Alfa Vaporizer by goboof

I entered my bowls full and tight with pretty well grinned up herb, and got big hits from the Alfa on medium and high.

I start at Low to heat it up, take a couple hits, turn it up to medium, couple more, then high. I basically am doing what the A/P should do, haven't tried the auto modes though yet, or loosely packing it. Everywhere I read suggested to pack it tight otherwise it feels very weak.

P.S this thing is more portable and discreet than I imagined, it's great.

But a question!: The only other vape I have used is the MFLB, and I know that's a vape that you can just heat up and hit it, then leave it for later. With the Alfa, I heat it up, take 3-5 hits, then turn it off, and turn it on later when I am ready. It sounds like the Alfa is not intended for this?

If it works for you than it works for you.. Just with most conduction vapes the oven stays hot for a bit and cooks the bud even when not drawing it.

Yeah I tried packing light and it does have better airflow but I get better clouds from packing it pretty well in there.

A satisfying bowl for my tolerance right now is fill the oven to slightly overflowing, and pack it down to about 1/3 full. Slow draw (or puff) and the heater likes a slight pause between hits.

But the bowls in the videos you can see is not only packed down to 1/3, but I packed more on top of it:

Hello fellow FC'ers.
I want to add another vape to my collection. I only own the VG bat and the MFLB. (thanks to FC'ers, between the Pax and MFLB, I decided on the MFLB...no regrets)

A little background:
I only medicate :cool:in the evenings and although I am way way way past the legal age, I want something that is as stealthy as possible, hence the reason the Solo or the new Air is not part of the contenders.

Contenders:
I have been following the Ascent, FF, Crafty and the Alfa threads (and AA too).

Finalist:
- Ascents all glass vapor path is very appealing and most reviewers are happy with their purchase. (I know, I know, there have been a few unhappy ones as well)
Ascents presence on FC and their customer service is impressive.
- Alfa stealthiness is very appealing and the reviews on FC have been pretty good.
Some have commented that the taste (for a conduction vape) is very good.

I did have a concern with the fact that the company's (Goboof) last post on their Instagram and Facebook account was 6 weeks ago and their websites last news posting was in June 2014. I'm not an anal person, but these are things that I noticed; there really isn’t much info on the company online (trust me I searched and searched).

Sorry for making this long but I wanted to put everything on the table.

For my question (LOL...finally): How is the Alfa's vapor taste compared to the MFLB and Ascent? I recall one FC'er that said the Alfa almost taste as good as a convection vape.

I will most likely purchase one of these 2 today! Yaaay Cyber Monday!

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I've only used the Pax, MFLB, and obviously the Alfa, and I think the taste in the Alfa is the best, but if you're looking for taste I think the FireFly is the new hotness, and it operates similarly to the MFLB. However, it isn't as stealthy as the Alfa, and it's about $70 more, though I did find them on sale during Black Friday for $200.

I was getting ready to order a Pax but came across this review and now I'm torn. I really, REALLY like the stealthyness of the pax, but it seems to go through a lot of material. It's usually just me using a portable (and sometimes my wife), and typically just one or two hits before pocketing it and going back inside.

By chance, does anyone have the physical dimensions of the Alfa? Or can you compare its size to the Pax? It doesnt seem to be listed on the goboof website...

For those of you who are getting one of these, just FYI, the coupon code GVBF10 will get you 10% off the Alfa at gotvapte.net.

@kurogane thanks! I just want to make sure that it taste better than the MFLB, towards the end of the session the taste is not as good.

I debated for sometime on the FF and from what I read, the taste is definitely top shelf but the battery is not long lasting. I really don't want to have 2-3 batteries laying around; for the price of the extras (if I would want to spend that much) I would just get the Crafty :D

Can any other member compare the Alfa vs Ascent for taste?

I have both, and the Alfa beats the Pax in every way. Easier to clean, smaller/better chamber, smaller in general.

Must have missed it. Headed back to page 3. Thanks! Wow, it is smaller than the pax.

@2 Paces, @SiDankies, @kurogane - did you guys receive yours from gotvape.net? Or did they end up being back-ordered after all?

Got mine today from GotVape. They attempted delivery Friday, but there was a wire down across the road because of the winter storm. Unfortunately I couldn't see the wire from my house, and I watched the UPS truck turn around and drive away :(. They wouldn't come back.

It is charging now, so I probably won't have a review until tomorrow. First impression, this thing is tiny.

I agree that goboof sorta came out of nowhere with a great product and hasn't spent a lot of effort on their marketing but I did a Google search and it's actually owned by one of the iolite founders. So there is a strong pedigree designing and backing it so I'm not concerned.

@josemembreno thanks for the info. I also did a search but I wasn't sure what key words to use and only saw that the company was registered in the beginning of this year.

Order placed thru gotvape :) now the waiting game.

Thanks everyone greatly appreciate all the input

I would agree with this, except for Pax's insane 10yr warrenty.

I would use the Alpha for out and about, but I just got a firefly on sale for $200 because people say it tastes better than the VapeXhale Evo!

According to the trademark info and his LinkedIn page, the CEO of goboof (ciaran) is the son of the iolite CEO. http://www.iolite.com/meet_the_team
A post of mine from January 2012:
I had a chance to stop by the WISPR booth at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas yesterday and I had a nice long conversation with Ciaran Oglesby of O&B there. We discussed several topics including O&B's history, the WISPR vs Iolite, and we spent some time discussing current competitor's models (mosty Arizer & S&B). I asked him if O&B had new products in the works and he said that they are always working on new and exciting products to offer. The most interesting part of our discussion (to me at least) was when I asked him if they were working on any non-butane based vaporizers. He stopped for a moment before responding, but finally simply said "yes" with a wry smile on his face. He wouldn't give any further details. :uhoh:

Funny how things work out...

:peace:

Got my Alfa today was sooo hyped. Unboxed it and wow this thing is TINY. The chamber is also very small!! GREAT!

I need to use it more but my first session was at Metlife for the jet game and it was pretty damn good for me. Will try it again tomorrow.

So how is the firefly compared to the alfa? I really wanted it but didn't like the battery life and it's not stealthy enough to use in public places. I'm sure the taste though is better right?

There are so many great vape's to choose from these day's. I recently stumbled upon the goboof and it looks to be great. From the video's cloud and vapor production isn't lacking. My main concern with portable vape's is the battery. I am unsure of the goboof is using if anyone can help me out ? I like the newer vapes coming out were we have the option to replace the battery on our own or carry extras to swap out such as the new arizer air. What kind of battery setup does the Alfa have ?

It's not replaceable and the charge is about 4 hours but the battery seems to last forever. My pinnacle pro battery only would last a session.

That is my only concern , i do not like spending so much money on something that eventually will wear out. Batteries do not last forever and sending back to the company is a pain. So lets say this vapes battery last 2yrs , that's $200 spent but say i purchase the new arizer air , i can get a lifetimes use out of it bc i can replace the battery on my own. Although i am really liking the the goboof , the videos are impressive and its stealthy and blows clouds like a champ and looks like it really conserves well. Tough choices right now , i am not trying to be cheap its just holiday season and i am trying to buy a place.

I have all three. I love the Firedly and convection heating. Its just you have to buy two extra batteries and the charger to make sure you won't run out on your session. You have to factor that into the cost

So I had another session with Alfa today. It was great for me. For the amount of bud I was getting some good clouds. I got a session and a half. I have had about 4 sessions now and not gunna charge it til it dies. My sessions are anywhere form 7-10 minutes.

My only gripe is loading is a pain but it's durable enough to load and go.

Still only my second day so the reviews will keep coming. I love this thing but I mostly vape with my gf and she doesn't like it so far so well see how it keeps going. I can't stress enough how I love how small this thing is.

It's my first conduction vape since the MFLB and honestly the taste is great. Was not expecting it but it truly is. Also I was reading of peoples units turning on in their pockets so I was expecting the knob to be loose. Not at all it clicks into place when you select the temp and it is not loose at all.

Will keep posting after some sessions.

You can always take the rubber top off, turn it over, and it will stand up to load, fyi
