how to free a stuck GonG joint?

I love it, very useful stuff for making GonG release predictable over time. Works very well on the plug in my CloudBuddy and can even substitute for grinder grease in a pinch.

Shpooding Time.
I use burts bees lip balm haha, I have broken so many goddamn downstems getting them stuck in the joint. I used the vibrations from a dremel tool to free my joint reducer (18 to 14 adapter) the other day  I put a bottle cap on the adapter and used the side of the chuck on the dremel to rattle it. Probably not the best idea, but it worked

Unapproved commercial account.
I found the best product
Smooth-Slide-1-67x300.png
that is very low priced and super effective. I found this product to worked the best over existing products. The reason i love smooth slide is that it has the perfect blend to stay functional in cold, warm, and hot climates, and best of all you only need Smooth Slide, you don't need to buy 2 products like the others on the market. I was given a sample for free when I purchased a bottle of Kush Clean - Reusable glass cleaner from them at Hempcon, which by the way is the easiest bong cleaner i ever used (no scrubbing or shaking) :)

If your slide/dome is stuck due to congealed wax just lightly heat the joint with your torch. The wax will free its grip immediately.

To prevent it from happening in the first place you can put any sort of chapstick or a dab of petroleum jelly on the joint.

Thanks for this thread, torch worked for me, didn't realize there could be water stuck in the joint. I didn't let it cool down. Torched it dry and pulled joint off with a dry towel.

Looks like a job for!
Just wanted to put my method out here as It didn't seem to be mentioned in this thread yet.
This relay depends on how your connection looks and what kind of space is available in you GonG stuck joint. Take a moment to look at the Glass on this page and note the amount of space between the joint of the bong and lip on the downstem.
http://zoneutopia.com/bongs/hoss-gl...-ended-diffuser-downstem-on-29-mm-joint-h082/

If you happen to have glass with that style or similar spacing / style then you are in luck as getting the item out is usually quite simple for this style. We will simply use that tiny gap to our advantage, go out and buy a stack of wooden drywall shingles for a few bucks from home depot ETC. Then simply slide a shingle in-between the bong joint and the down-stem lip in that tiny space. Simply push in a bunch of shingles evenly on each side of the bong into that gap until you have it nice and snugly tense where the wood is pinched and trapped in by the GonG joint which is stuck.

Once you got the shingles wedged in there evenly go get a beer and call it a day. Let the gentle upward pressure the wood is forcing on the down-stem do the work for you by the next morning chances are it will have popped out already. This technique is essentially the same thing as that vice that was pictured earlier in this thread, just with a bit more of a home made approach. Note this obviously does not work on every glass and If this does not work I usually go with the "rock it side to side method."

So, can Grinder Grease sub for Smooth slide? I would guess yes.
From a review of it:
  1. Chronisuer Grinder Grease works on wood, plastic, metal, acrylic grinders to remove gummy buildup. It also works on fingertips, scissors and I use it as mustache wax. Chronisuer Grinder Grease is made with all food grade ingredients heavy on beeswax and hemp seed oil.

I never tried it the other way around, it should work however, if you try it pay close attention to the viscosity. The stability of this is what makes the GonG release predictable over time. If grinder grease is looser, and it gets a little warm during use, it might let go when the other wouldn't.

I decided to come to this thread for help with my problem as I see it's still somewhat active.it must be almost a year since the stopper in my cloud buddy has been stuck. I have tried everything I as well as other people could think of. Freezer, torch, oils,ISO etc etc. I come to this thread hoping someone out there can help. I miss using the cb (especially with my enano) because all I had to do with lift the stopper to clear. Any thoughts or ideas would be great as I am at a loss at what to do.

Pictures? What is the stopper made of?

You may try heating the outside. Not enough to heat the stopper. Apply a couple of drops of cooking oil to the joint area before heating. Then while holding the buddy as close to the joint as possible, use something made of wood to tap on the sides of the stopper. This should knock it loose. Hold it upside-down so the stopper can fall out while you are doing this. Have something soft ready for it to land on. This method worked for me (minus the cooking oil) for a stuck Domeless nail.

Joint wax works but it can leave gaps in the joint if not evenly applied. Been putting a drop of cranberry extract on the gong before seating it for a while and no lockage since.

Any suggestions for wood on glass? For the second time I have my wong stuck in my bubbler. The first time I sent it to Vitolo who salvaged the bubbler but not the wong. I've been using bomb butter to keep it from sticking but that obviously didn't work.

my shit is still stuck, but i gave up on it for a bit

gonna try the damn wooden spoon method again and do some serial wiggling

*edit* i got it unstuck just moments ago! i hit it with a torch for a min to remove the water that was clearly in the joint. after that was gone i started to tap it from all sides with the wooden spoon as it cooled. i started to wiggle the joint as soon as it was cool enough to handle. feeling like it wasnt going anywhere i started to tap again for another few mins. then i noticed that the edge of the wooden spoon fit perfectly between the two flanges of the joint. i used it to slowly start prying. barely any pressure, but did so all around the joint. after a few rotations it just came loose. finally i can really clean this puppy.

im going to start to make sure the joint is DRY every time they connect. what are some other solutions for keeping a joint from getting stuck? i know of the teflon sleeves and just keeping it dry, but what are some other methods?

I've had a downstem stuck for over 6 months now, and just found this thread. I finally got it loose using a bamboo rice paddle. It has a nice little bend to the edge that allowed it to rock the tube lose, just worked around the edge.

Well, I cracked it. Now I just need to break it so I can get both adapters un-stuck. This has to be a record, two stuck at once. :disgust:

Sorry to bump an old thread, but...

To all the people with stuck joints, please follow the advice in this thread. I had a downstem that got stuck due to a combo of waterlock and taking a pretty hard direct impact to the top of the downstem, seemingly cementing it in there, yesterday. Well, after tapping it on a bookshelf and trying to pry it out with my fingers over and over for more than a day straight, I decided to try to pry it out with a flathead wrapped in thick paper towel. (dumb idea, I know)

FUCK! Snapped a giant ass chunk out of my beloved Alex K dowstem that lasted for over 8 years.

Then decided to search the forum, but only after I broke the stem of course. (d'oh)

I used a Blazer torch to heat around the outside of the joint to evap the water in the joint. Then after it cooled a little gave it several good taps around the outer edges with a wood spoon. Repeated a few times, then voila, the stem came out!

I'm so pissed at myself for not searching first, and trying to use brute force instead.

Luckily, the downstem was quality US glass, so it didn't shatter into pieces, just one big chunk broke off one side. I'll probably just gorilla glue it back together.

Learn from my mistake... A torch, a wood spoon, and patience will work wonders.

Well, I got my dropdown stuck in my 14mm -> 10mm reducer.
At least the reducer isn't stuck in the rig.

One half assed attempt at torching and twisting to no avail, but there isn't much room to grab onto anything and it was a bit hot.

Heat + wooden spoon & tapping sounds like the most reliable/gentle method?
Any other thoughts?

:peace:
