When you added water to your butter mix, it separated right out? I don't know what my problem is with making cannabutter, but I haven't had a successful run yet. I used the MB machine this time. I put in 1 1/2 oz. of good quality, decarbed trim, 1 lb. of butter, 1 T. lecithin and 2 cups of water. Processed it for 5 hours on 160. And ended up with 3 cups of a sort of whipped butter once I strained out the matter. Since there were only 2 c. of butter to start with, there is obviously some water in there. Not one drop separated out though.

I haven't tried it in anything yet. I did taste it and it tasted good. I'm just not sure wtf I did wrong. And I have to figure out how to use this in a recipe....

Don't chuck your water/butter... Shit, make icecubes if you don't know what to do with it yet, then drop those fuckers in pancakes, brownies, cookies etc.

Ok, so I heard back from them. That is the exact reason they dont recommend using water. Because the immersion blender is so baddass powerful that it essentially makes an emulsion. I.E. your butter will not separate easily, you will lose product in the water.

Cocoa butter solved this problem. But it still lost some oil in the water. That's why I rec pouring it though the bubble bag after refrigerating. Then lay out the sludge in a glass pan in front of a fan for a day to dry it out. AND - SOAK YOUR HANDS AND FEET IN THE REMAINING WATER - BOMB ASS MUSCLE RELAXER.

The batch I made was stronger then conceivable. It works. I had one friend, veteran stoner, ate 2 nibbles of the chocolate and he was unable to speak clearly. Literally fucking too strong for anyones good im gonna melt em down and dilute to normal levels. Also I ran it for 8 hours at 180, and to be honest its nauseatingly strong. I theorize its from the long slow cook, essentially decarboxolating the herb further. But my theory is also that quicker, lower temperature cooks are better medicine and more pleasant.

I think I have finally achieved my goal of understanding strength to the highest degree possible without any solvents. Now its time to focus on making it feel as good as possible.

I am curious if chocolate THIS strong has healing effects like RSO. I mean, I really cant imagine it feeling much stronger...

(recipe was 2 cups water, 1/2 cup cocoa butter, 14 grams herb, TBSP lecithin, ran 8 hours on 180)

As fun as this all is, so far my favorite high from edibles has come from the recipe on newcure.org. Just a couple tablespoons of glycerine and 1/2oz of herb in a jar cooked at 165 for 8 hours. Not as strong but hella pleasant. You eat the whole herb, everything. Just my 2 cents. I theorize that of course the 2 cups to a ounce/2 ounces will have a similar effect, though after that positive experience, I hate to remove the herb. I think ill do 1 ounce, 2 cups of glycerine, but not throw away the herb. Ill set it aside (in the fridge) with a few tablespoons of the finished glycerine and eat that similarly. Plus have the tincture.

My body tells me that's the real medicine, sans juicing, which is what this plant was fucking created for.

With your great understanding of cooking, could you advise on how I can use the butter I made? I'm thinking it can probably be used "as is" and just increase the amount used slightly in the recipe to compensate for the extra moisture in it......

checked out their website and the Magical Butter Maker 2 is what they are advertising. It's a $174.
Do u know whats the dif between MB original and MB2? 80 bucks sounds like a good deal probably no warranty also. I'm going back today to check it out.

I actually edited my post to answer that. Make icecubes. Drop them in recipes as needed.

Melting - Id get a new one. This thing is a finely tuned beast- I really don't know how they got the price so low, its like a chocolate tempurer mixed with a super blender for 165 bucks? I'm glad I have a warranty.

That being said, if you are low on cash and need to make some medicine, it's a decent price... But if you are paying 2-300 per Z for your medicine, saving 80 bucks is silly.

The MB2 decarbs while the og MB did not... but now I'm reading that they got the decarb function wrong on the MB2 and it has been dropped again from the current model? I'm a bit confused on this part myself.

I have the Magical Butter Maker 2 and it has the decarb function but I guess from what I hear it doesn't work. I decarbed mine when trying it out a few times. Mine wasn't strong enough. I'm building up my high quality ABV that's only been through my Solo once. Then I will retry with an experiment again for the purpose of science. I won't decarb the ABV.

Trying to gather experience through others now. I want to do it right next time. I'm not giving up.:hmm:

I have really enjoyed reading this thread but have to say that all 4 of my butters were made in crockpot after decarboxilation in oven and all were successful and potent inspite of me changing a few things each time. I am not sold on the MB so i think i will stick with crockpot method :) Thanks for all the info here!

after 60min of decarbing at 230', 2 x 4 hour cycles in the MB, my first impression is that its way too weak. 5 droppers gives me a slight high but nothing close to stoned.

This is a question...hope someone is around to answer. I just set up my Magical Butter and have all the ingredients inside it for an ETOH based tincture. I hit the temperture button and then the 160 button...but the one to the right of it (a higher temp) seems to be lit as well. Did I do something wrong? I have tried also hitting the temp button until it hits 160...but still get the light to the right of the 160 lit up. How do I set the temp correctly. It is Sunday and Magical Butter help line is closed.
Thanks!

@shortwind the lights on my MB2 are so bright it looks like the buttons to the right and left are also on, but the one in the center is a bit brighter... I doubt it's an issue with yours also

Hey All,

I'm working on my first VG tincture using the new MB2e machine. My end goal is some e-juice that I can use in my atomizer. I've already extracted using the following:

14g herbs
2 cups VG
a few drops of Everclear

I started by de-carbing the bud at 230 (my oven is kinda weird so I choose midpoint between 220 and 240 which seem to be the most common temps) for 50 mins. Then threw it all in the mb2e and put it on for 4 hours @ 160. It's not super strong since I used 1/2 an oz, about 5 full droppers gets you 'feeling' something, but doesn't last very long.

Was wondering if anyone had any advice about strengthening this mix or perhaps fixing my errors on the next go? Is it as stupidly simple as using this juice with more bud? I've read its best to make MBO using everclear, reduce, then make the VG with that. Was curious if anyone else has gone through it. I've read pages and pages of this thread but I haven't found a good nuts to bolts guide in making an ultimate e-juice.

In my bitter opinion, the only way in hell a veteran puffer like me is gonna feel the effects of a tincture using heat extraction, is to use about 4x more weed... Bright side, you can still drink it...

i reduced my 1.5 cups of solution to a small amount and tried ingesting 1.5cc of it. lets see how i feel in an hour. I hope it does the trick since although it was just shy of an ounce, it was a good amount of high quality medicine i started with.

xpidite, it seems we have the same problem but you with glycerin and I with alcohol, for both of us its not strong enough.

Thanks SasNW....I finally figured the light was just reflecting on the one next to it. I would probably design the buttons so it is a bit less confusing...and bigger buttons that are easier to hit! Here's my report on the experience:

On Sunday afternoon I decided I finally had enough herb on hand to try making an ETOH-based tincture in my new Magical Butter cooking device (it looks like an industrial strength blender with psychedelic lighting features). I decided to try the 8 hour cycle for tincture. In my eagerness to try out my new toy, I should've noted that the entire project would take me to after midnight and I had an early a.m. appointment the next day. The next time, I will start the process much, much earlier in the day. There is a 4 hour tincture cycle, but I wanted as much potency as I could get.

I used a generic brand of Everclear I got at the local liquor store...190 proof! I did misread the instructions, and put half as much ETOH in the mix as needed. Fortunately, I corrected this after 4 hours and added the missing amount. I did not do the total 8 hours, I did about 7 as I needed to get some sleep. I did a decarb in the oven first.

The machine whirred and blended and did its thing. When it was done (and by now it was after 12 30 a.m.) I strained the stuff using the filter. I ended up with two decent cups of dark green liquid.I also ran the wash cycle on the machine and it also worked well...making the clean-up less of a chore. I stored the liquid temporarily in a jar and Monday I poured the mixture into several tinted tincture bottles. I tried it yesterday and it was nicely potent. I have chronic insomnia and am taking medications that worsen insomnia. I slept quite well on this new tincture! I would consider the project a success.....but will now make it earlier in the day! I hope to next make a coconut butter, but I have a bit on hand now that I made prior to obtaining the Magical Butter. But so far, happy with the machine.

my first batch was 1.5 oz of bud to 2 cups of coconut oil. too weak. next was 2 1/4 oz per 2 cups. too weak. then i did 3 oz per 2 cups. 4 capsules of this and shazam, i'm a believer!

i was vaping 1.5 grams a day so a lighter user would do fine with less.

3 oz is a lot of product for some of us. A very expensive project. For me it would be cheaper to buy at the dispensaries any edibles or tincture. I have been saving ABV for my next Mag Butter Maker coconut oil venture.

I wish that we could use half herb and of the oil. We need to fill it up to the line. I wish they would come up with a mini version or a machine that used less. I would much rather make small more potent batches.

I just tried the new MB2E and I have very mixed feelings. I tried an alcohol tincture; 3 cups of EC and 1 oz of bud. The immersion blender is so powerful that it pulverized the bud, and even though I was nowhere near the max line, alcohol and pulverized bud were sloshing out of the top. So, I reduced down to the min line, and still got overflow. I ended up doing about 2 hours before I realized that I had a big mess with the overflow, and then a 4 hour cycle, then let sit overnight. When I tried the result, I was not impressed with potency. I didn't decarb beforehand, despite the warning. Dummy me. So I plan to do the water bath evaporation to reduce the amount of liquid. Not a lot of time or energy or stress saved with this, and a big mess.

After seeing the sludge left in the alcohol, I am concerned about trying to strain butter or glycerin through the filter easily.

I tried 1.5cc of my reduced solution and it was really not strong enough. I don't get it, 24g of high grade plant matter should be enough to be somewhat potent.

60mins of decarb, a 4 hour tincture cycle, let sit for 12 hours, another 4 hour tincture cycle, reduced to a watery oil, 1.5cc of that is still not strong enough to give me a good buzz. It doesn't make sense.

anyone have any ideas as to why it might not be as potent as it should? I thought eating activated plant matter was a more efficient way of getting high than vaping. what gives?

mistressbearcat, I too just tried my mb2e with an alcohol tincture, it didn't spill at all but I'm not happy with the potency of my resulting product.

It looks like we need 3 oz of bud to get our recipes strong enough. I don't have access to really cheap product. Maybe I can ask around to see if I can find some trim to use.

Don't you also need an emulsifier like lecithin?

It doesn't make sense since 0.7 grams ingested should produce a stronger effect than 0.7 grams vaped. If I activated all the psycho good stuff when I decarbed and did a full extraction with the MB2e, why am I not getting stoned.

grokit, to the best of my very limited knowledge, lecithin is only used when fat (coconut oil, glycerin, butter) is the extraction catalyst, not alcohol.
