I blame the campaign. With polls at 80% it was easy to think money didn't need to be spent. For the last two months I have been asking my wife why we aren't seeing anything but attack ads against it...and they worked. I didn't see one ad for the amendment until two days before the election.

58% is pretty good. Don't give up!! That 60%majority to pass a referendum is bullshit. You guys need to get that changed there in Florida if possible. Fuck You! Jeb Bush, Oh wrong thread!!!! That damn Bush family, fucking everything up.

There are some people connected to the No on 2 vote that must have a vested interest in keeping things as they are.huge money spent on the no campaign.

Wishing strength and resolve to florida coming back again with a stronger campaign and freeing Florida in round 2
Thank You :peace:

Utterly crushing defeat in Florida. @stickstones, has it exactly right. The campaign just sat here while the opposition lied, lied, lied. There was no fighting back from our side. Yes On 2 allowed the opposition to say all these lies, with little retailiation.
We needed a smashmouth response, and came up with nothing. We should of been more engaging in the community(phone calls are great, but we needed to get out and talk to the voters in person more); highlighted the donations from the out-of-town anti-christ, Sheldon Adelson screwing with OUR local politics; fought back more against the Florida Sheriffs Association; Used all the studies out there and UCR stats to REFUTE the oppositions claims about how horrible things are in states where mmj is legal or recreational.

Nothing, for a few weeks, seemed to be our response to their attack. For whatever reason, our campaign leaders seemed content to think the voters would see through the oppositions lies. Not on a topic like mmj. Every blow they struck we needed to counter-strike, we didn't, we lost.

58% to me, just shows how the campaign lost 30% support from our earlier polls(some were even higher).
90%, 87%, 82%, 88%, were just some of our numbers late summer.

FWIW, I put my heart, soul, blood, tears, a lot of time and some money into this campaign, along with some very great volunteers, who were equally or more passionate than I. Our county(Pinellas), that we were "responsible" for, voted 233,000+ "Yes" to only 116,000 "No" votes. THAT is why I felt the campaign was still going to be able to "right" the ship. The feedback we were getting was so positive, but it did not represent enough of Florida.

I am truly so sorry if I gave any of you false hope. My optimism was solely based on what I was seeing and the feedback we were getting from the people. When the polls started showing less than desireable trends, I truly thought it was just the media trying to disuade folks from coming out to vote, I didn't realize that my county could be so positive, yet some others, quite the very opposite.

I feel the weight of the patients' on my shoulders now so more than at any time during our campaign. I am truly sorry for all of you that we didn't get it done and will carry this burden for some time to come.

If anybody here is looking for a nice 4-bdrm home in Florida, I think I can help you out.

That's almost what happened in alaska, we were losing and they were lying etc. Then the republicans came in and endorsed it which really saved the day; it sure had nothing to do with the mpp/dpa's efforts.

I always was taught the best way to deal with a "bully" was to bust them in the mouth.
Taking and missing that shot would feel less shitty than sitting here now does, and realizing no one took a shot at all.

Kids let this be a lesson. Act when you can, so you don't sit around later and wonder what if.

Silver - THANK YOU SO MUCH for what you did for us Floridians. Please don't allow this to bring you down too much. We still need you for the next shot at it. It's not my place to say I'm proud of you but I am because you put way more into this than I and I have a feeling that once you dust yourself off you'll be back at it with just as much drive...and probably more. It's people like me who didn't involve ourselves to the extent you did that need to do more next time.

I don't disagree that this was a defeat snatched from the jaws of victory and I believe you're correct that more rebuttal would have won the day. I'm not one of those 'glass is half full or half empty' types...I'm a 'there's liquid in the glass' type and know there was a HUGE victory in the 58% result. We now know that the majority believes in the cause and that means the believers are not the stereotype the detractors would have you believe are behind legalization in FL.

One thing is for sure....the politicians have taken note. 58% is well above what they need to win an election so they know which side their bread is buttered on.

The next attempt will succeed....and it will be because of what you did during this attempt. Thanks again for all you did.

It's not legal in dc until our new national republican legislature approves what the voters passed; wa dc is uniquely subject to this type of oversight. They're not a commonwealth or a territory (like guam, who also passed mmj legislation) or a state, they're some kind of liability-escaping sovereign nation within a nation.

Couldn't they reject the measure?

Don't Worry, Florida, Medical Marijuana Will Be Back in Two Years and Will Probably Pass

By William Breathes in Legalize It, Medical, News

TokeoftheTown-Florida-thumb-500x500.jpg

Florida voters overwhelmingly approved of medical marijuana (58% to about 42%) but lost because they needed to get 60%. And yet the Anti-Amedment 2 people claim a victory when they clearly don't have the majority opinion on their side.

Amendment 2 may have missed narrowly missed the 60 percent voter threshold needed to pass a constitutional amendment, but main sponsor John Morgan has already announced he'll place another medical marijuana amendment on the ballot in 2016. This time, there's an even better chance it will pass.

For those local to the area, looks like someone had their friend create a FB event (since the organizer doesn't have A FB acct.) to advertise a meet-up to decide where the FLA 58% go from here. It appears to be a non-partisan, non-United for Care affiliated event, where anyone willing to work towards the cause is most welcome.

I wish I could tell you more, but it's not like I put this together.

Florida is going to be a hard nut to crack with all the money being made off opiates by big pharma.
