I wish Roger and Stan have "vapman" written all over their shirts, the all star vapman team.
Vapeing and doing some sort of physical activities is a good combination, I agree. I love walking or biking on some hidden tracks through the woods up and down the hills here in Switzerland, having a vapman in the backpack makes it always a special event.;)

my vapman just arrived. i can't believe, how tiny it is. :) the craftmanship is top notch as expected. my mflb has a sibling now and might get jelaous, as it often is with new arrivals in the family. :) didn't try it out yet, because the shop sent me a mica instead of a basic and i haven't decided yet, what to do about it.

edit: i didn't want to mess with lady Karma, hence i called the shop and told them about their mistake. now i have to wait for the test drive until the actually ordered basic version arrives. good thing, i can get used to the dimensions and shapes in the meantime. :) the itch to take this little thing for a ride is very hard to control, though. :)

They're letting you keep it and sending you a replacement vapman?

Congratulations on 'doing right'. As Ben Franklin said "always do right, it will gratify the few and astound the many". IMO you've ensured your enjoyment of the little guy (when he gets there).

Interesting solution by the vendor. They still have to pay for two more postage fees (one to send the cheaper one to you, one to have you send the wrong one back). You'd think that would cover the difference in their cost? And the law says they can't resell the one you now have as new (even if you never use it), once it's been given to anyone it has to be 'used', 'refurbished', 'demo', or something like that.......if they are also 'doing right'. I once worked for a company that got busted for this. We sent out a $30,000 unit with a used circuit board (one of about 25). Our dealer spotted it after installation. Our lawyer said we could not even pay to take it off the ship, return it to the shop and make it right (it would then be a used unit in total). Likewise meeting the ship at the next port and replacing the board would not cover it. We settled for half price. A $15,000 mistake we didn't repeat. After that, no more boards from service kits to complete shipments. A single used component had rendered the entire unit used, and returning it to the same owner after 'reworking' it at the factory would not change that. The Old Man was real pissed and made it very clear to us it wasn't going to happen again.........

Anyway, regards and best wishes for a long an enjoyable relationship with your VM.

That's not how I read it. If he 'gets to keep it' the OP would be using the one they sent in error?

If it had been my call, I'd have 'given a free upgrade'.

maybe it's different with vaporizers. :) it wasn't like there was any special packaging besides a ziplock plastic bag. so i assume, that they are going to sell it as new. they sell the mica for 30euros more, so maybe it pays for them to pay the shipping costs back and forth, which seem not to be that high, only around 5 euros. maybe they change their mind, who knows. :) usually, it's their mistake and i didn't have to tell it, but i didn't want to risk the warranty, since the receipt was specified for a basic. of course i could sell it on ebay and just order a new basic. i guess, it caught me by surprise in a moment of honesty. :)

Anything is possible, but I doubt there's a special law for vaporizers.......

The issue, as I understand, is offering for sale as "new" (and that's generally assumed unless otherwise identified) something that is "used" in the legal sense (the maker loses control when it ships). As far as I know 'still in the factory sealed carton' is a marketing ploy, not a legal distinction (although sellers of course offer that as 'proof'......). An 'unsealed carton' can still be new.

This is US law (actually an 'every state' deal, basically consistent 'everywhere' here, the exact state statute in play being the one where the sale is made), I strongly suspect the EU has similar rules. Clearly they have no control on what you might innocently or maliciously do with/to it before return. Therefore I think ethically (whatever that is.....) they can't say it's 'factory new'.

IMO they could have bought a lot of customer good will cheap and avoided potential problems by not further delaying your enjoyment of the product you've paid for because of their mistake. I assume they paid for premium delivery (fast shipment method)? IMO they should have......

Still, karma is on your side here. My compliments to your fidelity to principle.

So as far as mica and basic goes, I understand the physical differences. As for performance, those of you with experience with both, how do they differ?

I know I could never tell you the difference blindfolded (no touching allowed.....), and while I won't say it's impossible, my hat is sure off to the fellow that can. Unless you scorch the wood by accident, but that you smell rather than taste in the vapor.

IMO the only practical differences are in cosmetics and durability.

I don't have both - but the members who do, who have posted here already, seem to have mixed opinions over which they prefer and why. The Vapman site claims that both perform equally well. Perhaps @RUDE BOY will give you a bit of a recap on his personal experience with the two? Or if you work backwards through this thread you'll see what members have said on this before.

I remember René saying that there is no difference in performance between the two, and although I still don't own a Mica (Classic) Vapman, I believe it. Especially since he just posted the other day that you shouldn't heat the Mica at all.

Some people on the Internet say that heating the Mica gives it a bit of convection, but René says heating the Mica may singe the wood underneath and make the screws come loose...

I really like the simple elgance of a charred Vapman, and my charred one still looks really good after about a year of heavy use. - I really like my two-toned charred Basic as well, and I seriously can't decide which of the two I like best.

That said, I'm sure I'll ed up getting a Classic later on, just because...

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you can afford it, get the Classic (mica) and if you don't, you won't loose anything at all in performance or effect.

Good luck deciding! Haha

I have both and prefer the gorgeous Vapman Walnut with mica. Things might be different now that I have extended experience with the walnut, but I have found the mica easier to work with. Until I got the mica, I was a bit of a torch virgin and the innards of my basic look like half used firewood.

Clearly, I'm a member of the complete moron brigade, so I don't expect my opinion to add much value...unless you are equally torch challenged.

I've not added more wax to my Vapman in over a week and I'm trying to burn off what was in there. Still, the wax is oozing out onto my lovely mica (but, to my defense, it really didn't seem like much). The VM sticks firmly within the egg and must be pried loose. I'll continue to try to "burn" out the waxy oozage, but I'm starting to feel like I am the warning klaxon for those of you who are more competent. Perhaps I should change my name to TheCanaryInTheCannabisMine. If you are wondering what action to take, ask yourself, "What would Mr. Mellish do?," then do yourself a favor and do the exact opposite!

A friend has been doing experiments with mica and acetone and it looks promising. I would love to reclaim and cleanse but I'm afraid of trashing this piece of art!

Tried the screens with the dark hash AND some home made ISO wax (the hard, snappy kind that goes soft in your hands - but not oily) [Future's voice]at the same damn time[/Future's voice] last night... after a night long session with only hash.

I've got a hangover today :mmmm:

So as far as mica and basic goes, I understand the physical differences. As for performance, those of you with experience with both, how do they differ?

Performance wise I do find find them pretty much equal.

In the hand the classic feels and looks more refined with the mica shield and the finely sanded and oiled finish. I know my pear wood basic was pretty 'stark' looking when brand new next to the classic, now though It's uniquely mine with the scorching and charring around the bowl and the ever darkening tone to the wood.

I believe classic to be fully worth the little extra money in that it's truly the finished form of the product from the craftsman/artist/designers vision of what he had in mind, they are actually beautiful little pieces of functional art.

The basic vapman has the same beauty of 'basic form' and function without the polished and refined look and finish. It's kind of like the difference when your shopping for simple furniture, you can pick up an unfinished 'student' desk for $80 at a local store and it still has the same top and six drawers as the finished one that's $180 and comes already stained, sanded and, oiled.
Both work well as a desk and are exactly the same in form and function just not finish, but they aren't the same since one took a bit more time, effort and money to produce as a totally finished product.

I love 'em both, I do use my basic most just because i bought it first so I save the classic to share and as a backup if anything ever happens to my first.

I know it's been said here before by others but I'm amazed how once you share your vapman with a group of people within a week or two there are two or three more Vapmen in your little bumfuck culturally deprived town. Hasn't happened with any other vapes over the last 4 years, so that alone really says something about the little vapman.

Just Pick one up. Can't go wrong with Either the classic or basic vapman. I do recommend picking up a Vapman torch with it too, the perfect match.

Saturday I got the vapman and what a great feeling it was to know it was taken by customs or lost. It came with the wood stem I ordered installed so that’s how I broke it in. This was my first torch lighter which is much smaller and quitter then I expected, works great every click. So went straight to work on my technique. I was and still can be a bit lighter shy when starting off. Not huge hits but great tasting smooth hits. Tasted so good for soo long I ended up pushing it too far and combusted my last hit. I did the same thing 2 more times before getting a taste for when its the right color abv for me. I’m still playing with the depth of the flame to the apex. And I found out just one second can be a big difference in heat. I’m starting to get a nice rhythm down but cant believe the amount of adjustments u can make to the vapor from heating to covering the holes in the mouth piece like chokes. It seems I’m always trying something new each hit which is blast to me and makes this vape a lot of fun to use. I ordered the concentrate screens received 4 which was an awesome little bonus. The quality of the screens is to notch they are thick and sturdy. Last night I decided I would break off a little hash and try these screens out. With out a doubt that was the best hash session I have ever experienced, taste alone was amazing. It lasted forever I had to take a few breaks an set it down for a while haha.

Here is a picture concentrate screen ready to blast off into deep space.

I heard that the egg was waterproof and I really was interested in testing this for myself. I thought this was gonna be a summer vape for kayaking, canoeing, camp fires, disc golf, and any other outdoor activities. To test this I filled a quart mason jar with water, put the funnel and the vapman in the egg closed it up and dropped it in the water.

8RqtZBu.jpg

After a few drops in water and even held under for a few seconds, I cracked open the egg to find everything bone dry zero leaks and on top of that this thing actually floats really well. So my yellow egg can be spotted floating down the Alleghany if every lost over board, how sweet it is haha.

I wish I would have picked up the extra mouth piece screen for alternating during cleaning. Also that screw driver would have been clutch and an extra funnel just incase. I think that would be a nice little accessory kit those 3 items, couple extra screws and maybe a tool that can be used to clear out the air holes. I haven’t had to clean this vape yet other then poking out the abv and dusting off the left overs. I think a handle with a wire from the end would work to push through the air tubes and maintain the best air flow. Not sure if they will ever get built up with abv just my imagination thinking.

Wood vs. plastic mp tips my opinion is there isn’t much difference in temp of the vapor, and both have great flavor. I would have been fine with just the black plastic mouth piece but since I have the wood I use it more and it does add a bit more natural earth flavor which I find complementing to the herb. I would say the wood mp is nice to have but not necessary to this vape. I would love to see an ED TNT WONG for this in the future if possible. Also and extended mp glass or wood would be nice to try as well.

Over all conclusion for my vapman review is that I’m glad I pulled the trigger and picked up the walnut basic. Its way smaller and I think it can be quite discreet if need be. The flavor is unreal maybe better then my hammer which is the best I have had the privilege to try for flavor so far. The hash session changed my life. Great lighter and the egg floats. The heat up time is just seconds before u get quality vapor. Lots of control and variations for the vapor with air holes/carbs and heating freedom. If I was to have one fault or con to this vaporizer it would be that its easy to combust for rookies like myself.

So I’ll keep practicing with the vapman and enjoy the effects of just a pinch. I think it is pretty much about exactly the same amount I would pack in to a hammer stem which makes this just as efficient. With the 3 air hole open this is one of the smoothest and great tasting vapor, but I also like covering all 3 holes to get the warm dense vapor.

Thank you everyone that makes up this thread providing all the great info that helped me make this vaporizer apart of the crew.

Well, not without breaking it.......

If you're really serious it's pretty easy to 'cut' (actually score and snap) it down and "fire polish" (heat to glowing with your torch lighter) to smooth the edge. Lots of details around.

But I can demonstrate putting your glass stem inside your egg......
