Living the vape life
New update:

"Hey Everyone,

We’ve made it to December, and we expect it to be an exciting month. We plan to have our first production units fully assembled before the New Year. The project has been progressing smoothly since our last update, and we’ve received a number of new parts.

First in were the revised Clips and Outer Snap Rings. As you saw in the photos provided by our manufacturer in the last update, the Clips are now very round. After verifying the dimensions and spring-back properties, we’ve determined that the Clip is now up to specification. In the October 15th update, we mentioned a problem with the snap ring that holds the Back End together. The new rings are made from Stainless 17-4 and the results are great. There is no longer any permanent deformation when the ring is installed. See photos of both below.

We also received the Pin Assembly and PCB Contact Rings. Both sets of parts are tiny and required extremely tight tolerancing to fit within the Grasshopper. The Pin Assembly consists of four parts that fit together to form a spring-loaded pin. The pin works to keep electrical contact when the Grasshopper is turned on. This is one of the few parts that we thought might be available off-the-shelf, but nothing had enough travel and spring force to do the job. The Pin is just 1.9mm (~1/16th in) in diameter and provides over 2 pounds of force.

The PCB Contact rings provide standoff contacts from the PCBs to the rest of the Grasshopper. This is necessary because of the Grasshopper’s cylindrical housing, and the need to make electrical contact between the battery, on/off switch, and body. Springs keep pressure applied to these rings and allow power to flow to the heater and electronics. Overall, we’re very pleased with this new batch of parts.

Our manufacturers have just informed us that they remain on schedule with the remainder of the parts. This includes the Hopper Bodies and Front Ends. We’re expecting to receive these before the 20th, and we’ll post images when they arrive. Our agent is making visits to the factories in order to ensure that the deadlines are being met.

The first Grasshoppers should be done soon, and we’re excited to share them with you. Check back on the 15th for another update.

I think I'm more excited about this update than any others. It really seems like they are getting very close to completed first units. Looking forward to those photos of the body and front end. I think that will ease some minds :spliff:

I'm assuming the titanium colored versions will not be part of the first batch :( damn me for wanting a grey one to be extra stealthy. Hopefully they won't take too long with those as it is just the outer shell parts.. Oh and that clip.. Damn those prob would have to be made as well in the other colors.. I hope mine is not pushed back too much after the standard silver units.

I went from early-bird ss to grey and finally changed to grasshopper green to match my smallest grinder.
I'm kinda wishing I kept the early-bird now, it would be interesting to compare and of course have one sooner. Even though it is delayed, all that ultimately matters is that everyone ends up satisfied.

Exzactly, one way to look at it is once they do get to the colored ones like ours are.. Any little tweaks or bugs might be fixed? Feedback would be given and they would make an adjustments to ours to resemble a more final/functional product.. I'm wishing on a star in that regard and I hope it comes true ;)

Been lurking on here since I Kickstarted the 'Hopper last year, and I figured I might as well register now that we seem to be nearing the home stretch!

Does anyone know if it's possible to tell what number your order is, either on the backer site or IndieGoGo? I'm trying to gauge whether I should be expecting mine in an early batch.

EDIT: The day when this thread is promoted from 'candidate' status will be a great one indeed.

Honestly the only reason I know my number is because I bought within the first 10 mins and got an early backer one, so I know I am around the 40th or so, don't think they put up a thing to see how close you are to being some of the first shipments beyond that, I might be wrong.

Is the 'spiral' heater a series of small tubes that spiral through a brass slug? Is it rifling on a central hole in brass? Combination of both?
