Herb Grinders

Sure, though I'll have absolutely nothing to base my review on, having never used or even seen a grinder in person before. :) I'm not sure what the point of the double screen is (I assume I get kief on the bottom, small mj next up, and larger pieces next? What do I do with the various sized pieces?). But the grinder looked to be the size I wanted and I figured worst case, I can take one of the screens out and more herb can be stored in that section.

The screens will filter kief, and you can use one or both. A nice option.

I think I'm going to give electric grinders a try, my only concern is how well does it do with sticky HQ herb, will it clog or will it still turn it to powder? Seems like a ton less work with possibly better results for the same amount or money. The more I see comments from owners who use electric they all seem to be positive on them. I just figure they would clog with sticky so I never really thought it through, since most coffee is on the more dry side compared to herb. I'm damn sure ready to spend $20 if I can load it tap the button a few times and I got really fine ground up herb, I'm there. Any one use with Sticky HQ Herbs.

get a cheap $10 coffee grinder... best bang for your buck

i have heard that some trichomes tend to collect in corners in coffee grinders.... so u can scrape it out and vape it if it builds up too much :D

one of the hash making techniques i saw on youtube the guy just toosed it in a coffee grinder, dumped it out and scraped the grinder.... he must have been using some top shelf dank on that

I'm a Mendo man. Have been for years... I have a 2.5, maybe 3in (Can't remember, too lazy too measure, but its exact width of a normal bic) one and it's still going strong. The kief production and grind is superb.

If you want to read a review on Mendo I wrote you can check it out here.

hi all,
my post will be a bit promotional as i do work at mixnball over the last 5 years but i must say one thing about the guys at mixnball; they do take in consideration the health aspect and uses an organic coating on their herb and pollen grinders. there is loads of info about toxins on their site so you are welcome in to read about it.
as for pricing, they are not cheap, but not expansive as well. store.mixnball.com

personally, im going to go to walmart or something and get a coffee grinder, if i decide to get a grinder at all
the vaporstar video has inspired me, and had a really good idea, he loaded up a whole bud, took some hits, and took the bud out when it was cracker dry, crushed it, then put it back in

i think this could work for pretty much any vape

When I was using the herbalAire and Vapolution, I didn't a grinder at all. Those two do much better with pieces of herb vs. ground. Now that I'm using the SSV and PD (and my Vaporstar to some extent), I grind all the time and I'm having a ball producing kief and using it when I like. The PD, in particular, requires the herb to be ground by some means.

I'm a big fan of Mix'n'Ball grinders. They are excellent quality and I love the annodized finish. I've corresponded with the owner quite a bit concerning feedback on new and upcoming products. I think the 'Classic Screen' at $30 and the two piece 'Classic' at $16.50 are great buys. The Double and Triple Screen models let you use multiple screens or your choice of screen size-fun to play around with. And although the 5 yr. warranty is not likely to be needed, it's nice to have. I bought a TrueBlendz grinder a while back that was defective (top teeth were scraping the finish off the bottom grinder section), and had to pay a $6 restocking fee (plus return shipping) to get a refund. I was pissed, to put it mildly. Needless to say, I'll NEVER BUY A TRUEBLENDZ GRINDER again.

I think something similar may be happening to me...one of the first things I did after picking up my PD was get a Mendo Mulcher. I got the 3in flat griner, the one without any kief collection. I've been having this problem constantly since day one...I seem to get little shavings of metal in my ground bud. I also get "stained hands" from using the MM...it is like a metallic powder or film on my fingers...not good :uhoh: I was actually thinking of taking some pictures and brining them to this thread, but I got side tracked and the MM got tucked into a drawer and I've basically forgotten about it. I should have done something about this, but it all happened at a time when I was unbelievably busy so I didn't really have time to start an inquiry into just what was going on... Sadly, I'm not the type of guy to go after a "refund" for something like this either, I'll probably just tuck the MM away and chalk it up as experience... It's a real shame though, because if it weren't for this ONE thing (a BIG one thing, mind you), I would be totally in love with this grinder. I love everything else about it...and it really does work great at providing an even grind.

I've been looking at Mix N' Ball lately as well, actually...I think the major problem with the MM is it doesn't seem to have any real type of "finish" on the inside...hence why there is metal flaking? Anyways, I've simply gone back to using a coffee grinder, for the moment...it's always worked from me. Just have to have a delicate trigger finger: real easy to end up with Cannabis flour all too quickly...

Did you wash/rinse your grinder before using?

Doesn't matter who you order from, but you should always do that. Warm water, soap and a tooth brush. Metal shavings and oils from the machines are usually leftover.

Ya Spiral, I did give it a good scrub. I've even given it a very thorough cleaning with ISO after a couple weeks of usage, and got the whole thing looking brand new again...but yeah, same thing. I have the flat grinder and tend to use it to pulverize the buds instead of a "light grind", so maybe I'm using too much force. It's simply one of those things I don't want to have to worry about...rather, I shouldn't have to worry about. The MM is nice, and if I could get it to stop flaking I'd be using it every day...but for right now the coffee grinder does the trick for me. I have one dedicated to Canna, and it's not failed me yet...like I said though, it's very easy to grind too much. Not much fun trying to vaporize Cannabis flour...that finds its way through the screen pretty damned easy :(

I have the big 3" Mendo with screen, and haven't had a problem with it, but I don't like the design. There's room between the grommet and the screen where fine ground and kief can hide, and the threads in the screen section are a nuisance when removing ground bud. The teeth, being very numerous (88 total, I think), are closer together than with other grinders, forcing you to either load really small pieces in between the teeth, or use bigger pieces and squash them as you grind, which I don't like to do. So as good a shredder as the Mendo is, I don't care for it, and mine is going up for eBay auction soon.

I've experienced the darkening of the fingers/hands from the finish that you're talking about pv, but not from the Mendo. I've got an eBay cheapie (although very good quality) that does that. I like to pass my stuff through it (after my initial MixnBall grind) for the PD, since the holes are about 2mm smaller than the norm. It makes me wonder if you've really got a genuine Mendo, between metal particles (never happened with mine) and the signs on your fingers of cheaper aluminum.

I dunno max, I was sort of questioning the same thing...everyone always seems to stand behind their Mendo, and my experience has been pretty blah since day one? I bought from the Mendo Mulcher Warehouse...so I would assume it's genuine?? It looks perfectly genuine and feels to be of good weight/quality, and it does the job quite well...but ya, flakes to high heaven. I don't think I could put this up for auction in good conscious, it really worries me to see those particles in there...maybe it doesn't end up doing any damage, but it's more than readily visible so that just send my stress level through the roof, and I don't need that...whether it's doing bodily damage or not, I know the stress it causes is!!

I really do love using the electric grinder at home, though...once you get a feel for it, you can chop as fine or as rough as you'd like, and it's always a consistent grind throughout the whole herb product. Not to mention that coffee mills are cheap as tits in Montreal. Maybe I should look into one of those portable, hand-held electric grinders...any one have any experience with those? I think Super Torch was asking the same thing, a while back...

I have to disagree with Max. I love my trueblendz I have a 3inch 4 piece. I have a half a dozen friends who all love there trueblends(assorted models). Did you grinder come with the washer? I have found if you try to use it with out the washer the top teeth do grind. As far as the New Mix n Ball grinders go well... I talked a buddy into buying one and He did and was nothing but unhappy. He got a 2 or 2.5 inch triple screen, the bottom that holds the pollen is not threaded on and is just held by two little magnets. Everyone who has picked it up and I do mean EVERYONE has knocked the bottom off. I don't know what the older ones were like I think they were threaded so I don't know why they changed the design but I will say that It is the worst design I have seen in a Grinder. I regret talking a friend into buying one. I will say that the Finish On them are really nice. Very anti stick.

You disagree that my TrueBlendz was defective? Seriously, you think I took a knife or screwdriver and ripped off the poly cushion that's between the top and bottom grinding sections? That thing is permanent. Without even applying pressure (I NEVER USED IT AT ALL TO GRIND ANYTHING) the top teeth stripped the finish off the floor of the bottom section. Even one of the owners at TrueBlendz told me 'it happens sometimes'. My attitude is 'screw a manufacturer that won't even stand behind a DOA product'. I didn't say all TrueBlendz products were bad, I just said mine was and I wouldn't think of ever buying another. They charged me a restocking fee for a defective DOA grinder. That should piss anyone off.

You want to hear about some good service? The kind TrueBlendz should have provided? Bought a $14 four piece grinder from Kelly's Great Products on eBay with $4.50 shipping. It was 2 3/8" diameter instead of the advertised 2.5", with slightly fewer than advertised # of teeth. He took it back, refunded my return shipping, and sent me a $40 all CNC made 2.5" grinder that's as well made as the Mendo I bought, and with a better screen/thread design (it also has a money back satisfaction guarantee). My other option was a full refund, including return shipping. Either choice-excellent service.

As for the bottom section on the Double and Triple Screen MixnBall grinders, the owner has given in to popular demand and will be getting (in about 2 weeks he says) screw on bottom pieces that will be available for only $5, just to cover shipping. If you use the current version (magnets on the bottom part) flat on a table there's no problem, but holding the grinder in your hand (which apparently a lot of people do) does make the bottom come off easily. This is one reason I said the Classic Screen, at $30, was a great deal. It has the screw on bottom, and most people are fine with a typical 285 micron screen. By the way, I've got the Triple Screen and have never knocked the bottom section off. You just have to be careful how you hold it (difficult for a stoned person I know), or use it with it sitting on something.

Tell your friend to watch the MixnBall site for the new screw on bottoms. Hell, I'll announce it on this thread when they're available. It's too good a grinder to toss away or give away in lieu of paying another $5. If he doesn't want to pay the fin for the new piece, ask him how much he wants for the grinder. I may buy it from him if the price is right.

I've heard you mention this Kelly's Great Products before, yet I can't find it? Got a link? :brow:

Or do they not ship to Canada? That may be why it doesn't show up on ebay.ca :p

I sent him an e about Canada shipping. If he doesn't, and you find something you like, let me know and I'll help you out.

Edit:

Response from Kelly:
"I do ship to Canada.
The S&H rates are exactly the same as to the US."

Thanks a lot max. See, that's what you get for being lazy. max does the leg work for you! Bwahaha
Now where did I put that french maid outfit...

I might end up getting a new grinder some time soon... I really don't want to give up on the MM yet though...I'm going to give it another really good wash and scrub, and I'll be using a very hard bristled brush this time, so I'll report back on what comes of that, I guess. I suppose that means I'll be sacrificing more buds to be "flaked"

It helps if there's something in it for me, even just satisfying my curiousity. ;)

If you're getting metal flaked off during grinding, I don't see how it's coming off when you grind plant material. The Mendo is not a grinder that's made of cheap, low-grade aluminum (unless they got a bad batch?). Seems like the problem would be from metal to metal contact and show up when grinding empty. Or have you eliminated that?

What I like about this Kelly guy's grinders if you own a PD, is that he has some available with smaller holes for the fine grind that works well in the small bowl. His $14, 2.5" size comes in 4,5, or 6mm hole size, and the 1 3/4" grinder has 3mm holes. I pass my PD herb through that one for a finer grind.

I'm sure you'll all scoff at my grinder, but I have a chroniumcrusher, and have been very happy with it. Just putting another option out there. I've used it a lot ina month, and no metal flakes. Has a great look, nice size holes for a medium/small grind, the screen has a nice size holes to it and woven nicely, catches keif nicely, the threads glide easily, and the ring to seperated the two top peices are teflon. :2c:

Max, I checked out Kelly's store...he's got a lot of cool shit. Did you have to ask him about the 3mm holes in the 1 3/4" grinder? I didn't see him putting this detail on any of his listings.

Thanks
