Titanium Nitrate Nails

No clue what I did yesterday
And so another Lurker awakens and begins to type..

So.. I just saw that Grav Labs makes these titanium nitrate coated nails: http://www.grav.com/titanium-nitride/

(Notice in the photo how the coating is missing on 2 spots on the screw? Poor coating? Does it even matter? More will probably come off over time?)

Well, so first of all I was wondering what's beneath the Coat, just titanium?

Then I couldn't find an MSDS or such that tells me about components.

It also looks they don't come domeless. Yet? Or problematic with the coating?

what are they asking for it? i mean it looks like the coating you see on drill bits and such, ive always found it a gimmick, companies slap the word "titanium" on everything, i would think it is a titanium nail just with a nitrite coating. What are they asking for it?

I would like to see a tungsten nail! would be virtually indestructible and would hold heat a lot better than titanium not to mention you could use an oxy torch to heat it with no fear of damaging it

19mm: retail $35, $27 atm here
14mm and 10mm are same price

and yeah it does seem to be a titanium nail with nitrate coating. Wikipedia says that it is a ceramic material and is used mostly to coat titanium, steel and aluminium. Also says they use it on medical implants, because it's non toxic. (That's just from the introductory paragraph).

It makes more sense to use on drill bits, seeing how they are grinding against other hard substances at a high temperature level (extra armor).

Really do not understand how this will improve the life of a titanium nail for dab purposes (this will definitely increase the time taken to heat the nail/increase max temperature level).

maybe it will help prevent damage to the nail from repeated blasting with a blow torch? or maybe its just a cool new look, a gold nail LOL

Maybe a non-stick surface. Maybe just a gimmick...

Well it does seem somewhat gimmicky. Then again so does the nitrate coat on titanium implants. It be nice if someone could give their experience with one of these.

Sorry to bump a dead thread, but this is all the info I can find on this subject. I would also like to know more about this.
