Discontinued VapeXhale Cloud EVO

In search of the best terps and smoothest vapor
The top is mainly reclaim/caked reclaim and can be easily scraped with ISO and some wooden skewer sticks.
The bottom residue builds every dab. The only way I can clean it is to burn it off every dab. Otherwise it tastes like nasty residue on the next dab.
The max I can handle is 2 in a row without burn off. 3rd is just too nasty.

how is it practical to use PBW for the bottom nail residue after every dab?
If I've only got 2 nails I've got to wait 2 days to do 2 more dabs?
Theres got to be a better way!

A wicking system, like ceramic disc or fritted disc or metal wool would be some options...
I should clarify. I do a burn off after every dab. The PBW wash is after several dabs. Using too much concentrate or poor quality definitively gunks it up fast.

I am the Vapor King--I can do anything
For the past few weeks I've been using an electrical grinder for my grinding needs. Instead of taking a primer hit to get things rolling, my first hit is a milker. It takes fewer hits to finish a bowl and you can pack (place) more into the ELB without sacrificing airflow. Also as someone with a high tolerance, it makes the task of vaping a little faster (I feel bad for calling vaping a task, but sometimes it is and being able to do it faster sometimes is a great ability).

Certainly I'm losing some percentage of 'goodness' to oxidation, sometimes I even see a little bit of vapor escape when I pull the lid off after grinding. Despite this Ive still been using the coffee grinder method 'cause I love all that surface area:science:, I definitely recommend others trying this for a couple days and reporting back.

My procedure for cleaning the VXN's is I put them in an ultrasonic cleaner with hot tap water and 1-2 tsp of PBW. Then I run it on several 8 minute cycles sometimes leaving them soaking over night if I forget. Next I rinse them with hot water and use a 0.5" cleaning brush which usually gets the hardened bits off and finally a brief ISO wash to get any PBW residue off. I can usually get them completely spotless with this method, if not another run through will do it.

I found Enchantre's VXN method of turning off the heater when it goes red helps a lot to prevent the waxes and whatnot from creeping up the nail and soiling it. When I switched to turning the heater off I got a lot more reuse out of my nails before needing to clean them again.

This way sounds really confusing and I would probably screw it up.

Edit: Realized your talking about the nail and not the unit.

I clean my VXLs by putting them in a small pan with enough cool water to cover them well (w/ about a half inch extra or so). I bring that to a near boil over a gas range and then turn down the heat to it's lowest simmer and add 1/2 tsp or so of PBW. With the quartz nails I feel it's OK to bring them to a near boil and maybe even a low boil for a short time. After 30 minutes or so on simmer, I scrape gently with a bamboo skewer and they come really clean. Add a bit of PBW, maybe slightly more heat for a short burst, and another hour of soaking on simmer, followed by a last scrape. I then take them out of the water and let air cool before rinsing with warm and then cool water. With care, this goes really well.

Any reason not to do this?

With my Cloud EVO, I picked up a Santa Cruz Shredder after reading a ton of positive feedback from various vaporists with this particular grinder. Mine is 2.75" diameter, and it produces perfect consistency fill for joints. The EVO seems to be happy with it, but sometimes I wonder if I got too big a model because my grind isn't very fine, does the Small have any finer of grind?
I use the SCS "Mini", which is the smallest size. The grind isn't that fine IMO; somewhat fine but still pretty fluffy. Definitely not dust- or sand-like.

I'm very satisfied with the vapor and the effects, but I think I'll pick up the wooden finishing grinder as well and see if I notice any changes with a finer grind.

You could push it (rub it) through a coarse strainer into a ceramic bowl: I've had good luck with that.

Many thanks for the info. I'm sending mine in today and feel a LOT better about it after your replies.
Well, it’s been a long, strange trip to get my Cloud EVO serviced. Not something I’d want to go through again, though I have to stress the VapeXhale folks were great.

To briefly recap, I was experiencing problems with a cracked bamboo and wonky power switch. Customer service had me send in my unit for inspection and repair.

I fed-exed my unit to in on November 1st. They received it on the 4th, took a few days to repair the device -- at no cost to me, thankfully -- and mailed it back.

That’s when the trouble began. My package made it to my city... then disappeared. Even worse, when VapeXhale contacted them, USPS refused to admit the package was lost. Instead, they gave some BS excuse about how my address doesn’t exist!

Well, VapeXhale was great about it. After it became clear USPS was giving us the run around, they shipped me a brand new Cloud EVO at no cost.

It was definitely a bummer being without my unit for nearly a month. However, I can’t say enough positive things about the customer service at VapeXhale. They stood behind their product and made an excruciating experience bearable.

Wow, what a shitty situation with USPS. Very glad to hear VXL had your back and stood behind their product.

I wouldn't be shocked if the missing EVO shows up at your door sometime after January. Pretty sure they'll finish construction on your non-existent address by then ;)

And who knows, VXL might be bosses about it and let you keep the other one for the trouble. Or not, but it's worth hoping!

What's the best way to clean inside the bamboo? There was a piece that must have gotten out from the screen that fell into the bamboo which caused it to start on fire and had to scrape it out but I would like to make sure it is clean. I really don't want to break an expensive vape like this and be vapeless while it gets repaired.

With a couple small corks purchased at the local ACE, I plug the bottom of the bamboo and then with a funnel very carefully pour 91% ISO into the top joint to fill the bamboo up to the base of the joint. I cork the top, shake gently, and let sit overnight. (While you can clean the lower section of the bamboo with just ISO and a q-tip, you can't get to the middle section of the bamboo because the "glass washer" orifices are too narrow.) when finished soaking, pull the cork, drain, and then thoroughly rinse with water. Let the residual liquid evaporate, turn EVO on warm to finish that process, and you're good to go.

There are other methods posted in this (or the preceding) thread.

How does washing it not ruin the vape?

How does washing it not ruin the vape?

The glass bamboo is sealed except for the inlet and outlet at the top and bottom of the vape. As long as you're careful to only pour ISO into the bamboo, no need to worry. Now if your bamboo is cracked, you just ruined the EVO. But, if the bamboo was cracked, you'd know and it would be in VXL's shop getting repaired!

So the heater won't be ruined? Does VXL have any instructions on how to clean it?

Have you ever had your EVO on max for a bit, and when turned off, you can see a red glow down in the bamboo? That's where the heater is. But it's wrapped OUTSIDE of the glass (hence the all glass airpath). It's about as far down as the bottom of a VXNail.

As long as your EVO's bamboo is intact (which it is if you're using it, you'd get combustion every time if your bamboo was cracked), ISO/water/ANY liquid will have no impact on the heater or electronics.

SO LONG AS YOU ONLY GET THEM IN THE BAMBOO.

You have to be careful, if you slip and pour ISO on the top of your EVO outside of the bamboo, you could be in some serious trouble. Which is why VXL doesn't give instructions on how to do it. Far too risky for the average consumer imo. Plenty of people would ruin their vapes and blame VXL. It's something for the power/experienced user to undertake at their own discretion.

I've only cleaned mine once, and that was after attempting to vape some DMT out of a VXNail. Had to get that spice taste out of the EVO!

I didn't think to mention that before cleaning per above, good to check that the bamboo is sound. Just plug the bottom tightly with a finger and try to take a draw. If air comes through even though the bottom is fully sealed off, there is probably a crack.

I've cleaned mine only twice (and I have one of the first units). This is not a regular maintenance requirement.

Btw, the heater wraps the outside of the bamboo at the middle section between the orifices, which you can see looking down from the top. Aside from a break in the bamboo, there is no way for anything to get into the electronics.

Spilling a couple drops of liquid down the top air vents could be a problem, or not: There is a plate beneath the vents that spans the diameter of the unit to protect that section, and another plate that separates the bottom section where the electronics are located. Obviously, more than a little could make its way down despite the protection. As I type this, I remember that I used a small funnel the first time; the last time I used an eye-dropper which worked perfectly.

Ok that makes sense thank you for your very detailed answer. I just wanted to make sure I knew everything and all of the risks before I attempted it. And it's really not that dirty there is just a few little dark specs on top of the bamboo.

At that point, what I'd do is simply dip a Q-tip in some ISO, and just wipe it down with the Q-tip. Much easier, and no need to go through the extreme of soaking the bamboo if there's not a need. Like @oldiebutgoodie said, definitely not a regular maintenance thing.

Good call on the caps @Sinclue! Hadn't thought about that. Didn't even consider the caps would be a tight enough fit.

Can anyone point me to detailed specs on the vapexnail glass measurements/thickness depth, etc? I have a local glassblower who said he would be willing to experiment with making me some as I broke the original 2 already and threw them out before I realized they could still be of value for this very purpose.

The VXL people taught me a real easy way to confirm if your bamboo is cracked. With the unit off, cover the bottom hole with your finger and blow into the top. It should be airtight. If any air escapes, your bamboo may be cracked.

if i took my reclaim from the HT using Iso/Everclear and melted it down in some warm milk would the results be similar to that of cleaning a Solo stem in milk?

Enjoy your ISO flavored bong resin hot chocolate I guess :puke:

When my bamboo got dirty I just had it replaced by vapexhale. My Evo had started smelling nasty and I didn't want to pour stuff inside my Evo. Vapexhale did it for free although I didn't like how it started smelling up and I couldn't clean it all myself.
