Discontinued The Sublimator

Whew-just finished reading the entire thread. The urge to try a sub is strong I tell ya.

Does anyone happen to have any experience with the UFO/sputnik kit in an actual campfire? I have my lotus and other analog vapes for home use but have been eyeing the UFO hard for a camping trip I'm going on in a month. Plus, everyone needs that apocalypse vape amirite?

Anyone know how consistent and easy the UFO is to use with a small campfire? I could throw a grill & skillet over the fire if that's easier but I'm really drawn to the idea of tossing the UFO into the fire for a couple min then getting a couple full hits out of it with my buddies. (Someone mentioned they get 4 bowls out of the UFO after heating it up??) Anyone know if i'd be able to retain the heat levels after letting it sit in the campfire by hitting it with a normal butane torch? Just looking for the simplest and most user friendly way to use this thing with 2-3 other people while actually camping.

Any info/techniques would be appreciated! :peace:

Oh my fucking god. This thing absolutely RIPS! I have only used it for flowers yet and once you get that thermal equilibrium, you can do some epic hits! I just did a hit that knocked me so hard and felt so tough on the throat that I swore I had combusted the bejeezus out of it, look at the buds, they are like yellow-brown. Still plenty left in them.

The Sub is an industrial beast, but it really is a beast!

I'm jelly, goddammit. :D

I'd probably have to wear work gloves, a welding mask and a helmet just to protect myself while using it but damn if it still doesn't tweak my interest... especially now with your early report.

haha bro it is actually perfectly safe save for the sharp edges on my handle and tool (I have never heard other complaints of this so maybe mine just wasn't finished properly?).

I keep checking the bowl to see if I'm combusting - barely even yellowish light brown! It just pours everlasting milk into my Luke Wilson rig!

It definitely needs it's own space and should not be passed about. I would not wanna risk my piece or the floors of my house from a sub drop lol.

By the way, the draw resistance is insane! Just free thick lung busting clouds coming through loaded with more cannabinoids than any reasonable person should know what to do with!

Just my exclamation count alone here should be something to go by!!!! I would say with the utmost confidence that I don't know of anything that could hit harder than a sub. All marketing bullshit aside, this is the big hitter I wanted all along.

:leaf:

Edit: Jacked the temp up to 10 and did a dab of some THC bomb shatter off a boro dabber. Delicious! I've got a chunk of smokey quartz that I might dab with later :D

@hassan Yessir, it was for the whole set as presented at the expo. I stopped by their stand every day for the three days it lasted and everyone I was with at the moment really liked it. Dense smoke and FULL of flavor. I never really wanted a vapo but after trying this piece I'm seriously attracted. Now I seriously need to get a work.

yeah, those sharp edges sound like a mistake, I'd hate to think they are selling them like that on purpose. I'd contact the people you purchased yours through and start a convo about what your options are. You should not be getting cut up by any of your sub parts.

I agree, I am sure this is a one off thing with the sharpness!

I just did a bowl with some g13 haze for wake and bake. 5.5 on the dial, dry through my LW piece.

Smacked me upside the head with a thick heady high, now I'm gonna do a double decker with g13 haze shatter and g13 haze flowers at 8.5 :D

I have actually not combusted since I have had the sub, I think this is my combustion beater once I get this timer out of the way! ;)

I too have a friend who wants me to put together a rig for him.

I'm torn because I don't think Enrico and the Sublimator are actually deserving of anyone helping them make more money after the way they treat their loyal customers, but at the same time, I do want to see continued innovation.

(Although I don't think they are even trying to innovate any more).

Frederick, I am hitting my solo AVB (setting 7 in PA mode) in the sub and getting bigger clouds than my solo was capable of producing with perfect ground cured nugs at 7.

The sub is amazing with producing great flavour and vapor from the buds. I am loving double deckers of my THC bomb LWET bubble hash extracted absolute shatter with northern lights f before bed!

By the way guys, I get that Enrico hasn't been around these parts lately and is probably more interested in doing a dab from the slab (@MGG). I also get that the sub 1.0 users are pretty frustrated at the eventual wattage drop issue. Remember though guys, the chunk of SS/ti that you have is what sets the sub apart from other vapes. The electronics have been done in a simple, if crude way, but there are swathes of people out there qualified to make great electronics to use ourselves!

People like myself and 4tokin are people with the knowledge to fix the 20th century controller and power adapter ;) We had a long vaked conversation about various ways of changing this thing so that the controller reflects the quality of the metal pieces. I really think that it is gonna be worthwhile to produce a new custom psu/controller for enthusiasts that makes this beast much easier to use and is of the same super high durability/quality as the metal parts are.

I am not recommending that sublimator people do this, I am suggesting that perhaps the likes of @4tokin and myself could come up with a design that makes the sub easier to use, fixes gripes like the timer and only requires users to purchase the heater from sublimator and we can take care of the rest. ;)

I will be getting in touch with Enrico as well though about the sharp pieces of metal.

There is no doubt in my mind that for cloud chasers, the sub is hands down the best vape. I have never, ever seen such clouds produced from so little material without combusting in any other unit. This absolutely leaves my e-nano for dead.

So is this wattage drop issue a problem on all subs or just the old ones?

@herbivore21, any idea if your potential psu/controller will affect the warranty on it at all?

I've decided if vapexhale can't ship the evo within a week or 2 I'm canceling a netting a sub.

I have only heard of wattage drop issue happening on the 1.0

I have scoured both this thread and the xlr 2.0 thread for any reports of people having this issue with 2.0 but none so far.

The custom psu/controller should not effect warranty. They would still provide the same 36v 1-2a (depending on the heat setting) of power that the heater needs to function normally - just in a better looking/feeling and easier to use package. The metal parts have a separate and longer warranty (10 years) to the electronics anyway.

Sounds dope then
Just had a closer look at some of the pics - didn't realize the electronics could be completely disconnected from the main unit...

Just sent vapexhale an email - if they can't ship my evo by next Friday, I'm canceling and getting a sub...

(And if they can ship it by Friday, I guess I'm selling off some glass and getting a sub  - I need me a sub in my life - got to be subbinin :D)

Is ozbongs the best place to get an Aussie version?
(planetvape are usually pretty good too - but I'm thinking with the exchange rate how it is ATM it might work out more expensive from them)

Pretty sure I'll grab the Ti Dabmaster kit (that's what you got yeah?)
$700 is way more than my brain is telling me I should spend on a vape, but if I get my $500 USD evo refund it should convert back to like $570 AUD or so, so it's only an extra $130...
(I'm wondering if I shoud just go with the apollo version? I don't plan to be doing any dabs from the slab, and the apollo version seems fine for small to moderate dabs? Then again, the dabmaster is only $30-40 more...)

So I'm assuming the Ti provides better taste?
Or heat retention?
It's only an extra $60, and I prefer the idea of it being Ti vs SS anyway, but I'm curious as to the actual advantage...

Any idea how long it might take you to create the custom psu/controller?
Just looking on planet vape, I could grab the
Atomizer - $125
Ti Dabmaster Heater - $265
Stand - $30
Separately for $420 (:brow:), then I'd just have to add whatever the cost for your controller (I'm assuming less than $280 )

I am in the same boat.
OB has very little stock left.
After checking out herbies unit I think it may be possible to buy selected pieces from PV and out source the power supply and still come out in front.

TBH, I'm not in any rush to pick it up (I've been waiting ~18 months for the evo, and I'm still perfectly happy using my LSV), so having to wait for ozbongs to get more stock doesn't really phase me...

The prospect of grabbing the pieces separately from PV for a decent chunk of change cheaper is more appealing to me, but of course I'd have to wait for the outsourced PSU/controller to be worked out...

Thought I would chime in with the recent renewed interest in the Sub.

Purchased my V1 Adapt-a-Sub from PV in Oct 2013. Used daily between 31 and 41 watts - 3-12 hours per day. Sent back in Sept 2014 to PV for warranty replacement due to dropped max wattage (~40) and failing heater (usable setting for flowers varied between 34-40 watts at the end). Currently a happy camper again but for how long.......

All the positives you read about the sub are for real; one hit extraction, flower and concentrate, sublimate, 2x deckers - but nothings perfect. The sub can be dangerous to newbs, pets and guests, requires a "station" for safe usage, a VERY stable glass piece, a dropdown/claim catcher is required, 15-20 min to full heat up, and very expensive.

When I received my new replacement from PV (thanks PV!!!!) I contemplated selling/switching to an EVO or other plug-in due to long term reliability concerns regarding the psu/heater of the sub but held off for a variety of reasons.

When I drop $600 on a Vape my expectations are for a long-term solution so I am still concerned. If a qualified user can come up with an aftermarket solution to the PSU and heater issues allowing for out of warranty rebuilds the Sub should last forever.

The sub 1.0 and XLR 2.0 are completely different electronically speaking. The shape of the metal atomizer/metal covering the heating element are the same, but even the heater would be different, running on 36v DC instead of 120v AC. The electronics are necessarily different for the sub 1.0 and the XLR 2.0.

The after market psu/controller we are talking about will be designed for the XLR 2.0 first, as this is the current model and the one with the ubiquitous timers which need a workaround. Because it is 36v, the components required in the new psu/controller must deliver appropriate power and would not work with the sub 1.0.

Every person who has had this issue that I have read in this thread (pretty comprehensively) is referring to the sub 1.0. We all know that first versions of vapes can have crippling issues. Anyone who has been over the the evo thread has also seen a deluge of posts about issues with the evo - not to mention those like Frederick who ordered the 220v version and paid for it in full fucking FOREVER ago and still have not got one. Even high end vapes unfortunately can disappoint.

As such, I buy vapes which use simple electronics for easy replacement, and durable parts for the non-electronics so that they aren't gonna break. Electronics in vapes are crude as fuck for the most part, I am confident in repairing 99% of vape issues myself unless it requires wood turning or machining of metal which to be fair, I am not so great with.

The sub 1.0 is known to have an eventual wattage drop for large numbers of users. Once that happens, you either send to PV or replace the dimmer (which is almost certainly the source of the wattage drop issue btw, being a cheap electrical component taking 120v AC non stop for those of you without timers). The reality is that replacing a dimmer is something that anyone can do (using a dimmer that plugs in at the outlet), and many members in this thread have. You should seriously contemplate this if the wattage drop issue happens again :)

What is so appealing about the XLR 2.0 is that it delivers unparalleled clouds, great taste and is eminently customizable and user-repairable. It is much like the E-Nano I have (which is too broken to user-repair due to a serious drop onto some tiles) in this respect, a zippo lighter style vape which users can fix without much effort.

I will agree that pets should NOT be allowed into a room where the sub is running, unless you have a sub station set up on a high table with all wires in places impossible for said pet to get to. By the same token, the sub should be nowhere near children.

This all being said, I have never burned myself on the sub. I have cut myself on the poorly finished handle/moon tool though (only when I first got the unit!)

Also, I do not use a dropdown. I use an empty carbon filter to protect the joint in my Luke Wilson rig from getting damaged by expanding metal/teflon rings. Said piece is so stable I leave my sub on top all the time, has been 4 days now without falling and has never even nearly fell! It is rock solid.

I advise all sub users to use a piece with a big can, and a big base. The big can is required because the sub will generate as much milk from a small load as you can handle, and it is easier to draw through a big can so that if you just fall short in terms of lung capacity, the rest of the vapor is waiting for you in the piece. The firm, preferably broad base will help keep the piece balanced. That being said, the XLR 2.0 at least balances very well on most pieces, so long as they are not tiny oil rigs which cannot be balanced.

The new atomizer will fit any piece, even used it in stable way on a cheap mini oil rig yesterday (using only a f-f adapter for the 18mm male joint to connect)!

hey I've experienced the wattage drop with my 1.0. was maxing out at 33 watts. Sorry if this is stupid cause I'm not particularly electrically inclined.. But Has anyone else with wattage drop opened the dimmer? and noticed its just a little piece of plastic that stops it spinning past a certain point? If you encourage it just a bit it will keep spinning a good bit further. getting 45 watts with the added spin. Thoughts?

@hassan, @grokit, and others who are OG sub supporters, I've read about 155 total pages of the thread, and haven't found the reason for the bad taste people have about @Enrico now. Could someone point me in the right direction to find out? Not looking for anyone to start attacking Enrico on this thread, if anyone wants to personally share their grief with Enrico with me, send me a pm please. I'm really looking for pg numbers specifically though.

There may have been a few posts , that were removed/deleted .
Due to conflict with forum rules . But trust me , there were
more than a few disgruntled members . In fact , we lost some
really good contributing members to this forum over this debacle .

Having said that ,
On all 4 occasions , that I've had the pleasure of testing out the Sub .
I was knocked on my ass all 4 times . I cannot explain the science/tech
behind this vape . I just know it WORKS .

I always prefer V2 of any new vaporizers , so they can work
out the early teething problems of V1 . Now ... it's just a matter
of getting the right ' Price/deal ' before I buy it .

The same thing I did with the EVO , I got it off of Massdrop .
And yes , it came with a warranty from SM55 . Here's the link for the Sub V2 .
They need only 52 more ' Votes ' , before they can approach Enrico
with the offer .

Hi Everyone.

I just wanted to use my first ever post to say hi, and give some input regarding the sub.
Here is my "SUB-STATION"

(Sorry about using the links, I couldn't get the pictures to work directly in the post)

Ok, so I've been medicating with cannabis for 20 years...........habitually. Since Vaporizers have come out, I have used them. Right now I have 2 Volcanos, a Plenty, a daBuddah, 2 solos, an omicron, a thermovape, 2 cloud plus(faulty) and my sub.

The problem I've had since starting vaping is that I have found myself tied to the vaporizer, never quite getting medicated enough to go off for a while a get a few things done, Like I used to do prior to vaporising. I just think it is that prior to vaping I used to spin with tobacco even though I didn't smoke it, so it would give me a head rush and leave a bad taste in my mouth enough that I would want a small break between sessions.

Even with my faulty cloud pluses, which I though was the bomb when I got it, I would find myself sitting there time and time again when the timer went off, glued to my chair, not quite medicated satisfactorily.

When I watched every YouTube video Enricho posted I thought, now here's someone who smokes like I do, I need to try it. Let me tell you that this device has given me my life back. Someone who medicates as often as myself never gets stoned, actually barely feel the effects, but cannot bring themselves to have a tolerance break and that's just how I thought it was going to be. But this device once heated up, hits like nothing else, and actually gets an old old stoner like me medicated every time. Not giddy like a schoolboy like the old days but very nicely medicated. Someone without such a tolerance would find this device unbelievable, there really is no comparison. It took me about a month to even try a double decker, but for some reason when you combine the flowers with a dab, real magic happens, I pretty much only have double deckers now, just one or two each hour and I am constantly medicated.

I don't mind the timer, but would really appreciate if it remembered the last setting once the timer deactivates the unit. I planned on using the same setup I used with the cloud. I have a $20 Jackson wireless appliance controller, that can control up to 3 appliances, so I used to just have the remote in the loungeroom and switch the cloud on to warm up, then go downstairs when it had warmed up. But with sub when the power is reset the black dial must be pushed in again to remember last setting, and if the timer kicks in, then you have to reset the temp altogether.

Also because the temperature is so important it would be great to have a temperature readout. I have ordered a cheap infra red thermometer so i can gage what the perfect temperature is. Also whether it is quicker to turn the unit up higher than you intend to use it to warm it up, then gradually bring it back down as the unit heats up.

And just finally to be fair, as much as I love this product and really really want it to succeed, I do have a small question as to the ethics of the company, due to the fact that after purchasing my unit and glassware from Planetvape , who were great btw, I realised I probably should have ordered the safety shield. I looked at PVs site and they didn't have it, so I went to order it directly from sublimator but the shipping on the $45 item was $89, which didn't seem right because I've had a number of deliveries from Canada and knew there was a small item option. I contacted them to ask if the cart had calculated the shipping correctly, and after 7days and another few emails I received a reply saying that they could reduce the shipping by $50 to $39, and to let them know if I wanted to proceed, which I did but never heard back. In which time I checked PVs site again only to see they were now stocking them, and their shipping was $9.95. So I ordered from PV and let sublimator know, but they never responded. So as much as I love watching Enricho taking dabs from the slab, I really hope he outsources the customer support, as it is so important and is the easy part. He did the hard part by inventing the greatest thing I think I've ever seen.

I think you are assuming too much when you call this an ethical issue. PlanetVape does a lot more shipping than Sublimator and almost certainly has more (and cheaper) options. Also, the charge is for shipping and handling, which includes such things as time and shipping materials. I have no doubt that a company that specializes in shipping all over the globe has lower handling charges than a manufacturer.
