My face is melting...
Been using my VG collection a lot lately...

It probably is an under appreciated vaping tool maybe because many people start off w. a VG and move on to more technical pieces relagating it to the status of a spare 'n share piece?

I recall my skepticism at OF's suggestion of using a torch, but have to say that I glad I've given it a chance. As counter intuitive as it may seem, combustion is less of an issue w. the torch vs. a candle flame lighter. I'm not sure why this is so, but it's been my experience and conclusion.

I've also found that the VG makes a better backwoods device than my other torch driven pieces. It's more pocketable than many portables and it's easier to "cup" the flame from the wind. If the torch lighter fails (which happened recently w. me and the Vapman), one can always fall back on a Bic style lighter if need be.

The HC VG adds a certain amount of "stealth" value too in that it looks all the world like a conventional tobacco pipe and doesn't attract the kind of attention that the Lotus or VM would get.

I don't know if I love any more than my Lotus or Vapman, but it deinately has a place in the quiver. The butane thing that so many people concern themselves over is kind of silly IMO. The flavor is decent, if a little harsher than the Lotus, and I can get awesome cloud bursts w. ease. In fact, I usually reserve it for outdoor use for this very reason. The Lotus is much more refind and lends itself better to my indoor needs.

I agree, IMO it's that a torch is easier to control. The heat is more stable, concentrated and directional. In reality it's exactly the same total heat (as long as you're burning the candle flame cleanly, not making soot) since the gas volume and reactions are the same. You can see this on some 'dual flame' models.

As long as you can see what you're doing I think it's very easy (and natural) to direct the heat right where it's needed. OTOH I can't unnerve myself enough to point that torch at my nose with the coil model. If I put a tube on the coil, no problem, but that torch pointed at me so close is just too distracting........

I much prefer the newer tops, I find it easier to teach new users with the newer tops rather the older one. With the old school top most users needed a longer draw and still wouldn't get vapor. A lot of times they would pull the flame in too much since there isnt as much depth in the old tops.

I too would like an all in one Genie like my Hammer.

Salutations,

I'd like... A sleek integrated Genie, made for the present Century!

Well i sent an invitation to the manufacturer so they can appreciate my suggestion about adopting a futuristic Bi-Energy solution:

My hope is that this is considered someday, as it would cut on pre-heat time which is quite short as it is using a jet flame... Yet i figure less pre-heating and more inhalation time should be fun.

...probably is an under appreciated vaping tool maybe because many people start off w. a VG and move on to more technical pieces...

My progression occured in reverse, from the HA v2.1 for 25 months (and Arizer Tower for 3 weeks) to my present-day modded VG pipe that i no longer need to reconfigure. Few current offers stimulated me so much i'd be ready to send a postal money order anywhere with my name and address on it, not to mention i didn't exactly win popularity contests on the internet these last few years... At least i can find the VG pipe in relatively close local stores, which is a major selling point to me under such circumstances!

I recall my skepticism at OF's suggestion of using a torch, but have to say that I glad I've given it a chance.

It was a post from another member that re-prompted me to give it enough thought until i could hope to succeed, which i eventually did, but it's totally possible this member got the word from OF as well, i wouldn't recall anymore. Nonetheless i finally went radical about it by chopping off the top by a couple mm so it works properly with my pair of Menghu YYG MF-222 butane lighters (which ain't too bad while hardly satisfying neither, by the way)...

I'm not sure why this is so, but it's been my experience and conclusion.

Yes, sufficient power appears to promote precision by limiting hesitation i'd argue. Lets also mention i turn my puck dim-red before the real inhalation part (with increased vigor) will begin at last... As for wind i evaluated that aspect a few times and the torch option remained most desirable, so much i don't see myself going back to a soft flame except if forced by some necessity somehow. Evidently its flexible PVC tubing extension wouldn't go unnoticed but i don't see myself vaping in public places anyway.

...it definately has a place in the quiver.

Sure does and the potential hasn't been fully exploited yet!

Oh well, all we can do is to share our own testimonies to the best of our abilities. Despite all the explanations there are non-believers who wouldn't even want it for a "Plan-B", while i've been without a "Plan-A" since spring, the previous one during the other year... So far i keep calling it my "Plan-B" just because that's what it was initially destined to become for me, but when the material is worthy sometimes i wouldn't blush refering at it as "Plan-A+" at all. It just requires time, because i think after sufficient exposure the unconcious brain acquires skills that help avoiding the mishaps - and if that's still unsatisfactory there's modding, which was fun and educative too.

To me there's no going back: the VG was an essential rite of passage that i would have to miss deeply if i didn't give it another chance!

Not to mention that's the closest substitutive option for ex-smokers i can imagine at the moment, being a pipe exactly.

I much prefer the newer tops...

Maybe that can be tweeked according to the intended fire source, like there were short vs long handles before. Personally it's the finish i disliked most: over-heated finish stinks so i guess a mix of darkened (torched front) wood and a slightly conical collector funnel might simplify energy storage (in the puck) before the real fun begins...

Good day, have fun!

I too hit the coil once in a rare while... usually to show someone that it works well.
I use the wooden VG most often, but the Glass Sherlock still my favorite. I just use it least due to cleanup time involved.

I just got a beautiful walnut hand carved off eBay for 50$. Its very nice overall I still think the OG is better. The classic has a deeper bowl and is smaller then the hand carved length wise. If you are looking for pure performance the classic is best and cheap, but for a beautiful piece the hand carved is very elegant. I was thinking about the aluminum one with the wood top for easy cleaning as my next VG. I really do love these things and will also have to get a bronze sherlock. When VAS hits it hits hard!!!:argh::leaf:

Anyone try the aluminum VG? Not the bats, the classic model with the aluminum body + recessed bowl. Curious if the flavor will be cleaner than my handcarved. I love the look and feel of the handcarved but the metal classic would be a nice, indestructible alternative for outdoors.

They do get pretty hot with an extended session but i thought it was pretty tasty and also the ability to clean it with iso or soap can be a plus since you can get rid of 100% of the residue which is kind of impossible with the wood. I too prefer my teak hand carved these days though and passed along my aluminum and glass VGs.

:2c: ... :peace:

The wood isn't really easily destructible in my experience either though, seems all but the glass should last me a lifetime with minimal care.

I'm in the same situation as you I love my hand carved vapor genie, but I want something pure tasting and easily cleanable.

Bronze is amazing and easily cleaned while being pretty durable.

Lord knows I really want one. but with a hand carved and two classics (and my vg ss bat,the one and only vape i've owned i find pretty much totally useless. Does anyone out there actually use one ?) I can't justify buying one right now.

Agreed, it's my favorite for sure. I recall one of their Engineers saying so as well, and he could have the pick of the litter I suspect.

Two other features (aside from the cooling effect of the metal mass) are the 'heft' of it and the location of the bowl. It's very easy to see, and therefore aim the fire at.

A fun 'work of art' kind of thing, that's getting a nice patina with use. Someday it might look like the statue in the park.......minus the pigeon droppings of course.

I have both the Al. and HC. TBH I wasn't crazy about it at first, but have warmed up to it. It had a weird taste at first but improved over time...probably as it seasoned with a thick inner coat of reclaim. Anyway, I probably have a slight preference towards the HC. I honestly believe that the assorted. VGs add character to the vapor depending on the construction material. The Al. definately cools the vapor which probably explains why I tend to combust more frequently with this piece.

I bought the bronze sherlock as agift for my kid. It's nice and I'd love to use it except he's on a non-green diet for a couple of years so it's non-THC blends thru it for a while.

Glass Sherlock VG, you're the one,
That makes my vapor thick,
A pinch in the hole, and blaze on top,
whenever I feel sick,

Vapor flows through window of glass,
As I "torch a rip"
Visible fumes knock me on my ass
After individual sip.

Wood is good, but Coil's just fair
I don't like to fight for a hit,
Bats are fun, but only for one,
Glass Sherlock wins from where I sit!
