If that's not it, is there anything else that could cause the cart to heat?

no because the button opens and closes the gate as one would say for the current and voltage to flow through, if your carts getting hot then its clearly an issue.

I just saw that the sr74 is back in stock. I'm about to give in and order one haha. But I want to make sure I know what I'm getting into. I know how to set it up, but where can I look to see how to load it and maintain the unit? Do I need a hammer top if I'm using one of the older persei's?

Edit: Also does the sr74 come with the stainless steel cap? And what does the sr74x upgrade do?

How will the rod placement be different? Also when loading, should I just place the oil dead center? And should I lightly heat it up, as to melt the oil into the coil? Kind of like the older carts?

Do you have a 71, or 74?

if yes then the 74x rod placement is the same as the 71 and which means the white section between the two contact points is fully exposed. As for the 74 this white section on the bottom side is only exposed halfway.

G answered 1/2 of that to a T. As to loading, you do not need to use a torch or any other device to heat up your concentrate- Unless it is honeycomb or a very 'dry' crumble IMHO (others have different opinions). 99% of the time simply placing your concentrate into the chamber and tapping the button while inhaling very gently will melt it into the coil, and then it's ready to rock. You'll be loading a 'buffer' into the coil- about .3 will do nicely- just tap the button intermittently to melt it in, and when it is, load another .3 or so on top of it. That's what you'll be vaping. Put the cap on and draw on it while melting it in, and then hit it!

Since no one attempted to answer my question about a dead SR74, I decided to look more closely at mine. It appears that the spring loaded pin isn't spring loaded anymore. I can pull it out with small pliers, but it doesn't move in and out like it should.

I'm assuming that this is why it's not working. Can I purchase new pins? I can't get past the age verification on the site because I'm on this crappy old iPad.

Are we talking about the spring in the rod holder? I had mine do that as well. I soaked the rod holder in ISO and that freed up the spring temporarily. Finally, I went back to the SR.-71 holder and SR.-71 bottom adaptor. (Neither has springs). It was working great. Until...

Yea, the little spring loaded pin that sits inside the gold piece that screws into the bottom. I soaked it once, maybe I'll try again...

I just received my omicron lite with 3 essential oil cartridges and an extra kiss ceramic cart. I love waxes and shatter, and wanted something clean. G actually convinced me to not purchase the Persei because of the learning curve.

I am a mechanical engineer and would have no trouble taking these apart. Should I buy the Persei and Hercules while there is a sale, or wait and see how steep the learning curve is? Why do all portable vaporizers suck at waxes I.e. Ascent? Prob can't get hot enough. I have a maud dib with a bubbler ? Love it but I hate loading each time. I like the Hercules because all the parts are clean and you get to know what you are smoking from. Should I just use the omicron lite for now and wait for something better? Or buy the Persei and Hercules for the future. Thanks

You may be waiting a long while for something better than the Herc to come out. The learning curve is definately there, but if you are mechanically inclined ( ability to use a multimeter is a plus) it will not be so bad. And learning to use it is fun.
A couple things to remember.
1. Don't hold the button too long.
2. Cool-down hits are a must. Continue to draw through Herc without button pressed to cool your oil.
3. Pocket heat and leaving it in a car can result in your oil flowing down into the bottom(reclaim) chamber.
4. Check Herc with a meter for correct assembly (not a dead short) before attaching to top.

Thanks. I saw a Persei on vapor warehouse for 99, blackout sale. Good buy? I would have to buy Hercules straight from w9tech. Man, buying all these vaporizers are crushing my wallet. Recently bought pax, ascent, omicron light, cloud pen all in one year. I also want to buy the herbalizer next month. Overkill?

I'm a fan of vape critic and he gave the dr dabber good reviews. What do you guys think (I realize he is a flower guy)?

Everyone tells me to read this thread but it is sooooooooo long. If I can just get a tutorial. They should make a short idiots guide to using the Persei with the hercules
