurate. Has nothing to do with the soak (or ISO) per se. In my experience, has more to do with what one does *during* the soak (or any handling).

The flaired glass part is really thin, and, as such is fairly fragile. I had a friend making hot coco, who was getting the reclaim by stirring the stem in the cup, lightly hit the side and it broke. I was using one as a tamping tool early on, and had the edge "crumble" on me. Someone else here shook a plastic container they were soaking in, and broke the stem. So it's more of an issue of how one handles the stems, and when are you doing the most handling? Cleaning.

Once the stems are back in the body, they are really well protected. (Unless, of course: Abuse. Or once I managed to push the inner stem down a bit while the unit was closed, and then tried to open it, cracking the exposed stem, but that's user error.) But when they are out of the unit, you just have to be mindful. I haven't broken one since.

(Although that doesn't stop me from breaking the glass flowers... good thing I have hundreds. :) )

I agree. When I went to school glass didn't degrade in alcohol. In fact it's stored and shipped in glass for just that reason (to keep it chemically pure).

OTOH, when you're fiddling around with it, outside the protection of the Ascent, that's when the highest risk is I think? In addition to all else, it's likely to be slippery then as well......

Plastics can, of course, be a problem here, but AFAIK glass is inert WRT ISO.

I should retract that statement that I made about glass crumbling.

Done!

Naw, good discussion followed. At least I think it was informative......

OF

@OF, very true, good discussion did follow which was definitely informative.

This DA thread is awesome!

@OF, do you know how to turn my ABV into gold? or silver?
If so, please let me know so I can have a perpetual stash of fresh greens --> ABV --> Precious metal --> money --> fresh greens
JK, this was just a dickhead way of me of saying that you are a very informative and helpful person!
Thank you!

We learn from suffering and pain is my master - and this can be applicate to vape :

I broke my inside glass stem (and some others stuffs) and I was really dissapointed as it's was my last one. Drop a hot joint in your couch or some hash pellets on your T-Shirt are small issues finally. Vape is dangerous Business !

As you can see I got two large cracks in place of the four tiny holes.
I tried it ("the dirty one") as my last resort and I was well surprise. This really increase the airflow (but decrease the flavour/taste at the same time). And fucking easy to clean now. I just prudently push a cotton soak of alcool with an untwisted paper clip. My biggest concern at this moment is the wood stem (I order a set from Ed's TnT). It's gonna work the same way ?

Anyway, this fact is well know for many of yours but I must make my own learning. So apologize if I try to have a bit of fun sharing some newbie's thoughts.

Best Regards, FuFu.

"We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." (Romans 5:3-4)

Ps: Kind of obvious as well but avoid to use metal against glass. Your fingers or any wood/plastic tool is always better. So don't do stupid thing like try to remove the stem with the METAL tool Davinci gently give to us (Yeah I DID IT, but don't blame me it's my first vape). This one is just for unload your herbs.

Edit : Regarding the small herb pieces going in my mouth I just drop few glass flower on the top of the chamber. Fix it well for me ! I don't use metal screen anymore.

There is a difference between the glass and the wood stem taste wise. When you get the wood it has an earthy taste until it's seasoned from your herb. Then the wood takes on the taste of the cannabis that you are using. I like either one. I think it comes down to personal preference. It's ideal to have both.

IMO the WonG or GonG work better in my unit that I have. My Ascent is over a year old.

Well... I have not been following this thread for a while. I just wanted to let anyone know who may be following, that I received a replacement Ascent today. I was surprised to see the US mail on a Sunday. It has been around 3 weeks (I think) since I sent my unit in for inspection. It appears that DaVinci went all out & sent me a new first quality unit, plus new glass. I was not expecting the glass, so that was a pleasant surprise. I have the unit charging now & have not messed with it other than to plug it in.

Is there any special break in procedures that you guys have discovered?

Or just plug it in for 5 hours & use it?

Thank you DaVinci & everyone who was involved.

Hey Ratchett,

Are the wooden stems from eds safe to ISO? I remember carolking recommending it. I'm deciding on glass or wood. Will the wooden stem taste good when using with water. I have been brainwashed about glass.

This device is so underrated. I think people got a bad batch. But the taste is awesome, good vapor production, and great battery life. Compared to my mighty, I like the bigger bowl size. The mighty is awesome too.
