@THC SCIENTIFIC how would one go about replacing their outer shield & mouthpiece for their SR-74? Long story short, got too medicated & tossed it in the trash by accident. And the "vaporizer" has had my attention for a while now, any idea on a release date?

So just got done with dinner with the gf's family friends. Herc/nibbler made the rounds for a couple hours with one embarassing reload sesh... oil everywhere from abuse of a party. Took 10 minutes to scrape the reclaim, torch and iso the contacts, and she fires like new! On a gen 1 top no less!!

I think I prefer the 7,4v kiss to the 3.7v. I feel it will teach me how to handle my sr71. Im getting used to feeling of oil vapor taste and feeling and the power of 7.4v. Like to finish a whats left in my cart, I feel I have to go to "too hot temp". Im trying to find a balance there.

Im learning. Slowly, and happilly :smug:

what is the maximum power the sr71 7.4 rod can handle without damaging anything? i would like to try it on a 100watt mod i'm picking up for ejuice. sony vtc5 batteries will handle the 18amps or so it's gonna pull if set at the full 100 watts but how much can the herc take? it's more of a curiosity then a need. with the iris i usually only use around 28-30 watts for a good mix of flavor of vapor delivery.

I don't know what the max power is that the ceramic heating rod can handle without damage but I do know that an SR71 "7.4v" rod varies between 1.5-1.7 ohms at room temperature. And for a 1.5 ohm resistance to put out 100 watts you would need 12.25 volts at 8.16 amps.

But, remember that the ceramic heater increases in resistance quite a bit as it gets hot. On my Iris I (used to ) see the resistance about 30% higher right after a hit. If the heater resistance increases to 2.2 ohms it would take about 15 volts to maintain 100 watts.

So, if it were me, I would avoid any constant wattage mode and stick with constant voltage.

Good luck. I've never heard of anyone burning out a heating rod in the Herc. You could be the first! :science:

Is it wise to leave the core plugged in all the time? I'm getting a bit tired of having to plug and unplug it everytime.. :\

I don't leave mine in all the time ( but mine mostly gets used in the car.). Might I suggest a power strip with a switch that you could place nearby. Then you can switch on when you need it. @THC SCIENTIFIC
IMO that is one of he things that I would change on the CORE. To add a Power Switch. Also a softer wire to the attachment. Maybe have the Core plug into the side of the insert instead of the bottom.

Ok I'm rambling... Back to the Enail...

Yesterday I paired my Persei with my Donut atty (from Divine tribe....not Uptech...sorry) at 3.7v (battery) with the correct adaptater to fit the 510 threading of the donut....

performances was a lot more impressive than with the previous X6 battery I got (dead after some months), a little bit less cloudy than my sr-74 but really quick heating time and taste is comparable to the hercule (and you can too load a 0.3 or more in!)

It's like an humble small hercules.....yes it is!

About the core. I have mine plugged all the time since 3 weeks, and a usb fridge running through the usb outlet. I decided that if it needed to be turned off, there would be a mention about it in the instruction manual. Or an on/off switch.

I've had mine plugged in for over a year, but though a UPS that runs my computer as well. My only issue is seeing it on sale for half the price I pre-ordered it for ;)

we do have older versions of the mouth piece and outer shield, they dont have the SR71 or Sr74 engraved on it, but its a complete kit with the older bottom adapter.

They cost $20 plus shipping if you still want it let me know.

Any news on the button assemblys? I wanted to buy just the white plastic part since mine melted on the threads. I don't mind if its the older button or new. It just the screw is now at angle and it won't fire as good anymore.

yeah that lines up with exactly what i've observed. 1.5ohms cool and about 2.2 when hot.
the mod i'm ordering DOES push 12v so i'm not too worried about that. i'll be pushing the thing to the limit but i wouldn't try if i thought i was gonna fry something.

thing is i fried my persei top that i use for ecigs. pop, hiss, burnt smell, doesn't fire anymore. for the exact cost of my persei warranty i can have this 100w beast with vv and vw options to run my ejuice instead of using my expensive oil vape.
i still use the hammer and the iris for oil but neither is suited to ecig use, trust me i'm doing it as i write this. since i'm getting a mod technically sporting specs that can run the herc at high power i just wanna give it a try and see what happens.

if it works i will be leaving the iris at home at least until the v2 is available. i'm always terrified of that thing frying (cuz it likes to do things like fire at 7.4v when i have it set to 4v) and there is no other vv/vw option from uptech to replace it with if it breaks. took me 6 months to find a used iris for sale and i paid about as much for it.

unless it's hooked up to water filtration i usually only run the herc between 5v and 6.5v.
the herc doesn't NEED that much power. 20-30watts is a great amount of vapor with nice flavor preservation.

more of a need to know than a need to use it that way kinda thing, and i'm buying the thing anyway.

*edit while writing this i managed to fry another coil using the hammer as an ecig, haha. such a bad idea but i need nicotine!

My biggest gripe with W9/UpTech is the ~2 year delay (so far) for an Iris upgrade (@THC SCIENTIFIC ). I burned out my v1 Iris a few months ago (pop and burnt smell) and have had to rely on the barbaric practice of feathering the power button on my v2 top! Seems barbaric anyway after having gotten used to dialing in the power level with the Iris. Surprisingly my burnt out Iris still works to measure battery voltage and cart resistance. Just no power applied any more. If I knew how to take if apart I'd try to fix it.

Even without the Iris I think that the Persei/SR71 is the best vape available for me right now . It's been my daily driver for over a year and never failed me. I've grown to prefer vaping wax over vaping flowers. So convenient and I get significantly better THC efficiency with the SR-71 Hercules than with either of my flower vapes.

I used to prefer the 28-35 watt level with my Iris but that reflected the waxes I was using at the time plus my desire to get vapor as quick as possible from the Herc. Gotta love the ability to adjust the power level.

Looks like I've started to ramble... Looking forward to the results of your experiments. Probably will need to just tap the power button. If you do burn out the ceramic heating rod (which I doubt) it will probably just go cold. But if it were to shatter at least it's inside the stainless steel Herc body so you should be protected. But of course, as with all my advice, no warrenty expressed or implied! :)

*sighs* i'm doubly fucked now. this evening my hammer top also decided to take a shit on me and won't fire anything. no pop and hiss this time. just suddenly started flashing at me during use and now refuses to do anything other than flash at me.

does a persei warranty update cover ALL my broken persei stuff or do i have to buy one for every part that is breaking on me?

i'm down to the iris and pretty worried about considering i dropped my year's vape budget on this setup and it hasn't even survived a few months.

although i am buying this other mod for an ecig device it may be all i have left by the time it gets here. two tops failing in a week....brutal. if it does work with the sr71 it might have to be the new daily driver until i can afford to fix the persei. the sr71 is hard to live without. i left it at a friends for a week and went nuts. all other oil vapes just disappoint now.

*edit i'd REALLY like to see the iris v2...this would solve most of my problems and i'd stop freaking out. be nice if the v2 worked in 18650 mode. i have high hopes for her when she finally arrives

@Hashassin I know what you mean. I love my iris v1, but can't trust it to not fire max voltage whenever it wants. I've really been sitting on my w9 stuff waiting on the v4 tops and the iris v2. After that I've convinced myself I'll have what I need, but I have a feeling @THC SCIENTIFIC will change my mind with some sort of groundbreaking innovation to portable oil cape tech

If I were to order an sr71, do the titanium coils from the 74 fit correctly in the 71, or should I just buy the standard coils?

They should fit just fine. I have both the 71 and 74
FYI when I ordered my 71 it came with a coil already

The current offer on w9tech says no coil is included, that is why I asked.

edit: after re reading, it says no "titanium coil" is included, does this mean the standard coils are included? Can anyone that has bought the last of the sr71's confirm if it comes with a coil?

Thanks!
