Discontinued VRIPtech Heating Wand

SunnyHours

Well-Known Member
SunnyHours sorry to hear about what sounds like an element failure --- keep in mind the elements contain both the actual element and the thermocouple so either internal component failing can cause a loss in heat, but only one will cause the loss of heat AND red light not blinking. Depending upon how long you've had it Mark often tells the tech to just repair it under warranty even if it is beyond the warranty period: a true case by case basis. I think we've already been in contact via info@vriptech.com, but just in case please send details there and I'll make sure to lobby for the best (and most cost effective) solution for you. Our warranty is only 90 days on the heaters because we sometimes get customers who absolutely abuse the units and then want them warrantied --- we'll often do it once with a warning, but obviously can't sustain business that way hence the case by case basis. We'll get you back to Vripping ASAP!

Indeed we've already clarified everything. I'll be sending it ASAP!
Thanks!

SunnyHours,
Sorry for the slow reply family Mark had been traveling out of pocket and I wanted him to give me an update on the new VHW cover to give you an accurate heads up on the new pieces --- the heater manufacturer now has a sample of the new cover the way we want to change the method of attachement (we're trying an alternative approach to the retaining screw) and we are still awaiting their reply on whether or not they can do it that way and how much --- the million dollar question!!! The great news is that on the glass front we've got the new bowls tooled and dialed and only need to get the new glass screens made (slightly smaller than the current large glass screen and slightly bigger than the current small glass screen). Since we will continue to make pieces to support the legacy units out there we will likely start selling the new bowls with upper intakes to accept the existing wand with tip seal and, of course, our old stand-bys the Steinel heat guns before the whole new VHW set up is available. Stay posted and thanks for the patience and support!

can we get a ballpark timeframe of when the new vrip will be available?

Sounds good SunnyHours appreciate the support and patience. Mini Bones I hate giving timeframes because it always seems to jinx it and then a new delay pops up!!! If I was a betting type though from what I've seen so far I'd say 6-8 weeks on the new bowls becoming available for current VHW and HG applications and more like 12 weeks on the new wand cover and matched new intake assuming the heater manufacturer gets back to us with an affirmative on the change we need them to make in the next 2-3 weeks as expected. I know I know….wish it was sooner too! Really looking forward to never having a lower bowl to upper intake fit issue again ha! And I'm really, really looking forward to the new VHW with full glass on glass interface to the intake it's going to be a sick, sick set up!!!

Now I hate to be short but I've got one of the new protos ready to go with some cherry pie with c6 (high CBD) freezer shatter on top just waiting to be melted for bedtime….night everyone!

Hi Guys,

I am seriously contemplating making a purchase, but I need to sort out a few questions. Perhaps they have been answered before, but after going through the last 10 or so pages, my eyes are hurting. It is probably easier to just ask away:

1) It seems that this unit is best used with a water tool. Many other vapes work fine without it. Is there a reason, and can this be used without water?
2) The wand seems very fragile. Is there a good working solution for carrying it around, say, to a friend's house? A case or the original boxing...etc.?
3) What is sequential venture? I understand that to mean stages of reduced flow cross section area. But how is it different than just a single step down and where does this process happen? (Kinda relates to whether I need to buy the whole set or just mix pieces (bowl) from other sources and still get the same result).
4) I am going to buy a heat gun locally and likely purchase the corresponding bowl to go with it just for fun. Does it work well, kinda like assisted draw Herbalizer style or is it a completely different process. I would imagine stuff flying all over the place when you try to attach a blower to a bowl.
5) I live in Hong Kong and plan to get a non-US version. Our power source is 220V, and the UK one is 230 and the Australian is 240. Will I have a problem or should I get the US version and pair it with my 1000W step down converter (220->110)?

Thanks in advance and looking forward to the new version.

What's up Dom thanks for taking the time to ask great questions I'll do my best to knock them out in order and if anything isn't clear or needs more detail just let me know and I'll get Mark on it tonight.

1) The founder of VripTech is big on moisture conditioning and cooling with water and/or ice because studies on the damage caused by smoking indicate that it's really more the heat/dryness that is the problem so even though vapor is cleaner if it is still warm and dry it will irritate the lungs. You can use the Vrip VHW or Steinel HG/VCB or VCBS system with a small bubbler though and even run it dry if that is your preference; we ahve alot of customers who run ice only. We even have customers who put our Vapor Bat or a similar "bat" right up to the end of the wand and still benefit the all glass, neutral polarity heating source, but get a VERY direct extraction and delivery of minimally oxidized dry vapor out of preference. Remember that the MAPS/NORML water pipe and vaporizer study that showed how much actives where lost to water when running the smoke through a water pipe where done with smoke not vapor so large water soluable tar particles where also present --- with vapor you'll still lose some actives of course but much less than with smoke and given how much more you're extracting and not destroying in the process it's a worthy trade-off in our take on the subject.
2) The wand is definitely not going to survive drops or bonks like a wood box with a plastic hose, a plastic bag on a plastic/metal valve or even one of the STeinel heat guns --- but it delivers flavor and concentration potential that none of the preceding can even come close too. We do sell a complete vapor ninja secret agent kit we call the 007 VHW kit that comes with a real pelican case and custom foam insert. We've been asked a few times to create a smaller kit for just the VHW/VCBS but it hasn't happened yet. There are a number of glass pipe storage and transport solutions out there that can be used though --- check out VOLO trading's product line.
3) The sequential venturi patented Vrip difference is simply one venturi taking place just prior to the convective hot air flow hitting the herb/substrate and then another venturi taking place under it (as with a regular bowl) so you get a more substantial acceleration through the substrate that helps deliver broader spectrum vapor in the case of herbs that have a broad temperature range across which the terpenes (flavor) and actives release --- as with many medicinal herbs of choice. This consideration is ultra important to the Vrip difference because most vaporizers will deliver flavor first and by the time the actives release the flavor is drying out --- this is what really set's this system apart. You can definitely make an herbalizer type bowl work (think the original Eagle Bill set-up), but with a directed intake you'll get less herbs flying all over and broader spectrum vapor.
4) If you're using a Steinel heat gun as the heat source it is very much like an herbalizer with an assited draw --- you don't have to prime it as long as you would with the herbalizer or our VHW without air assist. Use the lowest airflow though is our recommendation to minimize oxidation of the vapor.
5) You should be good either way with the Steinel heat guns but if you where going with our VHW I'd say go the step down route and use the US version to be safest.

Hope that helps! Thanks again for the interest and asking great questions.

Alright family this is Mark here with some great news --- we've now got the Vrip 4.2 VCBs in short run production and I've got some pics of the production equivalent proto we've been putting through the paces the last few weeks. Very close to the earlier pics posted except the intake is much shorter so the heat much closer and more efficient.

They will be available direct from vriptech.com ONLY for the at least the first few production runs before available through any distributors --- we expect to have them on the website available for purchase within the next week to ten days with rough pics and super polished Nebu pics soon thereafter! Thanks Nebu couldn't do it without ya!

The new VCB 4.2s feature:

* a custom ground joint bowl with a straight bore inner diameter and a screen shelf for which we have new custom sized honeycomb glass screens --- our sequential venturi is preserved even though the outer surface tapers opposite!
* standard 14.4mm size down joint (we’ll have adaptors for those that run the 18.8mm normally because we find that the 14.4mm simply is the best flow rate for vapor ---- if enough customers demand we make it in 18.8mm we likely will, but 14.4mm will be the only size available initially)
*the new upper intake assembles to the lower bowl by way of a ground glass taper joint connection instead of a compression o-ring so, of course, the fit and seal will be PERFECT every time and features a non-offset SPHERICAL INTERFACE instead of the tooled offset interface of the current intakes (we have been listening to the feedback!)

The benefits are numerous:

*the spherical interface enables one VCB to accept all the heat sources we currently support (i.e. All current and past models of the VHW, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0, and all Steinel made heat guns), as well as, the future VHW model currently in development (we’re shooting for production by spring) that will feature a male socket joint that perfectly matches the spherical interface so you can hold it at many different angles and still have a seal!
* if the user is good with holding any of the current or legacy VHWs straight into the intake then no seal is needed so for the “purists” (or those who cook through tip seals --- you know who you are!) this is a win
*for a more forgiving seal, i.e. Wand doesn’t need to be perfectly straight, most of the existing tip seals work just great or we’ll have a fancy viton (higher temp than medical silicon) seal that will actually enable some of the additional benefits of a spherical interface to be enjoyed on current and legacy VHWs, i.e. You can hold it at a bit of an angle and can “finesse” the temp of the pull by cracking the seal and re-sealing with just slight angle adjustments that are easily visible to the user
*because the intake is straight and clear between the spherical interface and the taper to the bowl the optics are greatly improved making it extremely easy to see the herbs as they are heated --- you can literally see the color change as you melt glands and extract vapor and if you pause you can see the vapor slightly back pressure into the intake the rate of which gives you a pretty good idea of what rate of extraction you where getting at the point of pause (we’re putting the Vrip decal down low on the intake so there is an uninterrupted straight line of sight to the herbs)
*optional clip on handle instead of a glass handle that is often the first part to break (wand users really don’t even need a handle IMHO because the glass is thick enough that it doesn't get that hot)
*Shorter distance from heat tool nozzle seating position so higher temps possible for those that prefer hybrid smoke/vapor and/or melt alot of concentrates and want ALL GLASS PURITY
*PERFECT FIT AND SEAL EVERY TIME!!!
*THICKER AND AND MORE ROBUST GLASS that has been ground more than tooled under a torch so they will last longer and survive a farther drop before breaking!!!

I’m sure I’m forgetting something, but suffice to say you’re going to be stoked if Flavor Country is where your heart is!

The first runs are short runs of only 50 pieces at a time so they’ll go fast, but we’ll ramp up production based upon demand and/or as soon as the current VCBs are all sold out (we still have stock so will be selling through those in parallel and then they are gone).

I'll include a few pics of the new VripDab insert proto we've been playing with for your concentrated viewing pleasure too!

Shiznit --- As usual I'm having issues with images loading and I have to get up early tomorrow so I'm going down for the count and will come back to the images tomorrow to resize them or something --- sorry for the viewing hassle the links are there though for anyone that can't wait to see the new pieces lightly seasoned and in use with a real nice Matrix Stereo PerK…. Cali Glass Represent!

mod note: Fixed. You would be better off hosting images elsewhere since Dropbox makes it difficult to share with a direct link to the photo.

I have my broken Gen 2 wand still and lots of bowls... If I wanted to upgrade to this, what exactly would I need? I guess the latest replacement sheath for the wand and the new bowls? Is the wand glass still the same? Great to see you back and active. This thing was my first real clean vape...

Right on WAX I know Mark was talking some video action this weekend (we've been getting email requests too) I'll make sure he sees the posted request, but to be clear you're looking to see all the new 4.2 kit with raw materials that is about to be red2go for everyone and the VRIP DAB protonail with some melty right?

Snidely the great news is that your VHW 2.0 would work fine with the VCB 4.2 --- the ability of the new spherical interface to work for all the heat tools we support is one of the greatest parts of the new kit IMHO! You may want to try it without a silicon tip seal as that's how I've been using it only down side is that you have to hold it very straight, or you can use it with the standard tip seal as long as it's installed nice and straight on the down side (we'll throw another tip seal in no worries if you submit a request with your order --- it appears ones 1-1.25 cm work best, or we'll have a fancier Viton tip seal retro-fit option soon that basically gives you a little more contact with the spherical interface so the seal is more forgiving, i.e. you have more angles of seal). If you don't have a 2.0 glass cover though the bad news is you'll need to upgrade to a complete 3.0 because the 3.0 element required a change to the way the glass cover was tooled --- since you have a 2.0 though you qualify for the Bro-Form courtesy pricing on upgrade just message me or send an email to info@vriptech.com and we'll get you dialed.

The great news is that even with the glass on glass connection now the VRIP sequential venturi that gives us the rate and breadth of extraction benefit over other approaches has been maintained. This wasn't easy as standard off the shelf joints actually taper the opposite direction on the inner diameter from what we needed which is why previous efforts to go GonG didn't perform to our satisfaction. Mark finally found an American partner that was able to specially tool a customized 19mm joint with a straight bore ID on the top bowl part and perfect screen shelf. VRIP vapor quality with GonG simplicity and a perfect fit and seal every time. Stay posted more to come.

Alright family Mark here posting a bit more proper video showing the new VCB4.2 in use with our VHW 3.0 WITHOUT a tip seal (tip seal would give a little more range of angle that would still seal) and the VWT PerK. The Chiesel never tasted so good; you can literally watch it brown through the course of the pulls...Enjoy! Oh, and a heads up while I'm on here --- I was outvoted --- although I consider the 14.4mm flow rate perfect for milking it thick and blue so was going to just push adapters (we have some nice flush mount reducers) for those of you with 18.8mm accepting downstems upgrading to the 4.2 kit we are now tooling up a reduced ID 18.8mm (VCB4.2_18.8mm) that will be the best of both worlds: cleaner solution straight across than using an adapter and just a tad larger ID so the flow rate is just slightly less resistance than with the 14.4mm pieces...yup ShadowVape made sure I was listening!

What up family just a heads up to wish everyone a Merry Christmas hopefully Santa delivered in spades and apologize for anyone that got skunked by our VHW back order last week --- another production run of glass covers should be completed today and any back orders from last week and new orders will be shipping again early next week. Also, we should have an update on the VCB4.2_18.8mm pieces by early next week --- they weren't quite finished, but are in process so right around the corner. Give thanks and don't think too hard about what those New Year's Resolutions should be --- actually, there it is: Don't Think Too Hard --- practice some Not Knowing. That's going to be mine anyway!

Thanks to everyone that gave us feedback, patiently waited and then gave us more feedback --- ALL POSITIVE to date on the new VCB 4.2 kit. We've now sold through just shy of two production runs of the new 4.2 kit in just the last month of 14'!!! You've made it possible for us to keep our own VHW heat wands on and VCB bowls full of headies to melt and enjoy (all in the name of R&D of course).

The VRIP Evolution continues in '15 with the VHW 4.2 update in progress, the VRIPDAB Proto-Nail concentrate insert for VCB4.2s, and even another portable surprise (all glass heating of course) we have up our sleeve. Happy New Year and thanks for the support we couldn't have done it without you! We just posted something to this extent on Twitter @VripTech, but wanted to post on FC.com specifically because you all have been the most consistent and zealous in your feedback and support --- it hasn't gone unnoticed.

We're a company started by a Flavor and Quality Obsessive Vaporist for Flavor and Quality Obsessive Vaporists that don't exactly fit in just anywhere. Thanks to FC.com founders for creating the venue to "fit in" and the moderators for maintaining the vibe. Look forward to hanging and sharing more melty goodness in 2015.

Great question mixchu69 our legacy bowls have been used with glass beads and even honeycomb glass screen stacks for all glass heating, extraction and delivery straight concentrate vaping, but it's a little clumsy and messy. Of course, you can just put concentrates on top of ground flowers and it works amazing!!! Clean concentrated flavor like nothing else. That said, the new 4.2 kit that we just dropped end of '14 has a VRIPDAB proto-nail insert that is currently in development and we hope to have in production by spring. There is a couple of pictures of a prototype a page back in this thread I'll post again:
msgbvm.jpg

vfh50.jpg

The next generation prototypes are even longer so that there is the option of more heat for those that want faster extractions --- in other words, it puts the concentrate right below the glowing orange end of the glass heat wand. That way you can hybrid smoke/vaporize or purely slow vape for a more medical approach at your option. We weren't completely satisfied with the air/vapor flow pattern at the bottom of the insert which is why there has been ongoing development. Concentrates vape so clean and the VRIP is designed for large extractions so the flow rate has to be reduced if you want clean vapor to condense. Of course, you can just overheat it like a lot of other systems do and fake it, but that wouldn't be our style!

Sorry Happygolucky we did get a vid of the new VCB4.2 in action posted a page back on the thread before Mark left for EU until spring and I know we where playing with the VRIPDAB protonail the same session, but the video was focused on use with flowers (90+% of our customer's focus) because at the time the new prototype was still in the queue and we didn't want to promote literally the first gen proto shown in the pic above.

I'll post the vid of the 4.2 kit here again for you to get an idea of how the system works with flowers in case you're not familiar with the VRIP "Higher Aromatherapy" "Preserved Ritual" "Vaporization Tool" approach to vaporization --- same concept with concentrates except you'd have the protonail inserted into the bowl which reduces the flow rate and positions the concentrate right below the heat source for more heat/faster melt:

What up family just wanted to post update here for anyone waiting on the new VCB4.2_18.8mm pieces they are due to drop next Thurs and we will also be restocked on the VCB4.2_14.4mm pieces same time. Anyone in the queue now for a 14.4mm should have a piece allocated, but we're out until end of next week after that sorry for the delay --- tooling and grinding!!! Tooling and grinding!!!
