After using my new Crafty last night I have to say I'm nothing short of impressed on how they could pack such great heating into such a small package. I'm loving this thing! Amazing flavor, easy to use, portable and efficient! It's definitely a high end vape made for vape ballers.

I must have been hitting it hard because after two sessions I was down to half battery. The only improvement they could have made was allow for on the fly battery replacement and that would allow us to buy some 3400 mah batteries like this
http://www.batteryjunction.com/nitecore-nl189.html

Carrying a torx screwdriver and some spare batteries is always an option :-)

Has anyone purchased one of the pelican cases below for their crafty yet? I'm thinking about getting the 1010, my only concern is no padding to prevent the crafty from shifting around and getting scratched during transport.

Fyi: I solved the issue of the serial number getting rubbed out by placing a small piece of scotch tape over it.

Oh and unlike pretty much EVERY battery operated portable I've used from pax to firefly and everything in between...I left this in a cold car during a movie late last night. When I got back it was 4c according to the app, and the vape had no problem firing up and going to town.

If my firefly or pax got cold like that I'd have it acting like the battery was dead even if it was fully charged. So that will be nice during the winter.
Aw come on. You can't eliminate ALL the potential objections I would have...

I will be interested to hear how it does after being REALLY cold. There will be many places I CAN'T take it so it would have to remain in the car, and it gets well below freezing here in winter. If you can't pull the batteries out and warm them with your body (or take them with you), the device will likely be unusable, at least for some significant period. That is just the fate of (non lead acid) battery powered devices in this part of the world.

Batteries (in or out of a device) lose their charge slower in cold temps. Put charged bats in the fridge and they may stay charged as much as twice as long as with room temp storage. OTOH chemical reactions proceed more slowly in the cold, so operating a portable vape in the cold means less current is transferred, and the bats will get used up more quickly. If your other portables get their bats drained in the cold, while idle, then they're defying the laws of chemistry.

Until someone actually uses that Torx and finds out whats inside we don't know that. Its possible that the battery may be soldered or connected differently.

Not gonna do it. But battery is likely soldered for max transfer. I'll bet S&B can do a door to door turnaround in less than a week. Wouldn't worry about it..

Open case, 3 yr warranty is cacked. The heater or the board could cack and your fucked.

I can't argue the chemistry but from my own personal (anecdotal) experience that hasn't always happened with the various music players and computers I have used. There may be a difference regarding which battery tech (NICAD, NMH or Lithium) one is using but my devices often lasted a shorter time after going through big temperature swings. YMMV, of course, and there may be other factors contributing to this, but that is MY experience.
Important to add that one needs to watch for condensation with electronics and that is ANOTHER reason to let your devices come to room temps before using them...

I know that lead acid batteries will last much longer if they're frozen with a full charge on them, but this can also make them harder to re-charge without bringing them up to temperature first.

I found this article informative regarding affect of temperature on batteries.
I thinking replacing the torx screws with these magnets and installing battery tabs would be a great way to swap batts eliminating the hour wait for a complete recharge.
Youtube has videos providing handy tips on how to remove warranty voiding stickers without damaging them, not that you should do that.
I think the iOS app has the warning messages mixed up, because after 5 consecutive bowls I got this message
AjNwNAi.png

so good to know there is temperature protection but the I think the messages are reversed.

The Crafty extracts anything you through at it so effortlessly… :o Either it's a coarse grind or fine one or just a nug, it bakes it so evenly that is mind boggling, at least from my experience with past vapes! It gets better every day and now I have some nice organic outdoor herbs to compliment it! :brow: So much fun!!!

:smug: Crafty is a best buy for sure! I currently use it at 180C with 30C boost to finish the load...

Crikey farmer, 30C boost would blow the shit right out of me. I had to turn my booster temp down a few degrees today, woah! Gotta love that starting temp of 180C though, that does me for draw after draw :)

Can you explain how and when the boost temp works? Of im at 400 f w 10 degrees booster does that just mean I'm vaping at 410f? Or am I missing something?

I've been around this forum for a while now, witnessing the arrival of some exciting new vapes: the Solo, the Pax, the Cloud, the Firefly, the Minivap, etc. And I've got to say that I've never seen such a promising launch as the Crafty and Mighty. It's been a month now and we've seen no major problems, design flaws, parts breaking, and so on. Obviously no vape is perfect, and only time will tell. But, one month in, these two units look fantastic (and, for that reason, they also look a bargain!). As a proud Volcano owner, I'm extra excited.

For me, it's when, not if; and sooner, not later.

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too
Here is some info I have received from s&b regarding the battery, just thought I'd share it with you guys.

'According to our experiences, a fully charged Crafty allows the vaporization of approx. 3 -5 filling chamber loads, depending on ambient conditions and user habits. You must bear in mind, that, to heat dozens of liters (or gallons) of air from e.g. 20°C (68°F) to 200°C (392°F), comparatively lots of energy is required. Please be aware, Crafty is a full hot air convection vaporizers with additional conduction heating of the filling chamber. This is the reason why they work as well as formerly only known from mains operated vaporizers, giving you excellent clouds of vapor.

Of course we only use the best cells available on the market and most of the devices’ processing power is used only for battery management, however, we cannot go beyond physical limits.

I hope to have answered your questions with this information. If there are any other questions, I would be glad to help.'

Guess this is why turning down the led and turning off the vibrate function makes no difference to battery life for me.

It works at the dialed in temperature, then when you press the crafty power button twice, quickly, it activates the booster temperature. It will begin flashing red (booster temp heating up) and then flashing green (booster temp reached).
It will then be operating at the booster temp.

I use this when the clouds start dying down at 180, I then boost it (25-30c more) and then it starts producing clouds again, in volume, and then when it stops producing clouds it will be done (but this point it's a nice even brown).

Talk about stealth... :D

ivSaO9lG8kAfE.JPG

Great job! After using my solo stealth adapter it's good to know the crafty has an option too. (Although I think it's pretty stealthy even as is).

Just be careful not to restrict the air intake too much. I feel the air intake at the bottom of the heating tube. Try and maximise air flow to that area.
Maybe get a pin and put in a bunch of tiny holes in the juice box, that will allow air flow.
Although with the heatsink fan design I think it might still be able to get some air.

They don't ACTUALLY drain, they just act as though they are empty. My firefly when left in my car in the cold will have a fully charged battery, get cold, turn it on and have red light flashing saying its dead and difficulty heating. If I warm it up in my hands for a minute or 2, no more problem. I know it didn't just magically charge itself, but others have so far had difficulty in cold until warmed up with me. This one hasn't been a problem yet, though I think it takes longer to heat up when its colder, but no other temp caused issues.

So what's the code for the diagnostics screen?
I don't know what the password is, it's stored with irreversible encryption so brute force would be the only way to break it ... instead I took the approach of modifying the APK itself to bypass the password check (it always evaluates to true).

I'm sorry but you have me at a loss as to what you are referring to. If its the above pic I believe it belongs to @darkrom and it shows a lot of material up there which makes me think his grind is too fine. I use the stock, coarse, screen and my SCS and I don't get anything like that up there at all. Just a tiny amount of light brown dust in the intake section.
Sorry t-dub! My mistake ... thought you posted that one but it was indeed @darkrom

That is very nice camo, but I suspect you may need a hole somewhere near the air intake...

Would you say you don't need to grind?

No need for a hole so far as I left some gaps around the mouthpiece and the draw is great!

No need for grind either if you wish, or just a pinch of herbs (around .05g, barely covering the screen) in the bowl and it bakes everything evenly. No effort from my part! :)

Just be careful not to restrict the air intake too much. I feel the air intake at the bottom of the heating tube. Try and maximise air flow to that area.

The gaps around the mouthpiece draw enough air as far as I can tell! :)

Another thing that juice box might be useful for is vaping in cold temps. Not doubt the unit will be a little warmer in that box. Giggity.

It gets a tad warmer while cooling down after a session and it gets your hands really toasty, yes! :D

Super blitzed right now! :ko: And I have to wake up and pick some olives right now! Damn, I have to easier on the Crafty! :p

A month ago I knew not of Crafty, Today I know not how I Vaped without Crafty.

After three Days with Crafty, I have to say they've got some geniuses over in Germany at S&B. Everything about it seems so thoroughly thought out.
LOVE the entire design, one-way twist off cooling lid, 360 diagonal swivel mouthpiece.
LOVE the filling tool, works perfectly and can fit a good amount.
LOVE the app, yes one more settable temp would be nice, as well as a turn on button, especially as Craftys bluetooth is always on while charging.
LOVVVE the performance! huge vapor output, with flavour only a tad shy of the Firefly. I do experience the surprisingly quick extraction, 3-4 Good rips, then vapor trails off, I also get much lighter Abv than I'm used to, similar to my volcano.
Not having a problem with the shut-off, my "applications" seems to be adequate to reset it, and the vibration and easy turn on make the times it does shut down mid session a non-issue.
Maintenance is a joke compared to my Pax, the cooling units are just genius, easier to reclaim dry than my stock solo stems, got a nice blob earlier.
I initially had the impression Crafty had 50/50 conduction/convection, but @natural farmer's post about full buds prompted me to give it a go, and the perfectly vaped golden-brown bud has me convinced of Craftys convectionality.
My only grip as of now is the battery life and charge time. I dream of Crafty having a baby with Firefly.
A Crafty with swappable batteries and instant heat up would be undisputed King.
All in All this is definitely the best battery powered Vape to join my arsenal.
my Vas for pocket vapes has been quenched, for now.....

Does anyone have any ideas on how to harvest the reclaim in the cooling unit?

For my solo I just use milk and cook the stem. I don't feel so confident about doing that with a plastic cooling unit.

Also ISO reclaim is not possible as 100% medical grade ISO is not available in Australia. The most we can get is 70% in swab form only.

I remember reading on FC that it might be possible with a strong alcohol?

Or I could scrape it off, but does anyone have any link or guides on how to best do it... Because if you scrape it... Won't I just get stuck to the utensil?

My personal experience was exactly the same even though my material is super dry. Though my only comparison is a MFLB. I was explaining to my wife that once I popped the top it looked like a fresh baked pie in there!

Talk to her in terms she can understand? How about a little vacuum cleaner analogy? Not that mine is like that, but where we live, upon hearing that, the Dungaree FemLib contingent would have you hangin' by yer cojones from the nearest (organic) tree ;-)

There's 96% ethanol (i.e. alcohol) in liter or 750 ml bottles from Poland under the name "Spirytus". Realistically that's as close to 100% ethanol as you'll find outside a lab. It's a staple in Polish kitchens for all sorts of applications. Look for a Polish Deli and ask the staff discreetly for "Spee-'rhee-toos". It lives under the counter in puritanical jurisdictions. It dissolves reclaim nicely, as well as brain cells and other junk. Perfectly medical grade. A friend drank our 24 track's head & puck cleaner before a session one time and we had to scramble to find a replacement ;-)

Boy, you guys are merciless. Even at the indecent $400 price, upon seeing that juice carton I feel VAS tuggin' at my heartstrings. I can even see explaining that my fruit juice "smokes" like that whenever it's fresh out of the freezer, LOL. It's just that considering $399 buys a beautiful Korean hand-made instrument like this, it just seems disproportionate. Know what I'm sayin? Does anyone know, are those plastic vaporizers actually made in Germany by Union workers?
