Discontinued FlowerMate V8.0 by Smiss

Accuphase

Sorry for my basic English
@furiousfil: I'm wondering, is your pathway from the heating chamber to the mouthpiece
made out of glass, stainless steel or ... ?
And can you remove your glass mouthpiece, because in this Wizard Puff unboxing there was a Glass
Mouthpiece in a little package included, but in their Review they dosen't really explain how it works
with the extending Mouthpiece.

Still not cancelled my order on Mass Drop, just hope it ain't add a smell.

Ah thanks for your confirmation. Judging from the airpath design I thought as well that it is a hybrid of convection and conduction (well all convection vapes will heat up the chamber over time). More convection would've been nice but for the current MD price it's fair enough. I'll just get it from MD. Hard to get a good vape oversea for 80€ anyway :)

edit: oh btw is the bottom glasspiece removeable? because if it's not it seems hard to clean

Something I was wondering about is the bottom of the oven getting gummed up. On the V5 the mouthpiece gets gummed up pretty quick but you can remove the screen and easily clean it. With the V8 the oven is upside down so your drawing air through the bottom of the oven.

I've been out of the loop for awhile, this vaporizer sure looks promising. You'd think a tremendous company like Smiss would know better than shipping "betas" with a side of reeking glue, though.

From what I can see its a glass inner pipe, but I can't tell what the outer piping is made from it doesn't look shiny. Unfortunately it appears to be unremovable (due to the v8 being a sealed unit with no visible screws etc), so it will be hard to clean. Currently it's not been a problem, but again as its not removable over time it could be an issue. Although at the moment a quick brush down and it looks as good as new.

The glass mouthpiece in the box is just a spare for the one already in the vaporizer, out of the box. Also to answer @Accuphase it's easily removable, it just slides out.

The permanent glass gauze end or bottom of the chamber (enclosed in the swing arm) looks to be more of an issue as can already see small bits of herb collecting underneath. From what I can tell is not removable. Which could become a potential problem over time.

I'd love to see more pictures of these description if possible. I can't always get a sense of what people are talking about when they describe these issues.

Sorry it's not a simple attach the photo process and I really can't be bothered to set up a URL. My apologies!

Oh dear! Just watched a review on YouTube that was damning of the v8. Mainly due to this glue taste that's been experienced here! But also inconsistent temperatures.
I guess I could agree with the inconsistent temps but had put it down to the following:
Again I have little experience with vaporisers. I believe that the chamber & heating element is reaching the shown temperature. But it takes a little while longer to heat the contents of your ceramic bowl. As each time you take a draw, the temps of your herbs reduce. Then the herbs need time to catch up with the temp of the ceramic chamber? So I'm of the opinion the temps shown on the display is for the heating element/ceramic chamber, and not the temperature of your herbs inside?! I have found if you leave about a minute before your next/ first draw after it reaches the stated temps. Then there doesn't appear to be an issue! Other devices may be able to keep your herbs at high temps during constant use?
It could just be that the v8 isn't very good, with little to nothing to compare it to I'm not really the best person to judge. But so far for me and a few friends who have tried it, it's a great vape which opens your mind to the world of vaping!

I can't find the review. I tried several different searches. In fact I'm still having trouble finding much discussion on the internet about this model.

Vapor Sloth
Its by the WizardPuff guys. I watched the video and they did a good job outlining the device. Even without the glue taste I wouldn't buy one of these, its huge.

mod note: Please don't link to anything Wizard Puff.

They're not tremendous yet, otherwise they wouldn't have sent out units that shouldn't be used.

In fact I'm still having trouble finding much discussion on the internet about this model.
That's because they may not have shipped an actual working unit to anyone yet.

I heard they were retailed overseas already and mine is on its way across the oceans... Unless the retailers are somehow sending out large numbers of preproduction models. Possible but would be a strange move to send out dozens of beta models knowing they would be on sold when only one or two is needed per retailer for testing.

That's been their process so far. We just haven't seen a report on an actual production unit yet.

Nope. It was dumb to send out even a single unit with glue in it, but surely the ones that were shipped as 'samples' or whatever were few in number and NOT in retail packaging.

Cool. Nice to know my logic wasn't skewed. Although there are numerous examples in history of rushed and stuffed productions in manufacturing, so I am prepared for the worst and hopeful for the best. I'm not saying that any company should get any leeway, especially when it comes to something related to health, but life is too short for me to dwell on it.

Fingers crossed then mine doesn't have the glue smell. It's been sent from the U.S. from a retailer with multiple units. I must be one of the early adopters for a change. I still expected some noise out of Europe or Asia first...

I'll post up a brief review the week after next when I get a chance to test it.

I don't know what they did with the beta samples... My contact told me it was one of their engineers who "used glue", and from what I understood the samples were hand assembled and checked... They told me the glue was safe, I don't know if it is, I just know that I don't like its smell.

It's starting to vanish but I lost count of the number of empty burn-ins... It's quite possible it would be covered by the plant smell after a few bowls but that would be masking the problem only, I'd prefer to let it cure and out-gas as much as possible.

Now my contact told me clearly "this problem is resolved, let's move on". They asked me if I wanted a new sample now or if I wanted to wait for the mass production run in about two weeks: "I got the FM8 sample from our engineer today, he didn't put any glue in it but the sample has been tested with tobacco once, so it has a smell of tobacco..."

I opted for the tobacco smelling sample and it has been sent this morning. I thought it would be better to get it fast to conclude my review as soon as possible... I'll keep you informed.

PS: as I said in the FM5 thread earlier, the plant being illegal in China and not part of their culture (excepted in south Yunan maybe?) they can't and don't test their units with it. It surely explains why they possibly under-looked how messy it can get when vaporized.

IMO glue can't really be safe when heated and inhaled, I might be wrong but thats what I was always told...

We will just have to wait, until we can get out hands on a V8.

Mmmm, love the smell of glue in the morning.

BTW, went to Mass General in Boston today, they block FC on their Wi-Fi: "pornographic matter, blocked."
No FC, all day.

To be fair in my defence. It came in a retail box, with all the accessories and instruction manual. It was also sold as 'new' and not a 'preproduction model' or 'beta model?'
Mine did have a QC (quality control) sticker on the back of it near the bottom. Since I have not had this glue smell/taste, I'm of the opinion is you wouldn't normally get a QC sticker if it hadn't been QC'd (usually on a production line) I don't know if the other v8's tested here had this QC sticker?
You can choose to believe that I own one that works or not. The only proof I can offer is my Avatar, and if you look closely (slightly green) you can still see the 'herb' that has collected on the surround of the lower glass gauze. I just hope everyone that's bought one is happy with theirs when when they arrive?

Does your unit still has an internal glass straw? I also had the QC sticker on the back, but yesterday I poked around in the device and used a flash light to look inside. I don't know how I could have missed it the first time but the glue is quite visible at the base of the internal glass straw (my contact told me it was used between the bowl junction and the internal glass)

I imagine they did this because the mating with the glass was not perfect and the seal was not 100% airtight maybe? It's quite possible the glue used was some sort of silicone sealant. They gave me the brand name but after a quick search it appears this company is making a lof of different glues, from epoxy to acrylic, to silicone... including CPU thermal paste...

Anyways, as they said, let's move on! How is the vapor output and taste with your unit?

it might be silicone which is safe (after a little bit heating because otherwise it has hazard vapor) but since you'll get a new unit you could try to find a way to open the unit. It would be awesome because I think after a lot of useage you have to open it for cleaning but well I should just be patience and wait for my device :) still I think I made an amazing deal for $69 if mine has a glue smell I will try to mod it^^

My buddy has one and it is just an extra mouthpiece. And the mouthpiece is held by suction/o rings.
To be honest the device is bulky and the taste is not so good. I feel like smiss screwed up again, similar to their G3 Vaporizer.

As far as I can tell its glass but pretty hard to tell can only see a small part of it. It's shiny and approx 1mm thick, so I pressume it to be glass. It looks black in colour, but that's probably just the angle! I looked hard but see no sign of silicone, and as I can't taste anything other than the sweet herbs. I think I've been lucky with the unit I have received.
I don't doubt others have had the glue issue, but I can honestly say I've not had this experience. Maybe mine does have silicone holding it together but I guess it has a better fit leaving little to no silicone being exposed to the heat?

That's because you bought a production model, not a sample that shouldn't have been shipped. You're not in the U.S. and therefore have access to actual production units. Smiss (so far) markets their new models in Europe before they're released in North America.
