Vapman

In summary, comparing Vapman to Persei/Herc:

Taste - slight edge to Vapman
Stealth - huge edge to Herc
Odor - tie
Cost - Vapman
Ease of use/maintenance - Vapman
Flexibility - Vapman (herb and wax without needing extra attachments)

Thanks for an excellent (and obviously well thought through) review. Seems to me that if you remove stealth as a consideration the choice becomes very clear.......

FWIW I think we're truly blessed with excellent choices and useful, objective guidance from our fellows. Is this a great Forum or what?

Thanks again. Keep up the good work. Now trot out and round up some better concentrate to test for us......

Thanks to all for the kind comments.

@OF, from your mouth to God's ear... My "guy" tells me that higher quality concentrates may become available by December. It's a newfangled thing for him.

Thinking a MFLB water whip is best for vapman after trying stock vapman stuck in 14mm joint.

The vapman works great alone just stuck in the joint, but I spilled two loads having it come apart at the middle section/base.
@Ed's TnT that might be some valuable info for that Wong..

Anyone else have input on water usage with the vapman?

My sessions are longer when pairing with water, which is opposite of every other vaporizer I've used. Taste is still great too.

But who spells vapour correctly? :)

Off hand, whoever uses the least letters. The leftovers can always be used later......

Didja know at Cambridge there's an actual committee that decides this stuff? They're the guys that finally decided a comma is required before the 'and' in "Dick, Jane, and Sally"? How'd ya like that job? I once worked for a guy who got his PhD there, a bit of a stickler as they say........

Do they decide which gray or grey to use in which situation also?

Just made some homemade screens for some shatter, but I'll wait until this afternoon to give them a go. It doesn't end up messy I hope?

That comma is known as the Oxford comma. I attend seminars about these things.

Makes perfect sense to me. Kind of a 'Russia had it first' thing? You know what they say, 'the conflicts in academia are so vicious precisely because the prize is so small'.........

Or maybe everyone has a similar (or conflicting) rule and never bothered to tell me? Logically they'd like their name attached (if only to back up that hefty tuition).

Awkward languge we pinched, could have been German easily. But then nobody would be able to spell street names.......

Fun conjecture, but as long as they guy signing time cards says it's Cambridge, Cambridge it is. From here, anyway.

I've been having a test run with the screens and some QWISO it's going very well.

Good control of temps. Good taste. Big hits easily available. You can fit enough on the screen easily, haven't had any spills yet (touch wood).

I agree that the MFLB water whip currently is the best solution. I have an 18mm with a tube attachment set-up like the MFLB. I just really dislike the tubing.

If you dislike the MFLB whip tubing, you could always go all glass and pick up a volcano easy valve gong adapter (I got mine from PV), I intended to use it with my volcano, but its really usefull for making a gong adapter for any vape that connects to MFLB stems (Ive used it for vapman, vaponic, Firewood, wispr, now crafty). Slips snugly over the stem.

Vapman is like Daisy's little brother, and MFLB's flame twin...I could live with these two alone, but VAS won't let me:cry:

So, if you're on a budget, want to dabble in wax while still having the option for herb, and don't need heavy stealth, Vapman is absolutely the way to go. If you're not on a budget, WTF are you waiting for??? You cannot do wrong by getting yourself a Vapman (I'm sold on the mica/exotic wood but might consider a middle product that puts an interesting char on the Basic -- @vapman, what about it?) I see three price points:

Vapman Raw - for budget users and those who want to DIY a char
Vapman Char - for budget users who want cool looks without the exotic expense
Vapman Mica/Exotic - for those not on a budget

Of course, it's not my product and it's none of my business...just spitballing...

Enjoy, all.

ETA:
Two other things:
1. With the Herc, it's difficult to tell how much load you have. Take off the mouthpiece and you're looking down a dark barrel into sludge. With Vapman, pull the top and you know instantly. Advantages: Vapman
2. For me, I can't avoid coughing with the Herc. Just as it seems to be with herb, Vapman vapor is more tolerable/forgiving to my throat. Advantages: Vapman

I'm a little surprised at how this turned out because I do love my Herc.

Great review Mr. Melish!
Regarding your question about making a charred version: why not? We seriously consider this as realistic and feasible. @Mojo: thanks for the idea!

Let me make a small comment about using vapman in general: I could read in some places about heating the air nozzles and alu clamps in order to enhance convection on vapman. This is NOT a good idea at all! Never ever direct the jet-flame towards the mica heat shield, mica is heat proof but not torch flame proof. Besides this, it would singe the wood underneath very badly to the extent of destabilizing the screws holding the heating chamber. Vapman should be heated up exclusively by directing the jet-flame to the apex of the copper bowl. Heating with the jet-flame is most efficient when the visible light blue point of the flame touches the apex of the heating chamber.

BTW, I have not forgotten about the video of the pocket vaporizer, we wanted to do it last week but time flies when you`re having fun (or a lot of work) and it is scheduled for this week.

Thank you.

@vapman I've looked a ton online for a cleaning solution for the middle piece(The one connecting the bowl and mouthpiece with the air vents, sorry not sure if there is a formal name). I saw one tutorial claiming you can out that wooden piece in acetone? Wouldn't that compromise the integrity of the wood as well as give it a wicked smell? Is there a tried and true method, for those of us unfortunate enough to accidentally combust during usage?

I submerged the middle section several times in acetone, it works fine and leaves nothing behind as acetone evaporates completely. Steama wrote about this in some previous posts. It can also be cleaned by scraping of the residues with a small knife or similar tool and finished off with a cotton swab soaked in some cleaning solvent like acetone or alcohol. The charred wood on the bottom of the middle section should not be touched or scraped off with a sharp tool, it would lead to the lowering of the two steel pins and resulting in the failure of the locking system. In case you combusted real bad and the middle section got a real burnt taste, for this I have no solution to offer except replacing the whole part or ignoring the burnt smell until the taste of the residues take hopefully over again. I hope I could help you.

Storage I find it almost impossible to combust in my vapman
I have held the flame on for over 15s and get the most vaped bud I can get from any vape
But no combustion

If there is combustion you will know it because when it happens there is no doubt. When burning and smoke starts you have combustion. The taste is burnt and not similar to vapor.
also in my opinion... but i have also heard people saying it combustion if you have ash in you abv... and also "white ash parts"...

It is really quite easy to experience combustion with the Vapman. All you need to happen is forget where you are in your session and accidentally apply the heat too soon or just dozing while using a torch — all it takes is a couple seconds too long to cause burning.

Hey! Maybe you can make us a video demonstrating those techniques???? JK of course, most of us don't really need help screwing up, but I couldn't pass up my chance to suggest someone go out of their way to make and post a video for my amusement....... Please don't do it.

I think how far you push the herb also has something to do with the rate. If you sip at a load as opposed to 'slamming it down' I think you can drain the good stuff out with lighter ABV under the right conditions.

I did a series of tests on this with Solo. I'd collect ABV under similar temperature and time conditions then put it into my HA and roast it good. A subjective test for sure, but the best I had......and one I tend to take stock in. While in general darker ABV had less to offer, some of the dark stuff beat the lighter versions. All from the same ounce of course. At the time I convinced myself longer times at slightly lower temperatures could strip the THC and remain lighter.

Push it toward miniature charcoal briquettes, and heat it enough and you'll get a little BBQ all your own going for sure.

When I use Vapman I go until I start tasting a prevalent toasty taste. I open her up and check the herb. Then I usually just hit at it till it comes close to going over the edge.

I have thought that the goodness from the herbs may be gone sooner (like a medium brown) but as long as I still enjoy the taste, I'm puffing. My ABV gets dark like coffee grounds. When you get to this point it doesn't take much more to burn. Of course, the goal is to never burn at all but when you push it the herb can smoke on occasion.
Sorry for not being able to single out the part of the post I wanted to quote, couldn't figure it out on my iPhone. This is essentially the same method I use and will say that the Vapman gets my abv way darker than normal as well, but it's not a bad thing to me. I think that part of its efficency, and why some claim to get more "stoned" with the Vapman you get all the other actives in the herb so that couch lock can set in a little more aggressively. I find this extra dark abv kind of trademark for the Vapman even if I do tease vapor out, golden brown in the Vapman just seems like you're not getting full potential to me. The Vapman has in essence replaced the joint for me.
