Great Scott!
I AM still upset i missed out on the campaign. Like any new vape (or electronic product) I doubt it will be perfect, and something like battery is obviously always going to be exaggerated to the high end, but with repaceables the battery could last 30min and I'd still be pretty satisfied if it otherwise worked like a T1 with temp control and better insulation (that one is my only real concern actually, but I think its possible). If anybody wanted to add me to their order I'd be super thrilled, but I guess I have to wait for retail or secondhand... Weren't they going to open up preorders for everyone when they got close?

Why not wait for reviews at this point man? Have they delivered something confidence inspiring lately? If so I definitely missed that update.

Well for one thing I'm sure the price will go up for retail, but also I believe in it just as much now as I did when I first discovered it in February. And I have to wait longer than even the most critical of backers for my Hopper!

if team Grasshopper really had a magical awe inspiring battery tech (4 hours run time in a fountain pen size battery), wtf are they wasting their effort on a fucking vaporizer, eh?

of all the bullshit claims in the first post, this one is my favorite:

-Safe: Clean vapor path, heating element is medical grade brass

doesn't anybody remember how Zapman was hounded until he purged his brass from the AromaZap? yet, here we are again.

and don't get me started on the "heats up to 210°C in 5 seconds" (brass heater????) together with the claim for accurate temperature control ... in a fountain pen size device ... really? do they have Mr. Peabody's wayback machine? alien technology?

now, i'm not a NASA engineer (although i did software engineering at NASA/Moffett Field several lifetimes ago) but if these guys ...

how about a fucking prototype? is there one? has there ever been one?

don't get me wrong, i like to imagine several impossible things every day, but my feeble mind can't make the Grasshopper leap.

don't mind me ... carry on ... i'm just really angry about the Gunnison grouse and had to vent or explode.

I just put a new brass tube on my apollo that was back-ordered from the local hardware store, because current brass has to meet new lead-free standards and they were out of that size. So brass today isn't as bad as it used to be, as far as plumbing parts go and I would imagine many other things including vapes. The part that it replaced was aluminum, as far as toxins go lead-free brass is probably not so bad in comparison. My only real concern about the zenhopper from a performance standpoint is it may be more of a sipper than a heavy-hitter, that's probably okay but if so it will never replace my lotus or firefly.

There's 2 videos of the prototype. Here's one:

Also, I have never seen them talking about new battery technology, just that their insulation allows the battery to be used incredibly efficiently.

Who says the brass is even in the vapor path?

well, i inferred it from the "medical grade brass" line item ... why "medical grade" if the brass is isolated from the air path.

i also assume this is just yet another conduction vape where the herb sits on a hot brass plate.

@Fenton Mewley thanks for the video link - i did see that before, but forgot about it ... just my opinion but it seems like a lot of effort to get 3 hits ... and 30 seconds to get any visible vapor. yes, yes, i know you don't need visible vapor to get effects, but clearly that is what they are trying to demonstrate.

also, he coughs during the third session ... from my experience that means the heater is too hot ... but it is just a prototype, after all, and better temp control could be forth coming.

Yeah convection, not like a cheap wax pen. Supposed to be a long spiral airpath to bring hot air over the herb in the mouthpiece/bowl.

I gotta think spacex employees (weren't they?) know of some of the latest insulation tech/materials? At least that's part of why I have confidence, and believe its all possible. The amount of time makes that confidence even stronger personally...

Also I believe its W.A.B.A.C. machine

A former spacex member was just busted for hosting silk road 2.0. I believe he got caught because he used his social media from a connection that was supposed to be anonymous. While spacex is impressive, who you work for is not necessarily indicative of success. And what was it they did for spacex? I have a friend who works for tesla, I can probably find out more, but I got the idea that they were not spacex staff at all, more like they had a meeting or contract or something.

thanks for that info - i completely missed that detail ... sounds like the supreme. could be very effective.

would love to know more about the insulation ... even a Sharpie size device doesn't have much room for insulation material.

Making the vaporizer is going to be the easy part. Considering this magic NASA battery has never been seen before that's the real part of this in question. I hope I eat my words but I have no faith in fairy tales. At first I was upset about not having the money to join the campaign. Now after thinking about it for a year or how ever long it's been I'm happy. I've had to tell the bad news to many friends when they show up with a new toy vape pens are for oil.

You mean the 3 hour thing? I am pretty sure thats going by the lowest temperature, sorta like an mp3 players might promise 25 hours but thats actually with low volume and 128kbps files, now when I use that mp3 player with a nice pair of headphones and FLAC files that crap only last like 10 hours at decent volumes...

If they do not show us a photo tomorrow of a completely assembled grasshopper from parts received from the manufacturers, I'm not going to count on receiving my early bird before new years.

The grasshopper will have minimal conduction because the air is brought in thru the spiral heater under the load. If you pack your load tight enough or you hold it horizontal at all times it should be 100% convection, otherwise it's possible for the load to slide down onto the heater. I've already asked them and there is nothing separating the heater from the material. They said it was not a problem that some herb would be falling into the spiral heater since *the heater never gets hotter than the temperature setting.* A stupid oversight IMO... there's no reason not to put a screen somewhere to keep the load in the nose, that heater is not going to be easy to clean. Besides that, it should be too easy to overpower the heater with a quick enough draw since it won't heat up hotter than the setting. What is the point of having a uC controlled heater if you don't have dynamic heat adjustment. I would expect it to get hotter for a couple seconds if I'm drawing faster. Would love to be able to hit that thing hard...

With respect to battery, I get plenty medicated from just 2 hits off the mflb... I can't understand why anyone would want more than an hour of battery life.

And I can't see how anyone can get medicated with a MFLB and less than 4 batteries and 45 minutes of throat scratching hits. Everyone is VERY very different. There are people out there who need more than 12 bowls a day. I'm not one of them, but realize there are very many different ways to use cannabis. For me 2 hits on a MFLB might be enough to almost feel something, for someone else it could be a strong high.

No one has ever said "oh man I have too much battery life".

 Whoops I meant my launchtube not my apollo. Back to your regularly-scheduled programming!

you are right ... if the battery can supply the current the heater should match the cooling effect without exceeding the setpoint temp - at least mine can, so i know it's possible.

the newbie vaporist in the video was drawing really slowly - 30 seconds - maybe it has a very restricted draw.
