I might get one anyway!
Effect is important as well!

While it's a good idea to explore such things, I think this might not be ideal for you since I 'sense' heavier than normal (volume wise) usage on your part.

DV is a fun and effective unit, IMO. It's load size is, however, pretty small. And with extended (or even normal) use it can get mighty hot. To the point that I have to be careful how I hold it. The whole thing gets hot and I find myself shifting my grip to find the coolest spot to hang onto.

Not very good for heavy, prolonged use I think. While I still like it, and drag it our for a spin now and then, Solo sure cured my tendency to reach for the DV. I'm thinking you'd end up the same?

Your call, of course.

Best wishes.

ACCENT is not the same?
It's Ascent.

Do I buy a $15 car charger or another portable vaporizer?
The DV is a pocket vape, so it beats the Solo for ease of use as a walk around vape. Otherwise, I don't see any functional advantage. DV suits me fine for portable use, and if you're willing to maybe forego warranty coverage, it's hard to beat at barely over $100 on eBay or at Vaporseller.com. So far I have zero interest in more expensive pocket portables.

My DV stopped charging. :( I know it's something with the unit, because I tried it with a proven DV charger cord and my Ascent cord as well and it won't even turn on when plugged in. It was my go to for travel until September and I used it about every other week thereafter (splitting the duty between it and my Ascent). The last time I went to use it is was about half battery when I turned it on, but it only lasted eight of the ten minutes expected before it flashed and plunked off. It hasn't worked since.

At least you have the Ascent.

I would contact customer service at the same email address. I don't believe we have any spare seals but its always worth asking. They may be able to do something for you. customerservice@davincivaporizer.com

My friend who bought the DV for me seems to have gotten mine from an unauthorized retailer (on r*kuten), so I guess I am out of warranty. I will clean it and set it safely aside in hopes that there may be a repair service customers could buy in the future. Customer service was very polite.

I love the Ascent for taste, near instant heating and relative ease of emptying, but prefer the original for frugality, stealth, and security (the original has a little spot for attaching wrist strap to prevent accidental drops which as a person who sometimes has unpredictable muscle twitches I really wish the Ascent had). I do find I have to clean the inner glass of the Ascent more often than I had to clean the screens of my DaVinci, and I had to rig a secondary screen in order to get the hang of the Ascent, but it's alright. If I had better time management skills, I'd probably like the Ascent even better, but as it is I find I vape on the Ascent a bit longer than I would for a session on the original DV and I find that I get a bit nicer on a session of the Ascent than I would on the DV, but then I only get a couple two or three sessions rather than the four or so I would on DV. Both are quite effective and enjoyable.

You can add a strap to the grill along the bottom of the Ascent.

Hey all. Does anyone know if the snorkel now has the rubber covering like the short flexi-straw if you buy direct from the DV website or is it still the stiff braided covering ?

Thanx in advance and Happy Vaping y'all.

I believe it is still the old school flexi straw material.

I have a question about this unit...how does it perform as apposed to the ascent. And taste wise, how is it? Looks like the chamber is in a better place...?

This unit has a shorter battery life and only gets to 405F whereas the Ascent can hit 430F. We did make improvements to the DaVinci latch that covers the bowl to make it easier to load. It opens wider than the original one and the original one also had a button whereas the 2.0 uses a magnetic latch. As far as the taste goes, it has a stainless steel bowl, a stainless steel screen section we call the "upper chamber" with a cap that removes for cleaning. The mouth piece is also silicone. The Ascent has an all glass/ceramic vapor path so the taste is more pure but some people swear by the DaVinci's function.

Hi Guys. I turned on a Da Vinci (not ascent) vaporizer after fully charging it, and I noticed some mystery vapor coming from the top without the mouthpeice on. The person at the shop I bought it from said to run it on the highest temperature "for a minute", and Da Vinci themselves said to just keep doing "burn cycles" for 10 minutes at a time for 3 to 5 times until it goes away.... So far I've done two burn cycles, and though the offgassing/outgassing or whatever from the empty bowl (never packed) is becoming less, it is still there.

How do I remedy this situation? I hope I can just burn whatever is on there off and not have to take it back... once it cools down again I'll do another burn cycle...

I might have accidently inhaled a bit of the "mystery vapor" as I will call it... will that harm me? I was in an open space and it was just some vapor of some sort coming off of the vaporizor...

Thanks guys.

Da Vinci's FAQ didn't touch on any issues like that.. maybe try the official Da Vinci thread?

I did... and I'm seeing stuff about gassing all over the place... I know it's not Da Vinci's fault.... this is widely known as a product of superb excellence. That's why I contacted them and they said to do 10 minute "Burn Cycles" on the max temperature, 3 to 5 of them... or until I stop seeing the smoke. I hope the smoke stops coming out soon, or the mystery vapour... I'm starting to get dizzy lol. And it's making my whole pad smell like burning plastic with the burn cycles. :(

Edit: Update guys! I did 5, 10 minute "burning cycles" and there was still that mystery vapor there. It looks like I'll be doing burning cycles all night long! Eventually I'll end up giving up and taking it back to the headshop I got it from... if they're gracious enough to do an exchange. I can only see the mystery vapor when I point a flashlight at the mouth hole and hold it against a dark surface... The mystery vapor isn't there when I only heat it to 375 though... but I don't want to chance inhaling god knows what. I'm going to keep going until all that weird smoke is gone. Keep in mind, I've never even packed the bowl and this is happening.

that definitely sounds like a defective unit.. Only time I ever had mystery vapors were after the hint was used, and I know that it was just resins from my flowers. Return for a new one?

I'm going to try if the mystery vapor doesn't go away and the headshop guy is willing to look with a flashlight to see the vapor.... in the mean time I'm going to keep trying to burn whatever is on there off.

There are two schools of thought about the 'mystery vapor'. One is catalyst from the rubber parts, the other 'contamination' in the mica insulation. We're told the silicone is food grade (which really applies more to the catalyst as I understand it) so the first case represents no significant health risks. In the second case, while mica is made of layers of silica (same basic stuff as sand only formed in layers rather than 3 dimensional crystals) which can contain voids of other stuff (usually water, probably pretty stale by now), again not generally held to be a toxic issue as vapor. Other appliances use way more of this, like toasters and hair dryers FWIW.

As to when it goes away, it's a diminishing returns thing. In both cases stuff has to migrate to the surface and leave (or you'd never know......). Like drying oil paint, in a way. The very fact you see it leave means it's no longer there. When more has left, more will have left. No more is being created or added. Most guys seem to deem them 'gone' in 10 or 12 runs at most?

I hope it gets to that level for your quickly, IMO it's a subjective point, and you can get to enjoying it....I think it's a cool little unit. Well, actually it gets pretty hot making you happy. But it does get you happy, or at least I hope it does eventually in your case.

FWIW, here's what the maker had to say on the mica issue a while back:

While you might not have had a 'mystery vapor' issue, many have been down this path. The very term "mystery vapor" returns a lot of messages over a long time. IMO this does not point to a defective unit that needs to immediately be returned.

Regards to all.
