SDS thread (Serious Dry Sifters)

Are there any serious dry sifters out here making full melt trichy goodness with nothing but some screens and some elbow grease?

I watched a bunch of bubbleman vids and being inspired, tried a little dry sift experiment with the miniscule bit of THC bomb kief left on my grinder screen and then a kief box screen. I ended up with .02 or so of dabbable material.

I dabbed it on the sub with a flat ti dabber (evenly absorbs heat off sub heater quickly). It didn't fully melt but the (surprisingly little) residue was more stuck on the dabber and almost none of the dabbing surface of the sub heater. Tasted delicious and such an amazing heady high! So uplifting!

Now to get a macro lens and get back to the dab lab and figure out how best to separate the goodies!

Please feel free to comment on any experience with dry sift you want to share here; have you dabbed it? Have you made it?

I'd love to get into serious sifting but I don't have the flower for it. I really like (true) solventless! I like vaping it more than dabbing it but that's just me.

I've always been interested in some bubbleman style dry sift but it's a ton of work, yield is low, and I don't really have a flower surplus to play around with. Can't deny how good the product is though- prob why dispos sell it for 70+/g.

BTW if you want an easy way to check out trichome heads I highly recommend a USB microscope. I have a decent camera and some nice lenses but it's a pain in the ass to use that setup to look at trichomes. Most cameras can't be tethered to a computer, so unless you have a wifi SD card you'll have to take some pictures and manually connect to the comp each time.

I've been using my friends (this model I believe) and it works well enough for my needs, but the resolution is about the minimum you can get away with. I imagine the 5 and 8 megapixel versions would be much better. Also, even the 8mp version is far cheaper than a macro lens.

I find dry sift to be the best way of preserving the flavour of the flowers.

Don't dab it but smoking it is great (ooops!)

You guys bring up some worthwhile points of discussion even in these short comments! First of all, not all terpenoids will dissolve in a solvent, some in fact are water-soluble. These kinds of terps will be left behind in the buds in a solvent based wash. Bubble hash/water hash will retain more of these terps, however bubble tends to retain some residual moisture and water which makes vapor harsher on the airways and alters the taste somewhat. Dry sift, done right with a microscope/macro lens to check results for contaminants is always going to retain the best flavour from the original plant for that reason.

Also, vaporizing with convection will taste better for this material for sure, I agree! I dab only to easily see if it is bubbling when heated. Generally before I had my sub the Solo would be reserved for vaping bowls of bubble sitting on SS wool which was delicious!

Bouldorado, thanks for this man, I am gonna get my hands on a USB microscope which is indeed much handier for my purposes (no need to actually take pictures!).

This will also be extremely handy for verifying the quality of flowers!

It definitely does seem to be a lot of manual labour, however, I think there is no reason why I couldn't work on developing a tech to make this quicker/easier too, just like I did with QWISO ;)

I am loving the taste of even the non full-melt dry sift I experimentally made last night, it definitely vaporized on the dabbing surface of the sub with no combustion! This needs further investigation for sure!

Apologies for double posting and messing up my own thread, but I just did a second attempt at dry sift. Looks almost identical to the bubble hash I had from the same THC Bomb flowers. It doesn't fully melt however, it is dabbable but I prefer to put it in the flower bowl of the sub (I am not surprised, I only have a 120 micron and 100 micron screen and the 100 micron one is broken which lets plant matter through more). Either way, it is absolutely delicious and has an even more uplifting and pleasant high! Less couch-locky too :D

I am gonna get to work on some custom tek now, you guys will hear back from me!

With my limited experience with bubble, I find for the best overall taste I use a fine screen on a bowl liberally dusted with bubble then massaged with a gentle flame.

I've done a variation on this. You have seen the lotus and sub screens I normally use in the sub mate, (btw we should hang out! I'll PM you!) I added a screen that came with my @Ed's TnT stem (I have told him many a time that he got the PERFECT fine screens to vape kief/solventless hashes without any cotton/ss wool!) to the sub bowl and then scooped a tiny (.025g or so) and hit it in the sub at 9 on the dial.

If you put as much of this stuff as I do of flowers usually (more like .05-.07g) you end up getting multiple hits from the one bowl on the sub (which as you know is not the standard order of things lol).

I feel for all the effort that goes into creating bubble throwing it into the sub is doing it an injustice.

My first sift is still in progress.. I don't go through a great deal of herb, and some strains I would rather not put in the sifter!
This is what i've got going though. Taken me a few months to get this much, and I haven't got a razorblade so it just keeps building up. Doesn't look like much but i'll keep saving it until I can do something nice with it.

Brain fade.
I meant to say dry sift but somehow it came out bubble.
Looking good Deja Vu

Nicely done mate! It is a laborious job isn't it!?

check out my IG for sift
Nicely done man!

Here's my first attempt at some THC Bomb dry sift. Took this from whole top shelf nugs :D I have managed to get the contaminants out to the point that it sticks in on itself as seen here. All that with a very careful many hours' labour, a kief box with a broken screen and the screen in the bottom of my grinder lol. It will improve INCREDIBLY when I get a USB microscope and a series of good sized SS screens.

You're the man! I have yet to come across any dry sift in dispensaries in Norcal but i have been coming up on a lot of live resins! I too have been watching bubbleman's channel religiously and I would like a stab at doing some dry sift with the correct material. From my experience most of the live resins come from certain strains as they produce more resin than other plants/genetics.

Live resin is trichomes from plant material that was never dried and frozen immediately after being chopped. its also known as Fresh Frozen in the water hash world.

Most dry sift is made from dry, cured material that has preferably been stored at 50f-60f to preserve the resin.

Ok so I figure i'll contribute to this thread because I loveee dry sieve resin

This year I was honored by Bubbleman with a Legends of Hashish invitation in Amsterdam!

I entered the Schrom and Smelliot (OG x Sour D)

I also placed 3rd in High Times Cannabis Cup US Non Solvent Hash category with my Miami Haze 99% purity Dry Sift. I was the first person in the US to place in the US Non Solvent Hash category with Dry Sift in the Cannabis Cup :)

hehe thanks man! All my neighbors are weirdos

Hittin your shit would turn me weird too me thinks :ko:

Are you able to share some of your methodology/equipment used for your dry sifting without giving away your award winning secrets ? I didn't see anything on your IG to suggesting any what's or how's

This is some of my experimental Live Resin sift, basically fresh frozen trichomes, sifted prior to ever being dried. Strong flavor

I use my own screen sets that I had made to order, standard LPI compared to alot of other kits

70 lpi, 86 lpi, 125 lpi, 196 lpi and 270 lpi

I am just blessed to be able to run my own resin, and I put alot of love into the growing to make sure the resin is prime for extraction.

@CubanGrower

I saw some of your methods drying & curing on IG pic descriptions, what I meant in asking was more along the lines of:
- are you mechanically (vibration) sifting, hand 'pushing', or stick slapping ?
- stacked screens all at once, or transferring between sifts ?
- whole buds, chopped, or ground ? or is this kief droppings just from your mass harvesting ? (pls don't comment/discuss cultivation here on FC)
- SS screens ?

My venture with gawd's gift if solely self supplied or from my close circle self supplied friends, so scale is rather small with our currently 'illegal' system. But if I could manage 1/2 the quality (hell... a 1/3 lol) of what you produce for just myself and my friends, I'd be happy as a pig in shit !

TIA

I sift without the use of anything electronic. Just my screens and cards

- stacked screens all at once, or transferring between sifts ?

I kief my material thru the big screens, then make a big pile of 99% after the kief has been seperated from the material on my 200 LPI, then if i want to i create piles based on the size of the heads but usually its just a big pile from 160 u (micron) to 70 u (micron)

- whole buds, chopped, or ground ? or is this kief droppings just from your mass harvesting ? (pls don't comment/discuss cultivation here on FC)

Whole buds broken up to the consistancy that you would when u roll a blunt or a joint. i do that over the screen to kief. I prefer to use extremely dry triched out nugs. And yes also use trim bin kief from manicuring

- SS screens ?

No I use the poly style

Hope this answers your questions :)
