Concentrates for Noobs - Q&A

To do CO2 effectively commercially, you need a machine that recycles CO2 and uses a pump to maintain pressure. This costs around 10-15k for a custom unit. The extraction takes a lot longer than Butane, but the post processing is much less. Vac purging CO2 is mostly to obtain the form you want it in or to thicken it up a bit.

I own a small-scale CO2 extractor.

All of it. The stuff I left in the pyrex over night, to scrape the day after, turned to a golden very light green colour before I pressed it.

It has a light taste, the smell is more of a scent when vaped and it hits hard, with properties from both the indica and the sativa components it's made from.

It is hard, and crack even in room temp, but it turns soft in your hands.

Noob question.
So I have read about people winterizing qwiso when using cocentrates like kief or hash. Is this a good method or is based on nothing and wast of time and money?

Also any tips on making a heady qwiso?

@freddibjr do you know there is a search bar at the top? I realize this is the Q/A for noobs thread but literally 100% of your questions have been answered in this thread or others, it would be infinitely easier for you to just search "kief qwet" than for someone to try and summarize the pages and pages of information you could read on it.

I would highly recommend you actually read up on the subject before asking questions and then come back here with the ones you still can't figure out.

Edit: @calimed how much did your C02 extractor cost? Would you tell us the name?

Looked up those questions and I got a bunch o basic science that didnt even specify what there using or process at all isnt this a forum? Or a righteous stoner community? Come on man

Dude, you have a post count of 19 & have started 9 different threads as a part of those 19 posts.
This is not a righteous stoner community, but it is a community none the less.
This particular community is based on giving and not taking.

All of your questions have been answered ad nauseum.
Starting 9 new threads asking the same many times over tired old answered questions doesnt contribute anything.
Especially when all you have to do is read a bit for yourself & we wont have to get all self righteous over spoon feeding you.

God helps those who help themselves my friend.

So please either take some time & read the relevant threads or alternatively take some time & make friends with someone here who has the knowledge you seek.

Then when others come here expecting everyone else to pony up all the answers without actually looking for them, you can be the bigger person and just answer all their questions for them.

over & over & over again.

how does age of material effect color of qwiso oil and hash oil in general?
I have done several washes this week exactly the same way and have gotten varying colors but.im thinking it has to do with age because my friend gave me several bags of shwag hes had for a while but all from the same sog. So im assuming its the same quality it was all semi sticky but again I didnt realy check so im assuming.

Has anyone experimented with doing everclear for the first wash and iso for the subsequent washes? Just asking as everclear is pretty hard to get where I am but iso is easy. Currently have one bottle of everclear and don't really anticipate getting more anytime soon.

Anhy means anhydrous, or in other words, it contains no water. That would be a good thing, but most of results from a google search are showing up as denatured ethanol. Basically, they add methanol to raise the toxicity and limit human consumption (you can drink it but it might kill you).

Bouldorado,
I really don't want to read through 41 pages, can anyone tell me what differentiates "good" quality extracts from "lower quality" extracts?

I am not talking about if there is any butane or other solvents left in the finished products, it is implied here.

I am talking about whether I want winterized product over honeycomb, or see through shatter over opaque CO2 oil. What tells me the extract I have is high quality?

I heard smoking the plant waxes is really bad for you, but since the molecule attached is not actually a wax i wonder if this is true for cannabis extracts?

Any thoughts?

If your asking about potency, I believe the "quality" all has to do with your starting material nug/leaves/shake/shwag etc. IME different strains and purge temp effect the consistency the most.

Is this what ur asking?

no, obviously garbage in garbage out, right? Using higher quality input will produce high quality output.

That too, is given.

i did a little reading and I am right, smoking budder or wax or any extracted cannabis that has not gone through the second extraction process is much harder on my lungs and causes me to cough and wheeze a lot more after hitting,

Shatter is a smoother smoke for sure. I think it tastes just as good as wax or budder, better in fact.

Wax n budder are usually achieved from higher purge temps and/or whipping. More heat equals less terps. That's why the shatter tastes nd smells better.

technically, more terps would translate to more flavor, as terpinoids and flavinoids are what give things they unique taste and smell.

However, "more" is not always "better" and I guess it depends on your preference, but I don't see why anyone would smoke wax or budder over shatter given the choice.

I think you two are agreeing - @NickDlow said more heat = less terps, and said that forms other than shatter tend to take more heat.

Few questions about BHO, any experienced wax makers on here can share some tech?

1. Do you vac purge over a hot plate through out the whole purging process?

2. How long do I keep the muffin going before I fully let it fall down?

3. At what point should I take the wax out of the chamber and flip it over to purge the other side?
What type of consistency am I looking at? Is their a desired time that I'm looking at before I flip?

4. After I get pass questions 2 and 3, How long are you suppose to full vac for? Am I leaving it on full vac at about 98-105F over a hot plate? Or do I constantly release the air when it's full and monitor the pump for hours on?

P.S. - I've watched and listen to Bret's video on purging many times? I just need people to elaborate on the purging process before I actually go on my first run.

i recently picked up some budder/wax... it looks like creamy peanut butter. there was no vac purge done on this run, but it was whipped. anyway, is a vac purge necessary? this is BHO and i normally am dealing with qwet so vac purging doesnt matter.

this stuff isnt stringy when you pull it apart. nor is it crumbly. in fact it almost has a shiny finish almost like its greasy. the best way to describe this is what silly putty looks like.

anyway, should i do anything else with it? i would prefer if this would crumble. its made from girl scout cookies and the flavor is muted. my guess is that heat was used to purge it.

so do i attempt to process it further or just use it? its very potent so thats good. any suggestions?

having dealt with this stuff now makes me appreciate shatter even more.
