Vapman

vaporonly

living in a van down by the river
Here is an image of a vapman that was improperly heated on the mica, gold tubes, and clamps. It is easy to see where the user was focusing their torch. I thought the image of the damage was interesting and helpful to show. Could have been much worse.

It is almost a given this poor chap watched the infamous vapman youtube video for instruction. :worms:

Do you think there is damage beyond the wood being scorched?

Well, @$unnyblaq I am jealous of your scorched Vapman! I wish my scorched Vapman was as dark and had the rich wood grain yours does. After sanding and torching my vapman I brushed and Linseed oiled it. Your Vapman got torched, brushed, torched again, then brushed once again. Up until about two weeks ago If my Vapman got really hot I could still smell a faint odor of Linseed oil. On you Vapman I applied an extra light coat of Beeswax / Hemp seed oil. I used such a light coat of oil on your Vapman after a few hours I heated it up went to wipe it down and no oil even came off! The next time I scorch a Vapman I'm doing it the exact same way I did yours!
Since this is my Christmas gift for you I'm trusting you won't open it till the 25th:lol:!

Sorry it got late and I didn't have time to get pics. of my "Magic flight / Vapman water pipe adapter", I'll try to get to it tomorrow.

Happy Vaping!

Never used underbutter. But I'm very cautious over oiling or over waxing the Vapman. After the first initial coat of Linseed oil on my Vapman I don't know if I want to use oils, waxes, or butters ever again.

Both look very nice though! I can't decide which stem looks better?
What's your thoughts on different black stems?

@vapman your table top sounds so much like the Aromed, seeing the vapor swirl above the herb is very nice! I do have another question regarding the glass. If broken how easy could it be replaced? And is it borosilicate glass? Aromed uses the magic glass borosilicate and it seems sturdy. Lastly, how much would one of these run me in the US?

The herb chamber, the glass covering the halogen bulb, mouthpiece and the glass at the end of the silicone hose are all made of borosilicate glass. The water filter glass is a standard whiskey glass with a lid made of acryl glass. Are you asking how much the glass wear or the entire vaporizer costs? For questions concerning particular sales and prices, please get in contact with us by email (mail@element-medical.ch) as I don`t want to use this thread for doing business in any way.
Thank you.:)

Have you considered doing something acrylic like MFLB ships stock? A little tougher than glass, I don't know how that would factor into manufacturing but I enjoyed my acrylic for the MFLB.

To be honest, I never considered an acrylic mouthpiece, I like our pom plastc mouthpiece a lot, it is probably the best plastc to use for mouthpieces. It can be boiled in water and cleaned with almost any solvents, even acetone. Furthermore it is extremely sturdy and ever lasting, these are to me the most important points a mouthpiece has to fulfill. Good thing the mouthpieces from MFBL fit vapman and vice versa, there is no need to copy their mouthpiece in any way. BTW, I know Forest from MFLB personally,
he is one of the smartest guys I evere met in my whole life and he liked vapman, this is a great honor for me!

@vapman - The shot glass trick you were talking about... Is it what the guy does in this video with the bigger glass?

I wasn`t talking about a glass shot trick, just vapor swirling in the whiskey glass, that`s all.
I will try to do a short video this week without any cleavage.;)

@vapman has recommended not to heat those holes. It is recommended to only heat the apex of the gold bowl. Also, the vapman is a conduction vaporizer. There may be a slight effect of convection when using the concentrate screen but that is all.

Also, the bowl is not brass it is gold plated copper. :peace:

Yes, very true what @steama states here: Never ever direct the flame to the air nozzles, directing the flame to the apex of the bowl is perfect and heats up the air nozzles as well.:nod:Keep in mind, copper is after silver the best heat conducter you can find, when directing the flame to the apex (that is where the biggest mass is) the entire bowl gets hot instantly. Vapman would not work with a steel bowl for instance, hard to believe but it is true.

I am sure that vapman still works but don't know how deep the damage. The best person to evaluate this kind of damage is @vapman himself.

As long the wood is firmly holding the three screws of the bowl, this vapman can still be used, amazing but true. Vapman is a work horse.:)

Hi,
I'm having hard time to judge whether I'm done or not. So currently, I check the color of the herb every once in a while.
How do you know when you're done?
i am looking into the bowl if there is no green all "roasted coffe brown" its more or less done... if you have black spots in your abv (you cought hard) then you maybe combusted thats not good...
I still open the chamber and check the colour of the herb every five hits or so.
On average how many hits do you get per bowl. I feel as if I get 5-10. I don't go for huge clouds but i do get nice vapor.

I go until the vapor starts to taste crappy. Then I check to see how my herb looks.

But this brings up a good point. How far do you take your herb?

Here is my nice little morning session.
A nice full (not over packed) bowl.

And a little loose "topper" of a bowl to get me just right. I took this one a little further than the first.
You also may notice I use the screen in my Vapman. I've been trying to conserve the herb and lower my tolerance level.

Wow, the wood around and I suppose under the bowl as well looks like charcoal, very burnt... Is this the nature of every basic Vapman? I am almost ready to finally pull the trigger on one of those cuties to use as a back up for the Crafty and for those no-electricity nights we usually have in the winter.
What are the best deals around this time of the year?

i just tried some of magic flight's balancing bleus blend in the vapman just for fun. it didn't fail the test. :) it's a pleasant tasty experience, when one wants to play with the vm, but doesn't want to get carried away by using the real medicine. :)

Some go for a charred look and purposely char the entire unit. It should not look like that unless you want it to. Basic pear can be had at vapornation with fc16 fr 16% off
I have seen the charring process but those cracks around the bowl look like over charring in my eyes... I wouldn't want my basic to look like this after a while. I know it won't affect usage but still...

That's what mine looks like. That's why I moved to the mica.

Do you still use your non-mica Vapman? Has the "charcoal" continued to spread or did it get to a point then stop?

Like I said mine hasn't gotten any worse in a while. I'm curios to see what it will look like a year from now.

Sorry, when I got the mica, I passed the non-mica to a friend. I don't think she's using it because of how loud the torch is.

I think it looks a lot more pronounced in the pictures then in person, the vapman is so tiny in the hand that the scorched area is pretty small and well hidden.

But if you don't like the charring around the bowl I would go with a Classic since thats the reason for the mica as @Mr Mellish pointed out the basic isn't for everyone. Some people I've shared mine with can't stand the idea of the wood scorching or charring at all and would never own the basic but the classic is made for them ... actually i think the classic was the original product with the basic being offered a few years later mainly because people were asking for them.

I still believe the Classic is fully worth the price tag, having to live with the charring on the basic is what saves you those few Bucks.

I think @RUDE BOY is mostly correct...it IS just the inside, up around the bowl. However, mine is very noticeable if you're looking at it through the bottom. Looks like timber that has been through a house fire. I'm not a terribly emotional person but the first shocked glimpse made me want to cry.

I think this one is a bit more charred that what I would expect. If you go back and look at my charred Vapmans I don't go that far - Especially on the outside. On the outside I just char it enough to darken it. The Peach Tree wood looks a very dark brown, but not completely black.

But to each his own...

Here are some examples. This Vapman is over a year old. The only reason the inside of the Bowl looks a bit ugly is because I sanded it. But notice that there is no charcoal looking wood anywhere.

In person you can see the wood grain under the darkened wood.

If I remember right, Mr Mellish used a huge-ass lighter on his and cooked the inside of the ring - around the bowl/crucible...
