Iguess the 15th release date of the sr74 didnt happen.. and now if i read correctly it seems as though the 1st shipments coming are only for repairs as its a limited quantity??

oh well kind of sick of waiting on it.. gonna just place an order for the discounted sr71 this friday instead. just wondering if anyone can confirm whether its a ti coil that it comes with or not? also does the hammer top come w. circuit protection?

Just out of curiosity, what is it that bugs you about the squashed coil method? Since I've done so, I have had zero problems with my coil creeping up and the SR-71 is performing even better.
for me, it hasn't stopped the problem, only slowed it. I still need to push the coil back down after anyone other than myself uses it. they get it too hot and the coil slides up.

I was under the impression that the items that would be for repair first were the V4 Persei tops.

After using the core for about four hours I can safely say if you don't have one, YOU ARE USING THE PERSEI INCORRECTLY. I am so pissed off that I sat on this for so fucking long. I  UpTech..... yall should sell shirts that say that.

Well, I guess Persei decided I'm done. Had a perfectly working unit for a few months, put it down for a couple hours today and when I picked it back up, the light blinked at me a couple times, then the spring promptly smoked out and collapsed.

It was fun while it lasted.

@THC SCIENTIFIC or anyone else, is there a set of instructions for the rebuild kits anywhere? I didn't realize the ti was different from NiChrome

@DieHard has a guide but I'm not sure how things differ for the newer Ti KISS carts. Does anyone know the proper resistance and number of wraps (over/under) using the Ti wire in the rebuild kit? Just killed my only 7.4v Ti KISS cart during a Persei+Okeanos session earlier tonight and need to do this now myself.

Just had another great session with the core + KISS globe. I managed to successfully avoid the dreaded blinking light problem. Dialing up for 4.2v is so nice for the Ti globe. I really notice the improvement in cloud production compared to running the globe off my Omicron Lite. Makes me want a portable equivalent of the core for my Persei. Where is that new Iris at?

I use 5 over 4 under with 32ga NiChrome 80 wire for 7.4v. The Ti is slightly different because a small length of non-resistance wire is crimped on the ends for the contact points. The NiChrome Kiss uses laser welding to attach the non-resistance wire. I don't use the non-res wire with the NiChrome wire. I have not attempted a Ti rebuild with the "KISS rebuild kit" yet. I will post detailed pics when I have attempted it.

Is the non resistance wire really necessary? I never used it with NiChrome either.

I have noticed that when the cart is especially saturated with oil, the legs are visibly glowing red inside (visible through the tiny hole in the side of the cart. The Top of the cart may not even be heating fully.
So probably beneficial but not really necessary. I have also noticed some slight melting of the white insulator with an especially HOT coil.

Exactly as diehard said..if you don't use non resistance wire the Ti wire will heat up the length of the wire from the bottom of cart where it contacts the battery all the way to the ceramic wick. That's a waste of heat and inefficient. The cart gets very hot. The couplers included with the rebuild kit can be used to prevent that. Right below the white ceramic cup you put the ends of Ti wire and the ends of the non resistance wire in the couplers and crimp the couplers with pliers (I guess?). Then the non resistance wire goes from the battery contact to just below the ceramic cup without heating up. Only the Ti wire coiled around the wick heats up.

I have a similar ti cart (not from UPTech) where there is one coupler inside the ceramic cup. Should I continue to use it?

All you should need is a new spring..... and figure out why it shorted!

@coffinoff On top of the new spring @jpdnkstr mentioned, you will most likely need a new top as well. Sounds like it blew. If you're under warranty, all you have to do is send in your broken top and they'll replace it with the newest model top for free.

I would try the spring first before dropping $ on the warranty. My spring has collapsed a few times exactly how you've described & all I needed was a stretch back in the right direction or a new one. If the problem persists, you likely blew your top.

Thanks guys. I had ordered a new spring the same day it failed and I just got the shipping notice today. I think the top is still good but we'll see how it goes. I still have to take the Herc apart to verify but I'm guessing the rod must have slipped down or something.

any black friday/cyber monday sales @THC SCIENTIFIC ?

That would be sweet. I'm real tempted to pickup another Persei or an 8 now so I have a decent backup unit.

Pardon my French(it's not Canadian), but, what the fuck is that?:hmm:
A joke asking if w9 guarantees you won't find your purchase cheaper from somewhere else, or if it goes on sale and you already purchased, they will make up the difference
