Hey guys!

im sure this must have been asked but is there any consensus on whether space case or santa cruz shredder is better?

also is there a difference in the grind quality between a 2 piece or a 4 piece grinder?

SCS seems to appear to have more fanboys on here, despite SC's history and loyal customers...
perhaps a poll is in order.

Look at the teeth pattern - the Space Case has your more traditional diamond shaped teeth. The SCS has a square looking tooth pattern. Better is all relative to how you prefer your grind - some (many) like the SCS grind, but the traditional diamond pattern has worked for many people.

A 4 piece can grind like a 2 piece, but only if you invert the grinder and use it upside down (to keep the bits from falling through the bottom before you're finished grinding - I personally grind mine while wholding the SCS sideways

I've got a mendo mulcher that's been leaving what appears to be shavings and flakes despite a couple washings, is there anything in particular I should try before getting a SCS instead?

Yeah, put that mendo in a drawer somewhere because you will never use it again once you get a SCS. SCS grinders are so much better. I have two mendos that will never be used again.

The best grinder available imo is the new SCS three piece. It's a work of art.
Amen, brother. The SCS 3 piece and my Happy Daddy Pipe Tool are my trusty right-hand men! Unbeatable!

What's the grind consistency like on the 3 piece? I've been looking at the mini purple one

I just ran out of herbs otherwise I was about to do a before & after pic of the grind process! Someone else will surely be able to chop a mix for you as a demonstration though! and whoever does such a favour should also post the whole process just to be a completionist. Post some milkshots

Mendo 1.75" vape grinder, gives a finer more consistent grind than my old Spacecase medium titanium.

The SCS holes look even bigger than Spacecase, and that's why I chose mendo vape grinder with the smaller holes. Fine grind is the most important thing when vaping.

Not necessarily, some vapes like it fine (plenty, lotus, etc), others more course grinds (nano). It all depends on the device, and imo sometimes strain and how well it is cured also come into play... lots of variables.

I find the scs absolutely perfect for all my vapes.

Also, dont buy mini. Its very difficult to grind sticky weed
Very true. It's due to the shape of the teeth-too much resistance for the squared off design. I've had to unload mine and use another grinder more than once. Now I don't even use the mini unless it's wintertime and the bud is dry and ready to break up. SCS could help the situation by etching a grip into the other half of the grinder.

(This is reposted from a thread "SpaceCase / Santa Cruz Shredder" that was archived to ABV (archived threads) and locked after only 8 days. I'm not sure why that thread was put to bed, but I thought there were some useful comparisons.)

OK, I had to find out for myself.
Longtime Space Case user here. I got a Santa Cruz Shredder because I always wanted a 3 piece grinder, and that is all the excuse I needed to try one.

How did the Santa Cruz Shredder compare to my beloved Space Case?
I didn't think there would be much difference and that my trusty Space Case would always be my favorite. Well... there are many differences, some major, some minor. Depending on your needs, these differences may or may not matter. For my needs, they each have some, but not all of the features desired.
I like both grinders for different reasons and purposes.

My Space Cases:
2pc small titanium (2" dia)
4pc medium titanium (2.5" dia)
Scout grinder/canister (1.5" dia)

My Santa Cruz Shredder:
3pc small purple (2" dia)

My two favorite grinders are the Space Case 4pc medium titanium and the Santa Cruz Shredder 3pc small purple.

*** Space Case 4pc medium titanium *** - I've used this grinder for more than five years.
Good size grind. Pretty consistent, sometimes passes a small BB sized piece. The fit and finish are very good. The titanium coating really does have non-stick properties. It stays clean, never had to clean it (SC wins here). The magnet is on the floor of the grinding section, herb can get caught under the top (SCS wins here). The grinder top rim overlaps outside of the grinder section wall, stays clean (SC wins here).
The threads are cut all the way to the top edge of the storage section and are finer than SCS. Makes it harder to start threads and required more revolutions to open/close (SCS wins here).

I like this grinder best for vaporizing. I prefer to suck the herb directly into the wand. Sucking material off a screen works better than sucking it off a flat impervious surface. I prefer to handle the herb as little as possible. All the sticky goodness should go into me, not on my fingers or grinder. I don't want the 4pc for kief collection.

*** Santa Cruz Shredder 3pc small purple *** - I've used this grinder for less than one month.
Good size grind. Very consistent grind. Nice and fluffy (SCS wins here). The fit and finish are very good.
The magnet is on the top of a post on the floor of the grinding section, less chance of herb getting caught under the top (SCS wins here). The grinder section top rim rides inside of the grinder bottom section wall, letting herb get caught and crushed (SC wins here). The threads are not cut all the way to the top edge of the storage section. There is a non-threaded, tapered section that lets them mate properly before threading. Add to that a slightly coarser thread than SC and this grinder is much easier to open/close (SCS wins here).

I like this grinder best for combustion (I know... the C word). The 3pc, no screen, curved bottom are easier to use for me for this purpose. The curved edge inside the bottom makes it a lot easier to pick up herb with your fingers.

Each of these manufacturers have features that I wish could all be found in one grinder. An SC/SCS hybrid would be perfect.
SC's titanium coating
SC's grinder top rim overlaps outside of the grinder section wall
SCS's grind is fluffier and more consistent
SCS's magnet is on the top of a post on the floor of the grinding section
SCS's 3pc no screen (I still prefer the 4pc for vaping) and curved bottom (who doesn't like a curvy bottom?)

Sorry if this has been covered but it's a long thread to read through and the search option came back with too many results, but where in the UK online is the best place to get santa cruz shredders?

So a mate of mine had a highdea the other day, and I wanted to see if any of you guys had any input:

He was thinking it would be cool to get a relatively high end pepper mill (I'm pretty sure that's the name - the thing you use to have freshly cracked pepper), load it up with some nicely dried out buds, and "fresh grind" a bowl or 2 at a time...

Straight off the bat my thoughts were that you'd need particularly dry bud, and it would probably gunk up pretty quick, requiring regular cleanings, but I was wondering what my fellow fc members thought about the idea?

Would it be Possible?
Or should it just be left to the realm of highdeas?

It will remain forever in the highdeas realm. Maybe an expansion for The Sims will come out and include it...

Yeah I mixed up the sizes, thought the small was the mini. I've got a purple 3 piece coming, can't wait to try it out
I want that purple one too, it looks awesome (must sell my mini first :D ). Post pictures when it arrives :)

 I love seeing a full SCS - Nice color - is that the Small 4piece Gunmetal SCS? I have the same one!

I love mine, after going through at least 5 grinders in my life, I'm very satisfied with my investment!
