Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

its off-gassing.... How many 10 minute cycles on max do i have to do to get rid of the "mystery vapor" with this new and improved unit? I had to do it 8 times with the da vinci as was recommened by da vinci... and then the power button stopped working, leading me to take it back, pay more, and buy the ascent. And it's off gassing too. No I haven't loaded the bowl.

Does anyone have any experieince with this unit off gassing?

It will NEVER go away and they are all the same.

It would have been good for me to get a refund while I had the chance but I trusted the customer service when they said it was a defective unit, so I kept wasting money shipping it back just to get the same thing. Now I have one, useless, brand new davinci ascent sitting in the box doing nothing.

Well I'll run it through 5 burn cycles and if that doesn't work than I'm gonna hafta give up on the little fella, take it back, and forget vaporizers all together and just buy a really expensive bong or something with the in store credit.

I would try a couple of bowls. The smell and taste should go away. You maybe extra sensitive to smells?

At first I had a slight plastic taste. When you say off gassing are you seeing smoke? If you are seeing smoke when you're heating up the unit and it doesn't go away I would send it back.

When I say gassing i mean, a vapor coming out of it when I turn it on that I can visibly see, prior to having put anything in it. Luckly though after 5 burn off cycles there is much less vapor coming off of it, only about a whisp now.... so hopefully when all the shit is burnt off it won't malefunction like the original da vinci did turning itself on, causing me to exchange it for the ascent which seems to be going a similar direction... back to the store.

And guys I have nothing against Da Vinci or the Ascent. I think it is a beautiful peice of craftmanship, and all its features make it stand out near the front of the line as far as portable vaporizers are concerned. I'm just sharing my experience, and un-apologetically so. The Da Vinci was great when it worked before I took it back due to its inability to shut off. Massive vapor plumage that I was surprised to be drawing out of such a wee thing... So I am holding high hopes that the ascent will truly ascend this gassing bump in the road so I can get to what's important. Vaping.

I love vaping my reclaim - though instead of ISO, I prefer Everclear (Grain alcohol) for the taste.

I have 50mL plastic lab vials with screw tops - they work perfectly for soaking my glass stems overnight. Mine are similar to these - http://www.amazon.com/Transport-Vial-Blue-Cap-50mL/dp/B00AN9IQ18

Alcohol in the plastic doesn't concern you guys? We always suggest a glass bowl or small glass cup for soaking just to be on the safe side.
Regarding the spacers... I was misinformed by our shipping team out here in China. They are on their way as of this week officially. Sorry for the long wait, your patience is appreciated.

My 91% ISO is sold in an HDPE bottle. Why would there be any problems if you use the proper type of plastic?

Patiently waiting on those spacers, I REALLY want to use my Ascent, but the spacer issue has limited my use of this vape.

I think that's the smart call. It depends on the alcohol and the plastic. Obviously some combinations are fine, ISO and Gin both come shipped in plastic bottles (although different types of plastic?). "Lab grade" stuff, like cited above can be pretty tough stuff indeed.

OTOH a misread comment from you (the maker) could easily lead to problems. I think you're well advised to play it safe. Or do like the PD used to, supply the cleaning jar?

Did your Ascent poop out on you after some time? My budget is under 300 and I prefer concealable pieces.

I had to send my Ascent back twice, but my third Ascent was going strong when it met its untimely demise to a curious puppy. The plus side was there was no question that it voided a warranty so I was free to take it apart and post pictures for the community.

The Davinci people were very kind with regards to my first two units, and they were equally kind when I approached them about a price-match dispute, but money has been tighter these days so I haven't yet pulled the trigger.

I don't want to clutter up this thread by advertizing another vape (check pms), as I feel that the Ascent is a solid vaporizer with most of the kinks out. And in truth, I miss using it. It was my first vaporizer and holds a special place for me, I still feel that it is way at the top of the pack in terms of flavor and cloud production.

The only thing to keep in mind is that repairs to the factory can get pricey with shipping the unit to the manufacturer.

Hey everyone, saw this on massdrop and was pretty keen. I wanted another portable but mainly for home use on the couch etc. I wanted it for flower, shatt and soft oils. 70/30 flower/oil. I like hi temps and dense big clouds ( as big as poss given its portable). I will also pair with glass and water sometimes but want this one more as a quick go to. I usually prefer convection vapes.

I usually read up on here first then buy but can only read so much b4 drop ends. At first it seemed cool but the more I read the more i'm finding fails. I liked the initial reviews and vids from Slim at the start of the thread but the end of the thread is filling up with a decent amount issues and ppl giving up on it.

I was comparing against the solo which is also on the drop. Solo seems to have a solid track record and good aftermarket support, cheaper buuuut solo has a draw restriction which bugged me on the pax and it loads kinda like the nano, I preferred the oven loading design of the ascent. The jars seemed great that i wouldn't need cotton/hemp fibre but closer look at the design shows its not drawing air through the jars but simply around it which in my mind is only ever going to be wispy unless there is some serious heat in there.

-oil jars borderline useless for oils providing wispy oil hits and a mess
-leaky,not air tight airway
-reports of poor function and clouds in general
-buttons can be sticky
-temp display is buggy at the highest temps
-Robot fart
-Doesn't hit as good as the solo

In the end I jumped on both of them ascent and solo (always wanted to try the solo and I read a lot of good about it. Reliable and proven. A classic). So now i'm thinking of cancelling the ascent order, It just seems a bit so so.

So my questions to the ascent lovers, what is it that is good about this vape and why does it fit in your quiver?
Wispy or dense?
Good enough for the couch or will I just use my desktops?
Whats the draw restriction like? In relation to ___?
Anyone getting milked glass off the oil jars?
good milkshot vids/links always appreciated :)
How do the hits compare to the pax?

Now that I've ordered the solo is it a waste of time?

Many thanks

I have a great working Ascent. I had an early unit back at the end of Aug. 2013. I needed to send it back due to problems. They sent me another Ascent and we've been going strong ever since. I was using my unit for about 3 or 4 times a week for about a year. Now I'm probably using it more like 2 times per week. I use it mainly for on the go.

I load up my glass spacer flowers before I leave my house. This unit is great because you can set your temp for what ever temp you need all the way up to 430 degrees. I think, tell me if I'm wrong friends, if it's higher. It gives me dense clouds and great vapor flavor. It's very easy to clean too.

Some folks have had more than one faulty unit. Hopefully that problem has been corrected. Davinci has very good customer service. Any vaporizer you buy there is a risk that you will need to send it back.

Remember to buy from an authorized vendor.

You can check out some of the other vaporizers on FC. I have 5 different portables. I enjoy using my Ascent.

I just ordered my 6th portable last Friday!! Merry Christmas to me!!!

To be honest now that I did the burn cycles, something they usually do at the factory anyway, the unit is absolutely golden. I look forward to using it because compared to combustion it's such a healthy and stealthy way to go about getting the most out of your herbal product. I think I'll post a review of it right now.

- Portability: 8.5/10

This unit is about as portable as any folding cell phone and can easily fit in your pocket. It's heavier than say your Pax vapes, but you get a lot more battery life out of it so if you're on the go, having more battery life does matter. It's discreet and being able to slide the glass peice back in after every session makes it that much more discreet, especially if you're using the rubber plug at the end of it.

- Vapor Quality: 8/10

It produces a good, dense vapor with a really great taste due to the glass on glass feature. I don't get any silicone or rubber taste at all, just the essential taste of the flower which is a delicious experience. The only draw back I've found with the vapor quality is that if you want to produce thick clouds, you're going to have to pack the bowl completely full which usually equals about a 0.5 gram of your desired herbal product. That isn't to say you don't experience profound effects with the bowl half packed, when I half pack it, it really spins me right round. I just don't have all the plumage, which is to be expected with any portable vape. It's as smooth as a babys bottom, and doesn't burn my throat and has been a god sent to my lungs.

- Discreetness: 7/10

The Ascent is very discreet in its appearance. Looking at it with a quick glance you probably wouldn't give it another thought or mistake it for a cell phone or a case. With the Carbon Fibre Black model I have, it's incredibly discreet looking when everything is pushed in (the mouth peice etc). What isn't discreet about the ascent is the smell of the vapor lingering a while after you turn it off. Because the ceramic heating bowl has a metal grill with wide open vents bellow, it will produce some smell from that area, especially if you haven't completely vaped the contents. However something that helps with this a lot is the neat little carrying sack with the closure up top that comes included. If you slip it in there after it cools down and synch it up, the smell from the grill will be greatly reduced.

Functionality: 9/10

It's really easy to use. You press the button to turn it on and it immediately heats up. You can turn the bowls heating mechanism off and on with the press of a few buttons without turning the unit off, and the unit heats up within a minute or so. Once it heat's up it displays a little bowl with steam rising from it (really cute indicator) and that means soups on, you're ready to vape.

Overall: 8.5/10

The Ascent is a definite improvement in many ways from the Da vinci original model. It has longer battery life than it's top competitor at the moment which I assume would be Pax, and allows you to dial in the exact temperature, something else the pax cannot do. Heats up quick, comes with handy screens... It's just great. I'm just looking to the day though when i have to clean the glass peices with Iso. I don't know exactly how that will work but I macgyver stuff like that all the time none the less. lol. Anyway this is a really great portable vape, I've used it 3 times today and it's treating me very well, it's not necessarily better than the Pax, it's just that they both have different features and benefits unique to each respective brand. None the less I consider this a top of the line portable vape that is well worth your money.

Keep on Rockin in the free world,

-Tom Bom

P.S. I didn't spell or grammar check this because I'm too lazy at the moment, being under the ascents spell. :p

I own 4 Ascents now (MMJ, other herbs, GF, and early release unit), and it is [mainly] my daily driver.

I'd say the number one thing for me is the session it produces, which encapsulates not only taste, but things like draw and the whole experience. It's a "journey is its own reward" kinda thing for me. I'd rather savor a load over a long session, than get the "punch in the face" hit that some people want (if that's the case, one should probably look at a desktop to better facilitate that.) Also, I'm not chasing clouds, but flavor chasing.

IMHO the taste is much better than other portables like Solo or Indica, although there are a few users here who would disagree with me. :) Just about *anything* tastes better than the Pax to me, but YMMV. :p

The draw too, is much more to my tastes. But again, that's a personal preference.

I do like the more precise temp control [Not only in terms of read-out, but in terms of actual temp], than just colored range indicators. I've got someone that has a mild allergic reaction to one of the compounds, and if we stay below that boiling point, the irritation is minimized. [Yes, yes, paka... It's a range not a point. But still avoiding that range has detectable differentiable outcomes. So it does work, even if we aren't avoiding 99.999% of it.]

So I use my Ascent "on the couch" 90% of the time, but nice option that I can take it out and about with me. I have an EDC on the ready that has everything I need.

In terms of my usage, it is normally 0.14g (roughly). Packed with glass flowers. Using the GonG stem (keep on in the EDC).

I do have the Herbalizer for at home use, which is a great unit. It can be a little like drinking out of a firehose at times, but that can be a plus when one wants it. Also, I hold the Ascent in my hand, which just seems a bit more intimate... Part of the experience with my hand being kept all toasty and what-not. :)

Now that I've ordered the solo is it a waste of time?

Nothing about the Solo is a waste of time! :)

It's good that you have a backup, but also there's @stickstones point about "vape signatures", so you might have fun playing with that.

SIDENOTE: Again the point about Massdrop not being an authorized seller for a few vapes, including the Ascent. So, there's warrantee issue to consider here.

Hey dear Community!

After hours of reading, I'm glad to be part of FUCKCOMBUSTION. It's my first post here and as I'm French i'll apologize myself in advance for my rough english - I'll give you my best shot.

First, few things about me :

27 years old Bartender and Mixologist i started smoking at 16. I never enjoyed smoking Tobacco in my herb mix. I tryed bang but the "one hit" is not for me. I like sharing my stuff around me and take my time to do so. It's was painfull to me but i keep going with joints for many years since i start to open my eyes at vape :

Few month ago i had this feeling. It's time to adopt a more healthy lifestyle. I personaly think that health is moderation in all things. A positive attitude with always help to turn misery into opportunity.
On this way, my biggest changement was "how to regard my herbs usage".

My project was : Quit smoking and start to medicate myself in a proper way. After multiple research I made my first opinion and a choice : Davinci will be my new toy ! At this time it's was really hard to know what is best for me.

Actually I own a Davinci + f bomb water tool and used it for a week. I wanna share my experience with you cause i need your advice and feedback :

This unit is kind of a beast. Really strong but difficult to master. When I prepare my session I fail to enjoy it most of the time. I proceed like that :

-Grind medium 0.4/0.5
-Full right to the top
-Pack a bit with the oil jar
-Complete the full
-Fix screens at bottom and top
-Vape on at 365 for few minutes then increase to 392 and finish at max temp.

The first 5 minutes is my best moment. One of the most amazing experience i never had with Herbs. This flavour, oh my godness, THIS flavour! I rediscovered the taste of my lovely natural medication.
But after that, i'm chasing cloud and get nothing really big. I miss smoking sometime for this reason. I did it last night with a friend who came at home with a joint but i felt dissapointed after all. Dont wanna keep smeling and taste tobacco (100% sure now).

And as I'm "a big smoker" i can do multiple sessions in one night. But this take too long in cleaning/preparing. I think I waste too many time and time is kind of precious.

So i did more research and I 'm on a new unit :The Inhalater ! (dunno if i should try my luck with the new Arizer Air?).

Do you think it's a good one for "a ex smoker" ? My aim is to keep good flavor at low level and get some BIG clouds with hight temp. And i need a unit I can share with friends around. Something impossible for me with The Ascent. It's like wait a minute between hit, really frustating. I guess this is the learning curve (no pain no game).

I think i'll stop here cause it's already a lot to read. I'll do a more complete review of my Ascent later (i'm waiting some glass flowers and need more practice).

Best regards. FuFu.

Ps : Can i do multiple session with one bowl ?
Pss : i already broke 2 glass set (SHAME ON ME, my Sativa get me too high). What's about Ed's TNT stems ? Same, better, or different flavor ? Cause it's not glass on glass anymore with this stuff so i'm curious.

You're right, the purity of the taste of the herbs is astonishing. I literally walk away from the experience with a good taste in my mouth that lasts for a couple minutes.

That's an easy one to fix. Set a kitchen timer for say 10 minutes at the end of the session. When it goes off, take another hit or two and reset the timer.........

I swear sometimes, explaining the simple stuff to the new guys can drive ya nuts!

Best wishes enjoying your Ascent. It might not be the absolute best taste in town, but it's sure a contender worth considering.

Hey!

It's me again. Few day of Love story with my Davinci just happened.

Had some drama at the beginning. I broke the 2 glass set (both during cleaning session, go to bed next time, and leave this shit in ISO) and i lost my 3 metal screens (and a bit of my mind in research).

I guess this was the result of the conflit who was growing in me : A love–hate relationship. Something particularly common when emotions are intense.

But i know woman well (yeah my unit is a girl, i get lucky). And I gave to her some glass flowers. I touched her tenderly to made a good puck. And now it's way better.

The first hit (365F) with all this flavour from all those flavinoids is amazing. I just put one or two glass flower on the bottom and three or four (depend of the size of each one) on the top of the chamber.

I usally stop when i get a popcorn flavour and a brown weed. I coulda do more hit but i don't like the taste after that. So, my question : How can i reuse my after vapes stuff ? I'm thinking about a chocolate cake. It's working ?

Best regards. FuFu.

Ps : Thx KeRoZen for all the tips and encouragements.

Would you consider a plug-in vaporizer? Portables always entail quality compromises, IMO. Maybe an enano, which delivers a big punch from small amounts, or an SSV, which has a bigger bowl and can knock you on your ass. There's also a nice looking HI in classifieds at the moment. you already have a pretty good portable, why not balance it with a hard hitting desktop?

I agree with you by now. The Ascent is enough for Portable usage. I just add a small "smell safe" suitcase to carry it with more discreetness when going out - such a nice improvement. So, I change my mind and decide to go for the trusted Solo as my desktop unit (and in case of my Ascent is broken down). I already bought one with the Adapator / Tubing extension from the Arizer Extreme. Sharing is carrying !

I guess my next move gonna be a "real destop" unit to complete my collection.

Thx for reading and answering.

You looking for things to do with your ABV. Plenty of other threads here on that... everything from cooking to topical oils and more.

Just about anything you can do with fresh green, but this stuff has already (mostly depending on your usage) been decarboxylased.

Have fun!
