In my opinion, the crafty outperforms the solo in terms of
  • Functionality - The app/bluetooth feature is amazing
  • The plastic is actually really nifty. Its like a vaporizer you could take up to space.
  • Definitely more portable than the solo. Smaller, Lighter, Built in mouthpiece
  • USB charging - all vapes should do this!

In my opinion, the solo outperforms the crafty in terms of
  • Efficient big Clouds. The solo produces considerably larger denser and more of. At level 6 vs Crafty at max temp. The solo definitely extracts more of the active ingredients, you can see it in the abv. If I continue vaping on the Crafty the abv will get darker, however there is no visible vapor - I personally do not like that, especially considering the fact that the solo can still produce dense enough clouds at this point.
  • Taste - Although the plastic seriously does not affect the vapor much, glass definitely tastes better. The Craftys plastic taste is virtually non existent although the solos glass still beats it.
  • Battery life and Price

this is the first post I actually read that the solo has "larger denser clouds" than the crafty.
I don't have a crafty/mighty to check for myself, but what about "extraction efficiency" everybody here talks about? (getting medicated with less hits)

After doing some more testing last night where I put .1 into the Crafty and .1 worth of material into a vapor brothers whip. I came to the following conclusions.

a) Yes you can get more visible vapor for more draws like someone said about the solo which is very similar. I got about 6-8 decent sized clouds from the Crafty at 180c and about 13-15 from the Vapor brothers with heat set at 10pm. Obviously we would all like to see more clouds utilizing the same amount of material.

b) You can't base the amount of visible vapor with the efficiency however. I realized that even though I was getting fewer # of clouds from the Crafty they were all more potent and seemed to extract more from each draw than the vb whip.

c) The combo of conduction/ convection on the crafty allows for the extraction to be more even and everything is extracted at the same rate versus the vbrothers method where you vaporize the outside of the material first and it eventually gets to the inside with more draws.

d) I turned up the temps to 400+ on the crafty and was able to get my abv to come out darker than the abv from the vb whip.

e) If you compare the abv of both you can clearly see that the crafty does a better job of even cooking.

I think I'm getting more efficiency from packing less in the Crafty, I normally use the oil pad but I'll try not using the oil pad going forward. Whenever I use around .2 I don't feel like I'm getting significantly more than I get with .1 with the oil pad.

I'm starting to look at my Crafty as a shot of liquor versus drinking a mixed drink with my VBrothers. Sometimes I do prefer the drawn out session with my VB as it psychologically feels like you're getting more bang for your buck time wise.

RE: The differences between the Solo and the Crafty - jackass20's post was the first that I had seen claiming the solo had more efficient big clouds than the Crafty. Granted, I haven't owned both vaporizers, but having used the Solo extensively, I can say this is not my experience. The Solo gives me more draws, but the draws themselves just aren't quite the same. The Solo's clouds look great, but they don't hit as hard nor last as long effect-wise as the Crafty's clouds do. This is a subtlety, but while I believe the Solo puts out great vapor, the Crafty is a notch above: truly top-shelf.

I think the fact that the Crafty doesn't put out as much at higher temperatures actually points to how the Crafty is more efficient: as mentioned earlier, the reason you're getting less is because most of the material has already been vaporized, at a lower temperature. That you have to go to a higher temperature on the Solo to extract more is itself evidence that it is not as efficient.

With that said, the Solo is a great vape. I just don't think it's as much of a powerhouse as the Crafty when it comes to how top-shelf the vapor is. Granted, I have an exceptionally high tolerance - most vapes don't even really work on me - so I think that if your tolerance is lower, one bowl in the Solo will likely last you longer than it would in the Crafty. Then again, you can always power it down and save it for later.

Got mine for a day now, and without any fanboyism I got to say I'm pretty fucking impressed.
Works much better than the Plenty, and that's the thing: it just works, delivers, brainless, pull by pull, and at the end there's just one evenly dark chunk of coffee.

Does anyone know if lollipop is (still?) causing issues?

Yep, sadly.

I'm impressed with the performance, not thrilled with the wireless connectivity.

How much of this device is made of plastic? I can't tell from photos if the body is metal or plastic?

I've never seen a vape that will allow the user to toggle the conduction and convection elements of it in real-time according to his or her preferences.
Funnily enough the haze has a conduction and convection screen so you can swap between modes. However it sounds gimmicky, vape critic said it does make a difference but didn't go into depth.

Still no feed back on Kief or Bubble been used???
I used a Kief sandwich on mine, it worked, but I can't help but feel I didn't get the clouds I should have. Although this Kief was very old. I'm just wondering if the kief went off because this thing is a beast with herbs.

Would have to respectfully disagree. I've had my solo for 9 month now.
The crafty gives bigger clouds but slightly less amount of draws. (crafty 180c and solo @ 4, 195c)
Absolute worst case scenario, even with half pack, I feel it is on par with my solo (granted less draws).

IMHO Flavour: the solo is slightly better flavour in the first draw or two... Then after that it quickly goes down hill... The crafty has consistently good flavour with only slight decline as time goes on.
I would choose to take a mid-session hit off my crafty as opposed to my solo any day.

All other points agree 100%

How much of this device is made of plastic? I can't tell from photos if the body is metal or plastic?
The whole body is plastic. Basically most of it is plastic (even the cooling unit and mouthpiece).

All wax was saying is that my post was clearly not hating, and that you were blatantly self reflecting.

As someone catching up from the previous page, I didn't see @VaporsVaporizer's post as being addressed to either you or @wax. It seemed to me to be a comment on the direction the thread had taken, but you two made it about you two. wax got a warning point for his rudeness, and I'm not convinced you shouldn't too.

If he was not talking about my post then I understand that my post was rude. However I would like to know what posts he was talking about as I want to see if there are any merits behind any criticisms of the Crafty. I went through about 50% of this thread and did not see anything similar to what I mentioned, before I purchased it. I wish I did because I would have opted to try out a couple of alternative units, since it doesnt personally offer me a great deal.

There obviously the possibility I may be doing something wrong as the solo gives me a more medicated feeling than the crafty when I am using them in the way i currently do. I am very open to getting the crafty to the point that I dont need to use the solo any more. I think the best test for me to do at this point would be to take the abv out of the crafty that is not producing visible vapor and to put it in the solo to see if the solo can extract anything out of the "extraction at its finest" abv of the crafty.

Pjake

It's all in the reflexes.
Evenin all! I'm sorry, I don't know how to quote posts but someone had quoted me asking a bit more about my technique to do a one hit. I usually pack half chambers with the liquid pad and use the technique I described earlier. I get 2 hits without raising the temp then 2-3 more by upping the temp incrementally. When I pack full chambers the vapor is just too potent for where I'm trying to go ☺️

Good idea!!! @jackass20 I will try putting my crafty abv in the solo and see what happens at Max.

I might even do a, side by side, solo/crafty output comparison this weekend. I'll get one of my friends to use the solo and myself the crafty (and vice versa) and we should be able to come a definitive conclusion using same grind and material.
But I know my solo pretty well and would he willing to bet anything the crafty gets better clouds.

@t-dub's video is a decent reference point I think, a nice long draw:

Your vapor is only going to be as good as your flower! It may well be better than the Solo however the Solo can be obtained for around $130... substantially less than the Crafty.

I just did a full round and a half round with the liquid pad 90 minutes apart with one other person. Both got me pretty stoned. The half seemed really efficient, but that could be a bit of liginering effects from the first round. But it says a lot because the liquid pad they give is pretty thick.... maybe I should get another one to shave down a bit... Any way I'll have to keep testing.

EDIT: And its a lot like the Plenty but a more reasonable size... Both the names makes a lot of sense when you only have the both of them.

I'm pasting this comment from the following source (http://www.vapecritic.com/vaporizers/crafty/) as I thought this aspect coming from a disabled person, in this case a blind person, was very interesting and not talked about before on this thread.

Glenn on November 15, 2014 at 8:36 am said:

I want to give my input on the Crafty from a different perspective. I am blind and absolutely love this thing. It is an outstanding example of a concept called “inclusive design”. In a nutshell, that means creating products that work with as many of the five senses as possible to create a better experience for everyone regardless of ability or disability. Storz and Bickel nailed it with this vaporizer.

The vibration feedback is fantastic and is way more than a gimmick. It can be felt as well as heard and when combined with the LED conveys status information to the user through three senses. Since vaporizers in general provide sensations of taste and smell, that means the Crafty interacts with users through all five senses. I am not aware of any other product ever that has managed to accomplish that feat. Any potential user will be able to know what is going on with the unit. That multi-sensory feedback together with the one button operation makes the Crafty friendly to just about everyone and in a wide range of use scenarios. You do not even really need a functional finger to push the button (pushing it against a knuckle, edge of a table, or even a tooth will work perfectly) so the unit could even be used by somebody with limited use of their hands. Loading and unloading are also super easy. As a blind person I can do it unassisted without any problem. There has not been a need to thoroughly clean yet but I do not anticipate too much trouble. The chamber and screens are a breeze. The cooling unit seems do-able as well but they also sell complete replacement cooling units for $19. Worst case, I could probably use one for a couple months without cleaning it at all then just replace it with a new one.

The smart phone app provides a huge advantage that you have not considered. Yes, it provides basically the same information and functionality as the display on the Mighty. But, there is one very big advantage to the app. Smart phones already have a wide range of accessibility features already built in to the OS or available through third parties. That makes the Crafty accessible to a very wide range of people with disabilities; people who have already figured out how to make a mobile device work for them in the ways that they need. I, for example, use the screen reader (Voice Over on iOS, Talkback on Android) and can access all of the information and functions that the Crafty offers. A simple display on a vaporizer cannot do that.

The Crafty is an impressive device that is also wonderfully accessible. And, that accessibility has actually made the use experience better for everyone. I really wish that many more products in the world were designed like this one. Huge kudos go to the Storz and Bickel design team. I suggest that the Crafty be your first suggestion to anybody with a disability or serious health issue.

The performance and efficiency of this thing also just blow me away. After a few days of use, I have tentatively settled on a base temperature of 190 C/374 F and a boost temperature of the maximum 210 C/410 F. I vape on the base temp until the flavor is gone then I do several more pulls at max to make sure I have wrung out all of the goodness from the material. No need for me to see the vapor that way. I am admittedly something of a lightweight, but using the Crafty this way I can get [good results] using 0.1g of material or even less. Along with all of its other benefits, this vaporizer is going to eventually pay for itself through conservation of material.

I have not found the auto-shutoff to be a problem. To prevent it from kicking in I act sort of like I am timing my draw with a stopwatch. I click the button at the start of the draw and then click it again at the end of the draw. That gives a full minute to relax in between. Works great and is easy to become automatic. This is not unlike how you recommend just squeezing the handle of the Plenty every time it is picked up.

I tried the abv from the crafty in the solo and did not really get anything to come out of it.
Also I decided to give the solo a try with non abv, I noticed that the solo vapor is indeed harsher. I think I can now start appreciating the Craftys method of extraction, almost like a subtlety of purity which translates into the actual effect.

I guess Its kind of like when I first tried vaporization, it didn't seem as strong as combustion because of the lack of extra byproducts, It did not take me long to learn to appreciate the purity. I think my transition from the solo to the crafty experience is similar but at a more subtle scale.

So my thing is.. How much does the bowl hold? And how much does the bowl hold with the liquid pad on top ? Because I'm not looking to throw .2-.3 in there every time. I like to use a smaller size.

Also has S&B ever mentioned a way for us to increase the 1 minute auto shut off? Hitting that button seems like a nuisance.

You don't have to hit the button as long as your inhale registers a temp drop and activates the heater.

I don't have much more to add. This is a fantastic vape, as everyone said. Battery life is an issue but its easy work around. I could see myself also wanting the Mighty. Even though they do the samething, it'd nice to have the Mighty for home and crafty on the go. I'm not buying one in the foreseeable fortune but maybe one day. Thats just how great they are.

Any way, if anyone tried to trim, cut or shave down the liquid pad, how'd you go about doing it?

I must hit hard because I have yet to ever have it auto shut off on me. And I can't seem to hit it soft enough to not make the heater go down?

Same here, except if I pull really slow it doesn't go down much. This is at room temperature. Outside it might be different.
Even of it goes down a bit it heats up to the set temp during my draw so it's not an issue at all for me.

Has anyone tried to vape solid/pressed concentrates with the Crafty?
I have access to some currently.
