Discontinued The Okin by D.M. Pipes

Yeah I wasn't keen on thsoe two either... but with the bronze springs on the tip it kind of looks like a squid... and the salamander is associated with lots of fire myths..

Hmm, what about the Emboracle? Ember and Oracle put together.. maybe Embora is tidier though.. Plus, the D.M. Embora has a nice ring to it..

I like Embora and Emberwood.

Shame the Firewood is taken, as I think that would fit nicely if not perfectly.

The Campfire.

Here's a peak at the patina as it is now, it will develop a bit more, and get a tad darker. It's coming out nicely though!

I've slept on it and I think I agree. Plus.. since the vaporizer is essentially shaped like a line and the case will be a circle. Side by side it will look exactly like an Ō, more or less... That makes for some interesting marketing graphics I think...

Here's what it looks like with the bronze springs attached. I'm just testing out this bamboo stem, but I do like the organic feel to it!

I filed off the screw heads, and it looks MUCH better, so that's how I'm going to do it.

Next I'll fit the screens and finish the stem to length, adding an African blackwood tip for the mouthpiece. Then I'll have some photos of it in use!

This is a truly awesome product, I am really excited to see come to market. I would love to see you experimenting with other woods for the stem, bamboo reminds me so much of Ikea furniture;)

Nice! Looking forward to seeing the action photos and hoping for some dense clouds...

I'm curious... will the inside of the herb chamber be smooth shiny metal or will it also have the patina? Looking at these latest pics it seems like interior and exterior are the same color...

Thanks for the comments!! I am really enjoying this process of development, getting feedback as I go.

I'll make a couple different stems and see which one feels the best... I may consider a couple different stem options that you could choose, but..generally I like to distill my ideas down to a single object with a clear focus... so we will see..

High quality is definitely appreciated by me in a world of thousands of crappy Chinese clones.

Amen!

The inside will be polished steel, I'll fill the tube with wax to protect it during the patina process. This prototype got a patina on the inside, but it's been sanded down to almost bare metal, a bit of black oxide remains, but that is fine with me. This patina method is similar to the finishes used in gunsmithing. You could call this browning, but if you went a step or two further you could call it rust bluing, which gives you a black oxide surface finish.

Very beautiful, and very impressive work. I am extremely intrigued and excited by this. Thank you for posting your progress, along with the hurdles and challenges! I feel like that is where I learn the most. Keep up the great work!

Avidly watching the the development of you new creation with baited breath

I'd like to ask.... Do you have another site with completed pipes for sale ? as it seems there is always nothing available  I've been searching for something exotic for a dear friend (as well as one for myself), that can be used as a thin stemmed small bowl kief pipe to haze a flame over ? And for myself to also use 'specialty' pipe tobaccos in (YES, I still combust hashes frequently and want to switch to small pipe tobaccos and get off these fucking garbage cigarettes !!)

ps: Vape purists ... pls keep your opinions to yourself :p I'm an adult after all

Ah yes... my pipe website is in serious need of an update, I let the blog section take up my time as of late... I stopped making pipes for public sale a while ago, they are usually snatched up by people who see the progress work posted, or go to customers who have been waiting for a certain design to come up...

And, I like that style of pipe you're suggesting. But, for now, I am focusing solely on the Ōkin project. Which, unfortunately means turning down potential pipe orders..

Also, if you're not already aware, order some Kizami from Japan, it's very finely chopped tobacco that is smoked in kiseru pipes, small bowl, long thin stem. Its the best small bowl tobacco I've tried, better than DRUM, or regular pipe tobaccos that are suited more for a larger bowl, and different lighting method.

It's very nicotine heavy, it's like crack tobacco, hah.
