Team NO SLEEP!
We ought to post a few more, but Snuggles aka KILLER is doing fucking great.

She never did go for the traditional kongs and will not go for peanut butter, but she is a different dog since we started getting her puzzles. Her favorite is a food tray that looks like a maze, I will post up some links later.

The Largest kong with the weighted bottom and one hole in the side, the one you put whole meals into, was also a big hit... she was finishing food in less than 3 mins before, now it takes her over 30-40 mins just to get it all. She gets worked out from it too.

Thanks for the advice, folks.

Cyrus does have plenty to chew on (bones, rope, nylabones) but I was out of the apartment longer than usual yesterday (voted on the way home, that and traffic added two hours to how long I was out). I will be crating him again for the foreseeable future, and luckily he generally likes his crate. But when I try him out of the crate again, I will attempt to give him more complicated things to play with to hopefully better abate the boredom. I already have a dog walker come every day I'm not here, so other than crating and more toys, not sure I can do much.

I'm sure it doesn't help that he is not really used to me being gone. Due to my health, I only go into my office about twice a week. The rest of the time I work from home. So he is still not really used to me not being around.

Another issue is his jaws - with the exception of a nylabone Galileo, which he gets bored with, he has been able to destroy every toy I have given him. Kongs last maybe a day, most nylabones about two weeks, a rope bone maybe a week. I've tried some 'puzzle' toys too, but he just rips them to pieces.

Can anyone recommend a truly indestructible chew toy? Does such a thing actually exist?
It is important to NOT make a big emotional production when you leave the house or upon return. Doing so only exacerbates the emotional frenzy and habit. Child-proof the house/room as best you can. A fenced backyard with room to roam and run is always a plus, as are regular walks with the leash. A furry companion will help to quell anxieties - just be sure they are compatible so as not to EVER become hostile towards one another. It is best to NEVER put a feeding dish where more than one dog can get at it at a time - while they might love each other 99% of the time, instinct can come into play over a morsel or a meal which can result in very serious injury. Countless cats have been seriously injured or killed while nosing around a food dish (even if it was the cat's food dish).

Hie thee to thy local abattoir and procure for thine purpose the thighbone of an ox.

*Check a butcher for cow leg bones & knuckles. Raw bone is excellent for this purpose. Never offer cooked bone.

Oh, you might find a local natural pet foods place that carries the big knuckles, etc. Pig's ears can be fun, too.

@arf777 the chewing is an age thing. My dog also destroyed every dog toy known. He took to chewing on rocks and that was a serious hazard. For him, just changing his food (and time) was the answer. He had been eating the smaller nuggets for his size dog. I changed it up to the large nuggets and his sensory need for chewing seemed better.

Enchantre's idea is a good one. A good bone will do wonders. Stop investing in those dog toys.... there isn't a toy made that a dog can't destroy. Other than that? Crating and patience my dear....

I have a red Kong bone my pup hasn't destroyed yet. Little bits of treats and peanut butter keeps him busy for a bit! And reindeer antlers too I think they are, those are good too.
